6 treadles, Smoothiejuice, i love it! I'd have to buy a bigger house!

a quick trip to a local antique mall and I found 4 just there! I'm going to learn more about them before purchasing.

yes, I have a list of ones that I would like, and after buyin the first one, my husband thought it would be a great idea to have one in every room!...and we are trying to make plans to put on a bid addition in about 10 months!...More rooms...more treadles!

Someone needs to give these treadles a good home and love them!
I know mine hadn't been sewn on for decades~just think of them sitting there
lonely and wallowing in filth in some old barn, shed, basement or garage. It's
like adopting from a shelter~you're doing a GOOD thing!

I finally got my Minnesota treadle running (the one I'm sitting at in the bonnet pic). Got my belts and bobbins in the mail and put the new belt on and adjusted tensions and got 'er going. So now I have 3 working machines and hopefully it will stay that way. I've sure learned a lot just by fiddling, looking up things online, listening to you all, and having the confidence that I CAN DO IT, and that was majorly instilled by Jessica. I never would have thought to get a treadle and troubleshoot it "alone", but she took away my mental obstacles. I needed a hero to emulate~ROFL!!!

I found a Singer treadle machine and not sure I should buy. I need advice. It's in decent shape. The cabinet has some chips and veneer that is loose. The sewing head looks good and works. I can get it for $100.00 The metal base is a bit rusty. I got the serial number: A DO45252. Is there a website I can go to and find out when it was manufactured and where? Help. Thanks ahead of time. Tracy
Any treadles in my area in good shape for sale and what are reasonable prices to pay?

there are some shuttles on ebay that end in a few days

often the rust on the legs comes off very easily with stiff wire brush

what do the decals look like?

is the veneer wrinkles, or has some just come off in places?

what about the machine itself? any rust? sometimes oil that has sat overtime looks like rust...but it cleans off easily.

Thanks for all the feedback on the treadle! I didn't look to see if it had the shuttle but I will Friday when I go to pick it up.The veneer has several wrinkles that I think I can fix. There is a part of the corner of the cabinet nicked off on the top, but....it is old. When I first enquired about this machine the man said it was from the very early 1900's maybe 1920. I was hoping it was older. I think for $100.00 it is a good deal? Love some opions on this. Maybe this could be a start to a collection! I still want to find one that is from the 1800's - 1900 in decent shape. I saw the one that was auctioned on ebay. Who ended up with it? If I could have made a trip to pick it up I would have surely bid on that one. Anyone out there know of anymore like that 4 sale? Thanks a bunch. Tracy

Jess.........hold on those machines then dearie!! Your man is worth more than that machine! Hmmm.........

Oh, you know that guy I work with who has the wall of treadles in one of his storage units.......I swear I'm gonna choke him. He keeps him-hawing and then he goes and teases me about having six or seven of those.....folding wood thingies full of junk for the machines! ARGH...........I told him they were puzzle boxes and if he couldn't address them by their correct name, then he is not worthy of maintaining possession of them. That they needed to come and live with me!!

So then I find out that one of the women there has her grandmother's treadle that she doesn't know how to fix it up, and I said that it could foster at my home for a while until it recovers! I don't think that she'll take me up on the adoption offer! ARGH again!!

What's a girl to do?????!!!!!!

yes...fostering the recovery of unused and neglected beauties...oh and dont worry about John..he loves my crap. He just likes to also eat dinner and put gas in the cars! And...he is unreplacable...I would ditch all the machines for him and he knows it!

Oh sheesh! I love these treadles! Loong ago, I used to sew on one as a young girl and I still remember the rhythm of the pedal as the stitches marched along. I showed dh a pic of J's new treadle and he said Miss Helen (his mom) has one of those. OHH! Time to bring some tomatoes to Miss Helen! I may have other sewing machine news, soon (don't want to jinx it). Anyway, I love this thread.
