Easy Rain Barrels

“I made my own rain barrel using a 30-gallon Rubbermaid garbage can. I simply diverted a downspout on my house into an opening cut in the lid of the can, making sure I attached a nylon stocking to the end of the downspout to catch bugs and keep stray leaves out. You must have a screen or nylon sock set up to keep mosquitoes from laying eggs in the water. The nice thing about the Rubbermaid cans is that they are so dang easy to clean twice a year, and they last for years—even in summer heat and winter cold. With a male/female hose hook-up at the bottom, you can attach multiple cans so that when it rains, they all fill up.”
