Eggs-a-Blue, true-blue-Sue (love that) I sure hope you're budgeting to come to the farm for the 4th of July holiday, cuz I can't wait to meet you, (and all the others, too!) I think you've got many soul-farmgirl-sistas out here!

ej, boy, those lyrics nail it, don't they? Better get to work on that music budget!!!

May the sun bring you new energy by day, may the moon softly restore you by night, may the rain wash away your worries, may the breeze blow new strength into your being, may you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life. ~~Apache Blessing

Oh yes,Clare,
Ive been stuffing that envelope-under-the-mattress account for a
little while now.
God willin'....I AM a-coming.

Whose idea was that, anyway for "Eggs a Blue"??? I LIKE it... and it is easier to rhyme than Babe.
I'll have to go back over to the Farm Kitchen and see.

not sure if it is the change of weather,
or that pull of the moon,
but I am completely enveloped and moved by the voice Nancy Griffith this morning while I am working.
This song A Simple Life from her CD Heart's in Mind
had me weeping today.

I want a simple life
like my mother.
one true love for my older years
i don't want your wars
to take my children
i want a simple life...while i'm here

the sun and moon walk hand and hand together
trading places shining on the truth
the moon moves the bottom of the oceans
so, the sun can bring a farmer's hands to you

we all seek comfort in the light of day
and our tears can wash off in the rain
everything we need is all around us
in simple time and simple ways

mother nature talks
whispering her thoughts
so the paths we chose to cross
walk one more day

sigh...must be that moon....

Oh, Susan!! Beautiful and thank you for sharing that piece. I do love Nancy Griffin. Her songs cut right to the chase and are so pure sounding.

Sue, I am a long time fan of Nancy’s. I lived in Texas in the 80’s and discovered her on Austin City Limits. Love those bobbie socks. I could listen to ‘One Fair Summer Evening’ over and over again. She recorded it live at the Anderson County Fair, Houston in 1988 and talks about it on the recording. ‘Love at the Five and Dime’ comforts my soul every time I hear it. It is like a beautiful love story put to song.

Rita was sixteen years... hazel eyes and chestnut hair
she made the Woolworth counter shine
Eddie was a sweet romancer, and a darn good dancer
they'd waltz the aisles of the five and dime
They'd sing, "Dance a little closer to me... dance a little closer now
Dance a little closer tonight
Dance a little closer to me... it's closing time
And love's on sale tonight at this five and dime
Eddie played the steel guitar and his mama cried 'cuz he played in the bars
And kept young Rita out late at night
So, they married up in Abilene... lost a child in Tennessee
still, that love survived
One of the boys in Eddie's band... took a shine to Rita's hands
so, Eddie ran off with the bass man's wife
Oh' but he was back by June... singin' a different tune
And sportin' Miss Rita back by his side
Eddie traveled with the barroom bands... till arthritis took his hands
now he sells insurance on the side
Rita's got a house to keep... dimestore novels and a love so sweet
they dance to the radio late at night
They'd waltz the aisles of the five and dime

MJ suggested i listen to Nancy Griffith three days ago. She has cassettes and they're all worn out. These lyrics really got to me, Ms Blue. Guess i better get with it.

Erik,
Please watch the DVD when it comes to your neck of the woods.
I would also highly recommend the "Other Voices, Other Rooms" recording from 1993.
nancy's voice is like fresh butter on warm bread...
oh so yummy.

"Love at the Five and Dime" is also on an old Kathy Mattea CD of ours - she does a wonderful rendition. That whole CD is good!

When I was reading the words I was hearing Kathy Mattea's voice..I am glad I was right...I must have that album too. Is it the same one with "Where've you Been?" on it. That one makes me cry every single time no matter what.

Yes, Jenny - "Where've You Been" is on that same CD. We wondered about a year ago what Kathy Mattea is doing - we decided she's at home with her family enjoying the simple life. But, that's based on our admiration of her peaceful voice.

Jenny and KJD,
Kathy Mattea is alive, well and touring with a brand new CD......just went to her website http://www.mattea.com/KathyMatteaHome.html.
She also has a great personal blog link from her site. I urge you to read the post on the difference between dogs and cats. It is hysterical.
Wanted to cut and paste it here but it's just too long.
She also looks just great!

Thanks for referring us to that site! She looks and sounds good. I loved the cats and dogs, but also the other things I read above and below it. She sounds very easy going, and thoughtful. Her new CD would be a good Christmas gift for my husband.

ok, I dug into the music budget again last night....
Well, what can I say, I splurged on my birthday(always an excuse!)
Anyway,
Found and (purchased) two new recordings by Tim O'Brien....
"Cornbread Nation" & "Fiddler's Green"
The artwork of both covers attracted me first, guest musicians attracted me next: Jerry Douglas and Dan Tyminski( from Alison Krauss' Union Station band), and Del McCoury. All qualified bluegrass greats on their own....then, finally I listened!!
WhooHoo!!The title track of Cornbread Nation was worth the price alone..Julie Bell, check it out!!I can see ya spinning round the bunkhouse kitchen to this one.
http://www.timobrien.net/
oh and for those Kathy Mattea fans... Tim O'Brien wrote the song "Walk the way the Wind Blows"

Just had a little taste of Tim’s “Cornbread Nation” Sue, it was so sweet and yes I can spin all around my worktable with this one. Grab my hand and let’s get started, never mind if there is flour all around. He would be perfect at our Farm Fair in July. Maybe we could talk him into a little visit if I promise to make my cornbread. What-a-ya think?
