Dear MaryJane...

February, 2011

Dear MaryJane ...

I absolutely love your magazine. It’s laid out beautifully, like a vintage scrapbook. It’s the only magazine that I don’t dissect. That would be like ripping up a book. Thank you!

Sincerely, Justine

My favorite MaryJanesFarm magazine has always been the one you did on working hands. It had the most beautiful pictures in it, and it is what brought me to the world of all things MaryJane. This last issue (Oct/Nov 2010, “Attitude of Gratitude”), though, is just a great edition. There are so many stories and crafts and ideas in it. I have read through it three times and can’t get enough—I have marked several pages to go back and revisit. I have been buying each issue independently because I want it to continue to be carried in our local store, but this last issue has made me rethink the whole subscription idea—then I won’t have to worry about missing one of the magazines. To all who are working on the magazine, thanks so much for a great job. It is wonderful!

Vintage, never-been-worn apron from Oklahoma City...I had to laugh when I saw your recent magazine cover (Oct/Nov 2010) with the words “If you think aprons are fun, try chaps.” My Aunt Dores recently sent me this vintage, never-been-worn apron from Oklahoma City. We could jazz up the pattern and have some cowgirl fun! Just had to share.

Well, I made my first pumpkin pie totally from scratch today, following MaryJane’s recipe in the Oct/Nov 2010 issue right down to the whipped cream. I feel ashamed to admit (at 51) that I have never baked a pumpkin before or made roasted pumpkin seeds, but I did both today. (I have made what I considered “homemade” pumpkin pie in the past using plain canned pumpkin instead of pumpkin pie mix. LOL!!) I gotta admit, it was more work than I thought it would be, but WOW, what an awesome pie!! DH tasted it before me—I always serve him first, just in case (LOL!!)—and he said, “Oh wow, this is sooo much better!” He was RIGHT! To anyone who has never gone to all the trouble, I highly recommend it—you will not believe how much better it is!!

Nini and hubby in their wedding truckAfter seeing photos of your “parade” farm truck on your chatroom, I really wanted you to see pics of our truck on our wedding day. We’ve been married 22 years, and my, how things change! We sorely miss the old ’49—we have such great memories of it. When we moved from Rhode Island to Pennsylvania, my husband gave it to a friend at work because the man had a huge farm with six kids and was in need of a work truck. Don’t you know the man parked it in his field, and to this day, it is rotten with rust and covered over with weeds. Waahhh!
