We lost a lot of good ones last year, it is sad for the loss of Gene Cernan. What they saw and did was really wonderful for our country.

Shannon - Is the Snowflake Pyrex the blue and white design?

We've lost WAY too many special people last year.

What I find so sad about our passing heroes is the young people coming up have no real heroes - just out-of-control music and sport stars.

Sarah, I couldn't agree more. It seems that today we do not hear much about what we would consider (our definition) of Hero and/or good role models. I am sure there are lots of individuals who do heroic acts and are wonderful role models, but that is rarely talked about in the news.

What seems to make the news is outrageous acts, violence, insults etc ... Not anything I would want to emulate!

Linda - the snowflake pyrex comes in all colors, but I particularly LOVE the white and blue!!!! I don't have any, but dream of one day owning some... Maybe one day :)

Sara - My husband and I have discussed and prayed about that pretty fervently! It is for that reason we own the "Christian Heroes Then and Now" series which is about missionaries, and are starting the collection of "Heroes of history" - both series are written by Janet and Geoff Benge. My hubby likes to read the missionary ones as Read-a-louds to us all, though I also use them for Geography. I use the History ones for history ;) My 11 yo's heroes are George Washington and Sergeant York.

Lee says "Sergeant York was a soldier from Tennessee, in World War I. He captured over 130 Germans during the Battle of Argonne." He was one of the most decorated World War I Army soldiers. When he first was drafted, he was a "conscientious objector," but was eventually convinced that he could still be a good soldier and Christian. They credit his hunting experience as a "backwoodsman" for his shooting skills.

Thanks Shannon, I just love all the things I learn or re-remember from FarmGirls. I knew who he was from the Gary Cooper movie but I didn't know the details and I didn't remember if it was WWI or WWII.

Gary Cooper did an excellent job in the movie "Sergeat York".

We need to teach our children/ grandchildren about the real hero's of our country and world.

Indeed we lost so many last year.

Thinking I am on the downside of this sickness. Dad still has a cough he can't seem to shake and JT is still dealing with all of it too and still working.

Good morning, all! Hope it is a good day for everyone.

Roofers are on the roof now, fixing the leak and repairing some of the aged wood around a dormer window in my attic. There was a leak there before, too, and it was caulked to repair it last year. I don't know if you all have trouble finding good repair persons in the country. So many here do not show up, don't call back, etc. You would think they would want to work. This guy was recommended on FB by several people, returned my message to him almost immediately, and showed up when he said to quote and today to work. YIPPEE!

Does anyone have a 9-10 year old grandson or son that might want a penpal? Or a granddaughter. LOL! Richard, one of my grand-twins, has been a penpal to Shannon's son, Will, for a year now. And when I asked Shannon if by chance he would write to both temporarily, she said he would. YAY Shannon and Will! Phillip's penpal wrote one letter back and then no more responses to his writing. Will is stepping in and writing BOTH of them until we can find Phillip another penpal. Boys at that age tend to not like to write, and the twins' penmanship is not that good. They need practice, and penpals help that since they have to write the letters. Please let me know if you do.

Thanks everyone that was very interesting. I didn't know that.

I sure hope you are feeling better Denise, These coughs just keep hanging on.

My daughter and her dh were having trouble with someone showing up to fix their windows and they finally got a hold of them.
My twin granddaughters aren't ready for penpals yet. It will be a while yet.

hugs

Linda - I got the thinking... I set up a penpal list for children a year or two ago here on MJF website... Much like the adult one! I will try to see if there is any more interest in that and see what I can do... The general gist (for both lists) is to write as many or as few of the other children as you want...

I had a pen pal from the Philipenes for a long time, and when I was a senior in high school I was invited to speak at an international pen pal meeting in our town. The adult speaker was Charles Schultz, creator of the Snoopy cartoons. I got a book as a gift which had his characters drawn in it and autographed. He also drew a large picture of Charlie Brown and snoopy which said to Bonnie from Charlie Brown Snoopy and Charles Schultz. Several years ago I was on Antiques Roadshow with it and I got on tv! Wow, what fun!

What a great story, Bonnie! It is very special to have something like your picture from Charles Schultz, whose Snoopy has long been an American icon.

Darlene, see if you can catch the film, Sargent York on Turner Classic movies, On Dish Network, or other cable tv stations. It is available at some libraries on VHS and DVD and sometimes on you tube. The 1941 film starring Gary Cooper is a fabulous story of a Farm boy going to war.
When I was in school, he was included in our Tennessee History Class.

Bonnie!! Awesome! you met Charles Schultz!! Our whole family loves Charlie Brown!! I have complete scenes, from the Tv shows that I display at Christmas and Halloween. I am soooooooo glad that in the early 1960's Charles Schultz stuck to his guns when CBS said, the Bible passage had to be cut from " A Charlie Brown Christmas" he said NO! and the Tv station wanted it so bad, they agreed to keep it as he created it!!

Linda happy to hear your roof is getting repaired!

i don't have television Connie, I haven't had it since they changed over and I lost all the channels and my converter boxes didn't work good here.
I had to have one put on the roof and couldn't do that. I will see what I can find on amazon Prime.
Thanks

Shannon, You got my curiosity up so I googled Snowflake Pyrex. There were three WINTER, SNOWFLAKE, and SNOWFLAKE GARLAND.
The snowflake GARLAND has a row of scallops and dots with the snowflakes just below the scallops. Snowflake has snowflakes around the dish. Winter...it appears to be the same as snowflake GARLAND.
Which one are you dreaming of?

Here is a picture of the ones I am dreaming of https://www.pinterest.com/pin/10344274117645823/ Oh how I love them. Hubby tells me "one day" hahaha. I think I might need to start buying myself each year for my birthday. I'll tell him they are from the kids ;)

My niece has most of her prettiest pieces at home, due to her small booth size. Her collection is pretty amazing to me, especially since she is only 20.
