Bonne thanks so much for the tips and links. Huge help. Can't wait to get started. How did it go with Craig's list? Are you getting a new machine?
How are you doing Denise? Are you pumped up to start on your treadle too?
Have a GREAT day. cw |

Cheryl, Well I am ready to start getting to know my machine. Except it seems there is always something else that I have to do first and so I haven't had the chance to sit down to it yet. I did download a manual for it. The original one is quite brittle so I won't be using it. I still need to do a little cleaning but other than that I think I am ready to try when I get the time. Does anyone know about the thread you can use? I was using my 99k and found that if I used cheap thread it messed up the tension on it. No matter what we did or how we adjusted it it just would not straighten out. Then I got the idea to change the thread and it works fine. Is that odd?

The machine I cked out was pretty worn. It probably would sew, but would take a lot of cleaning up. It was a "Sphinx" , but the decals were so worn you could barely make that out. Too much weathering to the metal parts, (aka rust), to make me feel comfortable. I just found this one listed, another Sphinx, and I'm wondering how I can scrape up $150~especially since the auto ins. is due...........LOL http://denver.craigslist.org/for/436180173.html Isn't it beautiful?!
I tested out my machines, after cleaning them, with premium thread, just to eliminate the possible issue that the cheaper may cause an issue.

I'm going to look at a possible #5 treadle today~LOL It's listed at $55 "with Egyptian decals" ~no pic, but it's close by, so worth taking a look. I'll be opening an Antique Treadle Museum here soon. ROFL I haven't even spent $200 in all! The treadles are just crawling out of the woodwork!!

I started out by hand-sanding, but hubby called and when I told him what I was doing, he suggested the orbital sander and told me where it was in the garage (his domain). Didn't take long at all. I only did the top portion , not the drawers, as they were in good shape, just so much varnish build up and scrapes on the top. It's so nice and smooth now. I'd made these beeswax , shea butter and vegetable oil "lotion bars" for hands, and they worked fab on the wood! LOL Rubbed them on after the cabinet had been warming up outside after sanding and they just melted right in.

Bonne, What a gorgeous machine. You did a great job. FINALLY got our co for our addition so now I am working on getting this house in order. It's taking me a while as I am decluttering along the way. If it doesn't have a spot out it goes. Of course, that does NOT apply to anything of a sewing nature. ;)

Carol Sue, Did I tell you Jess and I sent our pkg. out to you? It went priority yesterday I think. I sent the full apron pattern and the material will send along the other half ones as soon as I get caught up on some of my other obligations. Denise
