February 2004
Hi Cindylou,
It was so fun to get to talk on the phone. I was very surprised! I just wanted to update you on our progress:
Rodney and I spent Saturday in bee keeping school over in Silverdale at Al Steadman Bee Supply. We really enjoyed ourselves and are more convinced than ever that this is something we want to do. We met several local organic farmers that are getting into bee keeping to augment the pollination of farm produce. We have made some new and interesting friends.
My knee is healing well and I am now pretty much pain free on the knee that I had replaced. Only time and activity will tell when I'll have to schedule to have the other one done. I was afraid I would not be able to return to gardening after the surgery but have found out that, with some changes in how I proceed, I can do most things that I did before and can get help with the things that I am not allowed to do anymore. So, this past week I planted 3 trees along my driveway that I purchased in the fall before my surgery. I am so excited! I was able to clean up two of my garden beds and prepare one small raised bed for early peas. Wahoo! I also was able to prune my espaliered Apple tree. Still need to do my berries but will get to them soon.
I still need to get help with stringing out the chicken wire for the enclosure to the chicken coup and I will need help building the tractor part of the process, but am confident it will be done in the next two weeks. Meantime, I am busy getting the outside of the beehives painted and readied for the arrival of the bees in April.
Enjoy your day!!
