Nancy, it's rained off and on all day. but not heavy. I appreciate any rain. It's a shame that it took a hurricane 1 so we could have rain. Haven't watched any news today but on-line I saw where one is confirmed dead and thousands without power in the Houston area.

Easley SC finally got a good soaker rain Sunday night. Beefsteak tomatoes are taking forever to ripen Pepper plants are 5 feet tall.
Too hot and humid to be outside. I took rugs outside to dry at 8 am and within 5 minutes I felt miserable. I'm cleaning today. Been cleaning 2 hours and a lot more to get done.
I havent kept up with regular cleaning, having swelling in my hands. Would anyone like some dust-achoo LOL

Today's good mood brought to you by a lot of coffee!!!

Tara, I don't remember who posted this or when. "I don't mind you writing in my dust just don't date it".

Glad you got a good soaking rain. Maybe your slicing tomatoes will catch up now.

Love that quote. Actually dusting is about the only thing I can do easily -- it doesn't require bending over or getting up and down. My house hasn't had a good cleaning since I've had to wear braces on my hands 24/7. I can't find a good cleaning person that charges less than $40 an hour so I muddle through it as best I can.

Happy you finally got some rain -- a blessing for some is a curse for othrs. This horribe heat has kept many of us indoors.

Hello all, we are finally getting a break from rain. It has been a wet summer. Got half our hay down, and will be cutting more today. We are going to get some of the heat you all are having. Will help the hay dry. Fingers crossed no more rain till the hay is all baled.

Michele we have had just the opposite with very little rain this summer but lots of heat. We did have a sprinkle last night and they are saying rain today. We shall see. My plants could sure use it!

Michelle, here's to you getting the hay baled.

Denise, I know what you mean about the heat and little rain though we did get a good soaking rain Mon and Mon night.

Judith you are so right about rain being a blessing for some and for others a curse.

Going to the bank today in my sister's pickup so that means I will have to wear jeans so I can get up in it. Around the house I wear loose fitting maxi or midi dresses, I just hate to have to put on anything with a waist even if it is elastic.

I hope any of our Texas Farmgirls who had some effects of Beryl are OK. My niece lives in Houston and she had some downed small trees, her backyard fence demolished and flooding everywhere. The power was still out after 3 days so I am hoping things are getting back to normal again. Beryl was one big nasty storm!

On a separate note, our AC quit working last night so it has been a long hot night for us. The repair person is on his way and we are hoping there won't be a big issue getting it fixed. If parts have to be ordered, we are probably going to a hotel so we can at least sleep!

Sara,
I'm with you. I mostly wear skirts and loose tops in the summer though. Just because it is much cooler.

Winnie I hope you get your ac taken care with minor fix.

Michelle -- I remember when we lived in the country our hay-growing neighbors trying to outguess the weather. I wish you luck.

Winnie-- my plans for the A/C going out are:
1. Fill the bathtub with cold water, although our cold water is now 89F, and sit in it.
2. The motel down the street.

Sara --I wear loose dresses all summer. DH keeps a step stool in the truck for me.

My heart goes out to those poor people in Houston with the heat, humidity, and no power and a/c.

Judith, back in the day of my childhood cars and trucks had running boards. They sure would come in handy now. My most vivid memory of running boards is driving through flood waters almost up to the running boards.

My ten-year-old great-great niece made cookies from scratch and gave me one. She also made a cake from scratch because she wanted to make one that was harder to do then a box cake mix. I'm proud of her for wanting to learn to cook and for my great niece teaching her.

Sara -- I have been begging and pleading for him to have a step installed on the truck. I've ssen it so I know it can be done. Maybe someday....

Wonderful for your gg neice. Is there a 4-ah club near her? I learn a lot of cooking in my years of 4-H cooking projects.

The triplets are home so 4-H would be something for my great-niece to look into. I was in 4-H in elementary school and still make my bed the way I was taught. The only thing that has changed is having fitted bottom sheets.

Been quiet on this forum and that goes for me too. Not much to talk about when it's hot and the humidity is high. The big thing for me to do today was to cut my hair. I have cut my hair for the last 12 years and kept it short but for months now I haven't felt like doing it and too many days when I shouldn't have scissors near my eyes. So my hair had gotten down to my shoulders which is longer than it has ever been. I did get it cut and I feel like me again. I cut it in a bob hairstyle so there's no fancy cutting to be done. I know you girls remember the bob.

I have my youngest 2 grands since yesterday. We've been having a good time. They start school tomorrow. I can't believe the last one is old enough to go already. Times flies for sure!

Sara
I would love if I could cut my own hair but I have it just past my shoulders and am only trimming. Can't get it straight so never do my own. I use to cut the front myself when I was younger and bolder about doing it.

My hair was down to my fanny by the time covid was over, not that it's ever going to be over but you know what I mean. When the problems with osteoarthritis and wrist braces began I found I couldn't manage long hair so off it came. DH was unhappy but he wasn't the one who had to untangle, brush and wash it. I really enjoy having short hair -- especially in these hot summer days and nights. As for winter, well that's what hats are for.

My hair is getting longer again. Part way down my back now. I just don't take the time for myself to get it cut. That and I think I would cut all my brown off......... haha. So today it is braided in anticipation of baling second crop. Have maybe 15 acres down, and rain is coming in over night tonight.

I had trouble just cutting my bangs back in the day, talk about crooked and too short trying to fix them. Ha, Ha. Now I let my hair stylist take care of my hair then no mistakes.
We finally got a bit of rain which really helps my container veggies, I can not wait for my tomatoes to grow up. My mouth waters just looking at them.
Finally took down my 4th of July decorations and my 4th of July tree. Now to find my fall decorations etc. I know they are in the barn somewhere.
Have a beautiful week Farmgirls.

My bangs come out wonky when I try to cut them too. Now I rely on Supercuts or Great Clips.
I leave my July 4th decorations out until Labor Day. Mostly pure laziness on my part but seems appropriate. Now I need to find some election decorations or maybe just keep the July 4th ones out until November. By then I will be thoroughly tired of them and have to make new ones.

Always something to do for the house. Started on cleaning windows in and outside. I am also washing window frame and blinds.
I'm deep cleaning here and there. My thyroid slowing down more( I have auto-immune thyroiditis) and I am tired after just a few hours of work.
I have preserved more peppers and tomatoes from garden. Tomatoes are about done for the year. Tomorrow we will enjoy our last large heirloom slicing tomato with bacon, cheese and lettuce. In SC light starts getting less by early August and tomatoes about crap out then. I'm reading to rip out plants anyway.
Squash bugs are awful, I give up(tried 3 times) on growing summer squash. But I think I'll have 6 cups of basil to dehydrate.

Today's good mood brought to you by a lot of coffee!!!

Back when I had a garden I would go out every day and handpick the squash bugs and put them in a jug that had about an inch of gasoline in it. Not fun and time-consuming but it worked pretty well.
