This sweet night gown was made from flour sack material and the top/bodice was crocheted with a very small crochet hook and tatting across the top.
The little table cloth was a repurposed flour sack and embroidered with a Verse around the edges.

The Museum of Art and Culture, aka "M.A.C.",, had a lovely Feed/Flour Sack display,, this dress and the quilt and night gown were donated/on loan to the museum for the display.

This is the under side of a dress jacket/bodice.. yep flour sack was used for clothes lining.

Jean, thank you my Flour Sack came in the mail yesterday. I can't wait to check out the things that have been on line and get some inspiration.

I was digging through some containers of old-vintage fabric and I forgot I had these in there along with some fabrics
that might have been former feed-flour sacks.
While digging through the stash I did figure a way to know for sure if
the fabric was flour-feed sack, it is on the stitching, across the top, Loop stitching that easily pulls out., also I noticed on the back of one of the sacks there was a little stamping with instructions on how to pull the thread out.
I also noticed a difference in fabric texture and thickness.

(my stash)

A simple 10# bag for sugar. Tight woven, thin cotton.

Egg mash- chicken feed. This bag is 36” tall, medium weight and soft. It would make a lovely pillow case or child’s clothing.

The largest of the 3 bags, is also the thickest fabric. It’s hard to read-faded, but I think it was a 50# bag.

The CP bag is from Colgate Palmolive,, but I have no clue what it held.

Ok,,, much faded,, but the big CP bag contained Soap Flakes..
It never occurred to me that soap flakes came in 50# bags,,,

The “pointing fingers “ was on the backside of the little sugar bag.

These were the only printed bags (in the mueseum) and the red one is a retro remake.
The other was also newer made, even though it looks like vintage cloth.

Notice the UPC code?

The Kitchen Queen label might have been from the 1960’s… about mid 1960 the US Postal Dept stated using Zip Codes.

I forgot to mention , on the green one, the label is thin tissue type paper that once wet probably came of easy.

Thanks for sharing Grace, I’ve never seen actual feed sack fabric that I know of. I can’t wait to see what Jean sends me!

Marlene is on the ball! I received my feed sack project today along with a bunch of other goodies!

I love the cow towel! The extra fabric will be put to good use :) The Halloween placemat is cute and how did you know I could use a new coin purse?

For the feed sack project Marlene made a junk journal out of a book:

There are some recipes in there:

Some farm/country pictures:

There are a bunch of other things in there but you can tell it was made just for me by this one...

Yup - cows!!!!

Thanks for a great swap Marlene! I'll let you know when yours is on it's way.
