you are a die hard treadler aren't you ? A doorstop....fun.
They wrote back and said it's still available but it is actually quite a bit further away then I thought. Oh well, just keeping my eyes open and my ears in tune for the hum of the treadles out there.

Oh I see, so she started all this treadlin did she? i wish I had that separate room for sewing. I am trying to figure out a way to rethink this addition we are finishing up. Maybe once our it is done and the family room is finished I can squeeze the furniture from the living room in there and expand my space for sewing. Definitely need some shelves for holding fabric!

I hope you can figure something out Denise, maybe just enough room for a sewing machine a dresser and shelves over the dresser. You could use the dresser top for cutting out and so on. Or a sewing machine and a hutch kind of thing. Must be a corner someplace for you. I hope. NANCY JO

Bonne, that's exactly what I do to my husband. He has no space inside except what little his recliner takes up. LOL. Poor men.

LOL. though my husband rarely says no I think if I suggested putting one more thing in that garage........
Right now I have a singer 99 in it's own cabinet, the treadle and an old hoosier cupboard that is holding my stuff. Oops almost forgot there is the portable and a serger too. Gosh you'd think I would do nothing but sew. I have this little three drawer plastic roll around thing but I hope to get something else to put fabric in so I will not use that once I do. I have an extra dresser so maybe I can claim that for fabric. I also have an antique buffet that we were trying to get rid of, maybe that is a possibility too. Use it for storing boards games right now. Might be able to sneak back possession. of that. Just think if I get a bigger room maybe I can get another.................whisper, whisper, treadle.

Hello everyone, I am sooooooo excited. I just brought my very own treadle sewing machine home!!! I have been reading this thread and all your other stuff. Thank you soooo much Bonne for the extremely helpful links. I have a Model 27 Singer. We are all excited (including my very handy 13 yr old son) My mom (who lives w/me) said my grandma had the same exact machine when she was a kid. I hope I can figure out how to post some pictures for you. Thanks again for the helpful hints! :-)
Treadle on!!! cheryl |

Thank you! Levisgrammy, I know what you mean... I have to go to work now and I probably won't get to really "play" until Friday. My son is fascinated and he just keeps sitting there and playing and I keep saying "please don't break it!!!" lol @ myself. Well, I'm off to work. You ladies have a great night and thanks for listening. |

Oh Cheryl, how very very exciting. yeahhhh and how sweet that it is just like the one your Grandma had, doesn't that make it even sweeter. Denise, claim part of that family room as yours. Take the stuff you have in the living room and claim a wall to be all yours in the family room. You are one very creative lady, use the antique buffet, great storage space and looks good besides. You go girl.... Carol Sue

You were right Bonne. I am looking at what I think is a motorized treadle at the same place that had the one I wanted......for a buy it now price of $9.00. I had to look twice to make sure I saw it right. I should drive across the river and check this one out I think. If nothing else I can always use a good end table.
Blessings.... Sarah

Thanks Georgann... Congratulations to you! How exciting is that? I am happy that today is Friday. I can't wait to clean it up and get it running this weekend. I have been reading how to clean it from the post that Bonne put up (thesewingmachinestop). Very helpful and interesting. I like the way he has other people tell what worked for them too. I have been looking at the beautiful aprons on the 2nd apron thread...wow! Can't wait to get sewing too. Well I hope you don't have to wait too long to get your new machine. Is it in route now? How long is the trip? Sarah how is that dress coming? Are you sewing it on a treadle too? or do you have multiple machines? Have a GREAT day! cheryl |

I haven't started on the dress yet, haven't even received the pattern yet. I need to pay my ebay bills but I had a major faux pau (sp??) with my bank account and am trying to straighten it out. I know today was payday!! sheesh, I can never get ahead for trying it seems. Hopefully soon...

cool... looks interesting. I would love to know how that goes. I should have worked on mine today, but I am totally intimidated...don't want to break anything. Bonne, have you done much cleaning and restoring? You seem like a hands on woman to me... I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty... just don't want to do the wrong thing. any advice??? |

Bonne, Finally downloaded the manual for my machine. I have been busy here and I still have not sat down to my treadle. I'm half intimidated by the thing. Well, it will soon be in its own spot and then I can sit down to it and see what it's all about. Thanks for the links.

before you do all of that though...do yourself a favor and take the machine out of the cabinet...some of the stuff you need to use can really do an number on the wood! |
