Our meeting was postponed until tomorrow (I think when the workers planned it they forgot that today is Election Day, and the county offices were closed). So tomorrow is the big day! We've finished our photo album, we've got our list of questions...I feel ready!

UPDATE: Our conference with "our daughter's" support team went excellently well! We are a good fit for her, and she is a good fit with us...and we FINALLY get to meet her in person two weeks from today! I can't wait! It's finally happening! We have a long way to go before she is "ours," but this is a huge step forward. Now comes a long series of supervised visits, day visits, and overnighters before she moves in to our home, but she has been moved from "available" to "matched!" Thanks so much for all your prayers, well-wishes, and happy thoughts...they really made a difference!

Jessie, I am so happy for all of you! 9 yrs. is a wonderful age. She is still so young and will enjoy so many different things all of you will experience as a family. I hope that this continues to be a perfect fit for all of you. Enjoy all the steps toward being a family. What a happy holiday season it will be for all of you getting to really know each other. God bless all of you honey. I am so happy for you.

How exciting JessieMae!!! I'm so happy for you! May you have favor through the whole process. Are you going to be able to have a family Christmas with her?

No new news. We are scheduled to meet her with her social worker on Wednesday at a local park. We have to come up with a game and maybe a craft for us all to do together. I was thinking scavenger hunt for the game (if we break into teams, my husband can be with her for one round, and I can be with her for the other), and glass painting for the craft. If you all have any ideas, they'd be greatly appreciated! Siobhan, we don't know if we'll get her on Christmas but we surely hope we do! With all of this happening so close to the holidays, it's all kind of dependent on her...how quickly she bonds with us, how confident she feels about spending time away from her family, etc.

Jessie, I agree. I think the activities you've chosen will be fun ones to do. Wish I could give you a hug in person! I'll be thinking of you all on Wednesday.

Jessie, even though I haven't been posting, I have followed your thread. Sometimes miracles can really take a long time, but that doesn't make them any less of a miracle. I remember the days before children and the emptyness when you know you should be loving and caring for a child or more than one. She is MATCHED! There are tears of joy in my eyes for you. God bless you and the love you will share. Susan

UPDATE: Well, we met our little girl! She's quite a firecracker. She's a sweet little thing, but we can see she's going to be a challenge. She kept burping really loud, she kicked my husband in the shin (not hard, but still!), and she ran away from us and climbed over the railing to a bridge over a river at the park we were visiting. But my heart just breaks for her...she was so dirty, her hair hung into her eyes, her clothes were dirty and too small, the zipper on her coat was broken, and her teeth are brown and decaying. And she had never heard of things we took for granted she would know: for example, she didn't know who Mickey Mouse was and had never heard of Disney World, she had never been to a zoo, and when I asked her if she was excited about Christmas, she said, "No, I never get anything." But she seems very eager to attach to us...she wanted to hold hands and tickle us with a leaf, she called me "mom" (but which may not be such a big thing, as she also referred to her aunt, biological mom, and social worker as "mom" and her aunt's ex-husband as "dad"), and when we were leaving the park she said, "Maybe next time we can meet at your house." Anyway, hopefully we'll see her again the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Jessie, I was once horrified to find out how many kids are adopted and then the adults change their mind. It sounds like, for you, it will be a "forever" type of choice. She needs your love, care and rules and you can do it. Know if may not be an easy road at first. It will take time and possibly, at times, all the patience you can muster. But know that our prayers are with you. You need EACH OTHER! It's not just her needing you. God bless you all! Susan

Susan, I know exactly what you mean. Our daughter had been matched with another family in August, but they changed their mind. The reason? On the third supervised visit, our girl slapped the man on the arm, and when they bought her a water instead of the pop she asked for, she dumped it out on the ground. Annoying, yes...but hardly enough to terminate an adoption!
