Thanks for all the links girls. I posted pics on my blog....finally. I am SUCH a procrastinator. About all I get to read anymore is the apron thread and this one.
Carol Sue, which apron patterns are you talking about? Maybe I can slip some copies in with this fabric I'm sending.

OH Bonne..there is a machine in Minnesota that someone has listed for a ridiculously low buy it now...it I believe is one I have seen go for more than $500 in what looks like very similar condition. I do not have the link, look on "treadle" on ebay...should be page one...fiddlebase. It is ot listed as fiddlebase, though. |

oh that one looks in better shape than mine. I love it! I just saw one in a cabinet like that last night at a friend's house. It has a round bobbin though and has red on the decals but the cabinet is the same and in beautiful condition. The guy who owns it, it was his mother's and he learned to sew on it when he was a kid, said he couldn't believe I got mine so cheap. Said I probably could get that much for the shuttle. Hah, it's not for sale but I was glad to hear it. Going to get some stuff to clean it up with this weekend. I can't believe how much my husband and son are enjoying it. My son oiled it all up. You'd think they were going to use it.

There's a Singer puzzlebox of accessories on, too. I think it's a new listing -- called a wooden box of accessories.
Love your new treadle, Denise, and that the guys are digging it too. Nothing like a machine to get their interest!

Jess, I found the fiddlebase machine. Now if I could just get someone there to actually BUY one! ARGGGHH!!! I've found that to be true about family though. If you want something you have to just go out and get it yourself. Both my sister and Aunt asked me, "where are you putting these machines?" (they've seen my little house~lol) Come 'on now, where there's a will there's a way! Besides, treadles are always used for end tables, side tables, what have you. My hubby just winds up with less space~ROFL He's wonderful about making shelves~in small homes , it's all about making use of available space, and our walls have plenty stored on them. Hubby is such an enabler~he was all anxious to drive to Minnesota just to pick up a treadle. I'm like, "drive 1000 miles one way to get a treadle? doesn't the cost of gas kind of negate the steal the machine is?" Gotta be smart like Jess, and plan out the treadle purchases, like if someone is going to be in the area soon and can pick it up for you etc. Besides, there are so many here I could snag. It's just that I'm trying to get my sister to get one, as she was looking 2 yrs ago and never found one she wanted. She did find and buy a featherweight though, so there IS hope for her.........LOL

Have you cked Craigs List for your area? enter in "sewing machine" to the search, as they don't always know what to call them. Also, antique stores or antique malls are good places to look as you can check them out in person right off. Most of the sellers don't really know if they work or not, "well, the wheel moves...." so you'll want to give them a quick going over to make sure the major parts are there. (bobbin case!)

I did check craigs list and ebay. The one I found for $100 was in great shape and only about 20 miles away from me. But my washing machine gave out and I couldn't see spending money on just a want at the moment. *sigh*

Sarah, just keep watching ~ You never know when people will post. Lots of the garage sale listing may have "sewing machine" in the listing too, so just keep your search words broad, (like I said, look for "sewing machine" and not specifically treadle) If you're close to a state border, ck those states too. (learned that from Jess~LOL the "Treadler Enabler Extraordinaire") Also, your $100 find may not sell. The pick-up ones are tougher sells, unless they are something rare, so it or something similar may hang around a while~maybe long enough for you to save up some dough.

Yes, when I got mine I was able to put in a distance so that I could see everything within a certain range of miles from me. I found one on craigslist for 5 bucks but I am not familiar with the name of the place. It's suppose to be in my area of the state. I'll have to go on mapquest. It was listed in August so I may email to see if it's still available as I did not see a posting where it was taken. Maybe they don't post once it's taken?

Denise, my first treadle was listed on Craig's list 3 different times (price kept going lower) and the latest listing was actually a few weeks old, so I just emailed and asked if it was available. (and it was!!!!)They are supposed to expire in 45 days, so if the lister doesn't remove them they stay up for 45 days. I think some people forget to remove them if they close a deal, but yours may just still be available!! EMAIL THEM!! LOL

Well.............
News about my treadle!!! Yes, you heard me right, my treadle!!! My sister still has it, but I got her to read me the model number on the phone today and guess what????!!!! It is a 1916 to 1918 Singer Red Eye, in near perfect condition!!!! Not one bit of rust on it, and my sis says that the gold leaf is shiny and beautiful and it comes with all kinds of goodies in the six drawers!! I think she is going to ship it to me in December. I told her I'd be glad to pay for the shipping!! I'm so excited. I lost a bid on a pretty beat up one on Ebay, but that is ok. The guy I work with is going to let me have one of his many treadles too. He is going to take a photo of all of them and let me pick which ever one I want!! Woo Hoo....finally treadling along...well, almost!
Oh, and Bonne.....loved the moose in the photo you emailed to me and thanks for the ebay treadle reminder...lost it, but it was in really rough shape.

Bonne, thanks for the website. Appreciate being able to get one because the one I have is very brittle. I'm going to check on that treadle.

Bonne, Check this out and tell me what you think. Do you think it's a treadle. It says there is no plug and they don't see a place for one. I emailed. This is the one I mentioned earlier.

I think it would be fairly easy to find a base if the machine was a normal size. Haven't heard anything back from them. I still have not had a chance to play with the one I just got. Things are bit hectic here, construction going on. Unfortunatley the construction does not include a sewing room. My daughter did suggest using the small room that has been built off of the kitchen for a sewing room but it is a big walk in pantry. Need that more right now, very small kitchen. Maybe when one of the two kiddos still at home gets married I'll take over one of those rooms. ;)
