Was it the hammered aluminum from the 1950s? Some of that is surfacing again.
My son loves pecans. My husband loves walnuts. I just needed about six cups for pecan pies and celery stuffing for the holidays. The squirrels ate every pecan on our two trees. The tree at the arena has about half good and half bad ones. That is what I have seen everywhere nearby. A lot of bad pecans this year. My son told me to come up to his job. That was good. I shelled a half gallon for them and the same for us. They are Burketts, not a family favorite...but good for cooking.

My mother always had a bowl of nuts a nutcracker on the end table all winter. I love the Brazil nuts and filberts best. LOL! I wish I could find a bowl like my mother's. It was a round wooden bowl with holes on a "stump" in the middle to hold a nut cracker and 2 curved-pointe silver tools to help "dig" stubborn nuts out of the corners and crevices of the shells.

So sorry to hear about Friday, Marilyn.

My mom had a nut bowl and nut cracker like that too Linda, it was great. My favorites were the brazil nuts too. You might look on Etsy or Ebay to find one.

Marilyn, hammered was the word I was looking for but pounded was what I came up with. I had used pounded in another post and my mind stuck on it. You got me thinking and I remembered the heavy aluminum cookware from the 50-70s. I see it occasionally in shops. It has dimples all over. The triangle pot comes to mind. The nut cracker bowl and mallet could be made the same way. It has green felt on the bottom and there was no label. I may just have to go back and take a second look. The only thing is I may be tempting fate and it might just follow me home.

My mother had the Club Aluminum cookware with glass lids - very heavy pans - that she cooked with my entire life. They had that hammered look finish on the outside of them. She had the set of 3 triangle pots with lids - made so they would all fit on one large burner. I think my brother has them now.

Thanks Linda for giving us the name of the cookware. I didn't know why the pot was triangle shape and now I know. I wonder if I found a triangle pot I could use it on my glass top stove. Stainless steel works good - don't know about aluminum.

Sara -

Here are 2 pans on eBay - they have aluminum lids.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Vintage-CLUB-Aluminum-HALF-POT-PANS-w-Lids-Removeable-Handle-Triangle-Shape-/361823936640?hash=item543e632080:g:1GcAAOSwzaJX8b9W

This looks more like my mothers, because hers did not have the long handles. There was a handle that hooked into the "ears" on each pan. So hers must have been Guardian. There are several of these on eBay, and very inexpensive.

Connie, hope you get feeling better and prayers offered up.

Linda thanks for the link - now I know prices - will wait on buying until I am sure I can use it on glass top.

Feel better soon, Connie! Take care of yourself.

The pans were pretty flat, Sara, however, I seem to remember they "warped" sometimes, so probably would work depending on the pan.

Sara and Linda, Ebay...I typed in hammered aluminum nut bowl with mallet. Several came up but I did not see mallets. Some have the pinchers and diggers.

I had my grandmother's wooden nut bowl & cracker. When I moved I didn't have room for everything so the nut bowl went to a sister, but I kept the cracker. I use it to unscrew bottle caps. I did keep her small wooden ice bowl which could be used to hold nuts.

I still have the nut cracker and nut picks from our home growing up. We always had a bowl of nuts at Christmas but I don't seem to remember any special bow in particular. Santa always put a hand full of mixed nuts in the bottom of each stocking and I remember enjoying them during the holidays. Santa was sure kind to leave extras in a bowl after we all ate what was in our stocking!

We also had a nut bowl while growing up. If I remember correctly it looked like it had bark on the outside of it, with the places for the cracker and picks. I have the cracker and picks, but sadly no bowl! We also got nuts in the toe's of our socks and a tangerine along with a few pieces of hard candy. We hung the socks that we wore! No big elaborate Christmas Stockings like they have today!!
Life was sure simple back then. Mom made all our Christmas decorations too.
