Best of Luck , Katie! I had to work on my MIL as well,
and VERY unexpectedly, it's mine now. ;)
Just put across that you will give it a very good home and
will put it to use.

Jess,
what a beauty that machine is. Gonna have to check out craigslist and ebay. I'm sure I would be allowed to get one. My hubby rarely says no to sewing stuff. Maybe that's my problem!

Looks to be a fine machine, and another treadle seller is bidding on it , so they must think it's worth it. Probably will bid up much higher~just my guess. I'm just not hep on shuttle bobbin cases in general. The Singer drop-in bobbin models you can find parts for so easily.

I am getting a treadle machine from my mother-in-law! I dropped by my in-law's this morning to deliver some sweet and sour brisket and oven-roasted potatoes (yum! Not made by me; leftovers from the catering company that our son works delivery for). Casually said 'I think I may be getting an old Singer sewing machine.' Miss Helen (mil)said 'I have an old machine -- you may have it.' Oh, well, twist my arm!!

It's a Willcox and Gibbs treadle -- saw the cabinet and the lower part, but she has stuff stacked on top of it in the back bedroom, so I had to go online to see what this machine looks like. OMG! We sat on the bed and looked through the drawers -- lots of attachments and needles (in wooden cases), etc. This winter, when my husband is off from work, we'll pick it up. That will give me some time to find a spot for it, too.

It's a strange machine -- does not have a bobbin, but sews a chain stitch with a hook and a needle. I can't wait to see it in action!

Very excited, katie

Yes, Jess, I think it is moon-shaped. It's kind of like a big backward 'G', a big arcing circle with the plate forming the straight line of the 'G'. I read that Gibbs designed it to be his initial! As I said, I haven't seen the machine part yet, but the cabinet and treadle are in very good condition. I may have to help her move stuff off from it on my next visit and have a peak at it. Oh, I'm so pleased!

And I think I am getting a Singer 301, too -- which is like the big sister to the Singer Featherweight. It's at the sewing shop now, being gone over right now, oild, tension, etc. And if it all works and sews great, I'll be buying it from my friend -- who bought it on Ebay but then bought another one with a cabinet, which is what she was looking for in the first place. (She obviously has the sickness, too!)

Hurrah! for sewing machine collectors!

Thanks, Grace, for visiting my blog! I need to update -- but I want to get some projects finished first and then post them. I'm so geeked about the treadle -- I need to figure out a special project for my new old machine.

Congrats on the treadle Katie......give you time to set up a treadle room! LOL

Here is one for sale in my own town. I'll be watching this one, but it is really rough shape. No drawers, the wood is splitting and it looks a bit rusty.

Rust doesn't scare me off, that can be cleaned off. Okay treadle experts, is this one a thumbs up or down.
