The Shop on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber. I just discovered her books this past week. This series is about a lady who opened a yarn shop in Seattle. Each book in the series has a different knitting pattern in it. I've read half of the first book already tonight.

Those are such good ones Kay. There is one called Susannah's garden too, that isn't about the yarn shop, but about the gal that eventually opens the flower shop on the block. It is background about her. It is a good one too. I read it recently..after reading the yarn shop ones a couple years ago.

I need to look for that one Christy. I keep meaning to find it. I just got "Down to the Bone" by Karen Harper. It is a mystery set in Amish country. I have liked her other books I have read. More intense than I read alot, but good. I have a couple other books coming from paperback exchange that I am anxious to read too. Have any of you read the new Elm Creek quilt book yet?(Winding Ways Quilt) I havn't let myself buy it new yet..and it is too new to find used...ugh. Next money I get I will no doubt have to be the owner of it. I have loved all those books!

It seems my reading the last few years have either been for kiddos disorders or homeschooling.
We are studying the 1800's..my favorite. So everything pioneer like Little House, Mtn Man era etc has been our family reading.
I recently decided I could not take anymore serious reading and bought every craft, decorating, and all the back issues of MJ's and stare at the pictures. My husband was concerned :)
I am reading (when I am not looking at picture books)Joyful Homeschooler by Mary Hood, excellent and encouraging. Almost finished with Family Driven Faith by Voddie Baucham.
I do not read fiction or watch TV. But I like movies and that is relaxing to me. I love Jane Austin anything...
I am dangerous in a bookstore...

Has anyone read THE GIFT by Richard Paul Evans? He is a wonderful writer from Utah and usually has a new book each Christmas. He is a quick read and once you are hooked, the reading goes on to the end. I think everyone would enjoy his books. |

I'm reading American Primitive, poems by Mary Oliver (my favorite poet; I have several of her books). Also a book that is making my heart sing called The Age of Miracles: Embracing The New Midlife by Marianne Williamson. It would be for farmgirls "of a certain age" ... mother hens. I find it uplifting and inspiring, filled with insightful thoughts about how being part of the baby boom generation specifically, informs our experience of midlife.
Betty mentioned the books by Richard Paul Evans. I believe I've read his first two and thoroughly enjoyed the one that was made into a movie with Richard Thomas and Maureen O'Hara.
So many books sitting in little stacks in different rooms of the house, waiting patiently for me to get around to reading or finishing them. My quiet house guests ... ![](icons/icon_smile.gif)

Richard Paul Evan's I believe his 1st book is the "Christmas Box". With the proceeds, do not remember the whole correct story, he built a shelter that is the intake and some long term housing for children coming in to the foster care system. It is a wonderful place for kids going through a rough time.
When the children 1st walk in there is a huge Christmas Tree. It is decorated with toys, socks or what ever for the month. They receive a handmade tie quilt and stuff animal. They are then bought in for intake and given clothes, and more toys. It is a beautiful center and the staff along with the volunteers are wonderful.
When the children arrive at a "shelter home", they have tons of goods! The shelter center also has a school, medical and dental facilities. There other things The Christmas Box House provides too.

Laura, I can see you have read The Christmas Box. Have you also read his other books? I have read The Locket, The Last Promise and several other of his books that I have stored away. I didn't like The Last Promise as well as the rest of his books. Seems he deviated from his usual writing. The rest are wonderful and I especially liked The Gift. I read that one in one day. Betty |

Betty, I have only read "The Christmas Box" because of the history of the shelter here in SLC. Being a frequent visitor to the shelter, I felt I needed to read it.
I read it to my kiddos one Christmas also. It is a delightful book!

I'm one of those people who has a book open face down in EVERY room of the house! I am curretnly reading "The Dogs of Bedlam Farm" by Jon Katz, about his adventures with his cazy Border collies and how they made him face the realities of HIMSELF as a person, and how he needed to change.
I also have been reading Billy Graham's book "The Holy Spirit- Here is the power to change your life" and books on Midievil life and Famous Women of the middle ages. Not to mention that I just bought MJF's latest magazine and have already read it from cover to cover and I'm about ready to read it AGAIN!!!
OH! And a dear friend of mine works with movie studios and such, and is letting me read some of the latest movie scripts!!!! VERY exciting!!! (both have since been released, so no secrets to reveal-- SORRY!!) Gee... that's a lot of reading. Wherever do I find the TIME?!!! (that's probably why it takes me SO LONG to read one single book!) ~~~ Tracy |

I'm reading MaryJanesFarm magazine. I'm a slow reader and subscriber to many magazines. I read most of my quilting magazines from cover to cover, amazed at what these quilters accomplish. I have to start over with the Harry Potter series and read them again because I'm not sure where I left off. That should keep me busy for a while. |

Pride and Prejudice. I was on an Austen kick before it got warmer and Spring time always puts me in mind of England.

I just read Lavinia, the new book by Ursula K. Le Guin. I think if you liked The Red Tent, you would like it. And if you wanted to like The Red Tent but didn't, like me, you'll probably like this one better.
Lavinia is a character in the classic poem the Aeneiad (sp?). Her descendants found the Roman Empire. She doesn't get a big part in Virgil's poem, and this is supposed to be her untold story. |

I have just started At Home in Mitford by Jan Karon. Anyone else read this series? Also, I have noticed a lot of people have read Debbie Macomber books...the Shop on Blossom Street series. It is great. The latest just came out and i am waiting to check it out at the library. Her Cedar Cove series is wonderful as well. There are seven in the series, and the eighth comes out this fall. I can hardly wait.
