My world rather fell apart and I just want to apologize for not being active on the board.

Many of you don't know me, but I hope many of you do remember me. Frannie from KY, I want to apologize for not bringing Rebekah to my home...my brain short circuited and all thoughts flew out the window. It has been tough here. I think that I did complete all of the other outstanding promises...except an apron pattern, so please girlfriends forgive me.

Short explaination. I went back to work fulltime 6 months ago, in the hospital right when they were cutting back staff due to a corporate takeover. Needless to say, we nurses have been worked like you just can't believe. Now I'm not a whiner, but this is a very dangerous situation. I have made the decision to leave nursing over all of this. No I haven't made any errors or anything, but a nurse in the US was just sentenced to 6 years in prison for a medication error, yes a young mother died because of her actions....but it could have been done by any nurse in the working conditions nurses are forced to work now adays. Second, my son's father committed suicide....very tragic, very sad....Third, my mother has been diagnosed with a serious illness and will be coming to live with us next week. I will be caring for her....I am so glad she will be here. So please dear farmgirl friends, forgive me for being a little off kilter the past few months. Now that I will be home caring for my mother, and not working except two days a month to pay for our health insurance, I hope to be back on boards soon.
Love and thanks,
Georgann

Hello Georgann,
Blessings in this season for you and yours. May you find joy in precious moments with your mother and son.
Suicide is such a lonely, sad and frightening happening for both the individual and family. May you find others near who will have compassion for your family.
I agree with you about the nursing situation, not good at all and very difficult because most all nurses care very deeply for their patients and their profession.
Again blessings and cheer for you. From the posts here and in the past I can see you have many who care for you in Farmgirl World.
May this comfort you.

Aunt George,
So So glad you will be back with us, have missed you. So sorry to hear what a tough time you have been having. I was aware that your work was pretty much taking over your life but the other issues that were keeping you away, no, I was not aware of. I hope being home with your Mom will put you back on track, and my goodness you must need some well earned rest. How are the girls? And do you have an extra room for your Mom? As I recall she didn't live real near you did she? or was that your sister? As you can see I have missed you, lots of questions. Well the bottom line is, glad you are going to be checking in here, and special thoughts for your Mom.

Hi Aunt George:

It is so good to have you back. Sometimes I just spend hours reading the postings and not saying anything. Your voice was always so welcoming and homey. Hope all goes well with mom at the house and that you recover from the other sadnesses in life.

The life of a nurse in this country is an outrage and I am sorry that you had to take such a drastic step at this time. Between overworked doctors who cannot afford the insurance and the way that nurses are expected to perform, it will be a sad day for our healthcare system very soon, if not already!

Warm wishes...Sheryl-lyn

Thank you all so much for your words of understanding and encouragement. Ya'll are wonderful. My mother is now here and we have her mostly unpacked and settled in her room. I have quit work for now and we will be starting the MD rounds next week. But for this weekend we are simply loving each other, laughing and hopefully getting to know one another better as friends and adults. My daughters are loving having their grandmother here under the same roof! We had a deep heart to heart the other wee hours of the morning and I think my mother has decided to let this all take its course without the intervention of chemotherapy....I am sad and relieved all at the same time. I love her so much...anyway, thank you again. Hope to be on again very soon. Love and hugs,

Your mom is so lucky to have you and your girls are so blessed to be able to have both mom and grandma at home. I miss my grandma so much even now (she passed 14 years ago) and loved all the time I had with her..she was more of a mom to me than my mom was most of my life. This can be such a wonderful time for you and your mom together too. I will sure be keeping you in my prayers as I am sure it is such a trying and scary time too. I am so glad to see you here!!

Thank you again to all of my farmgirls! I have been isolated way too long from all of you. A dear friend of mine...here on MJ's has been encouraging me to come back to the boards so here I am again.

An update on us: Mom is here and settled in. We are enjoying every minute and every day. She looks hearty and hale, is eating well and sleeping well. According to my sister, she wasn't eating or sleeping well at all before she came here to be with us. Yesterday was her 71st birthday and I baked her a Key Lime/Coconut angel food cake. Coconut is her favorite type of cake. She likes my family doctor, he treated her very well with honesty and truth and told her if she doesn't have long to live, then live each day with enjoyment!! We go to the oncologist this coming Friday. My brother is flying here from London today and we are going to Washington DC to take a capitol tour. Mom has always wanted to do this! So, we are going to do as much as possible before she can't do these things. I am so grateful to have her in my life and so grateful that my husband is soooo understanding. He told me to quit work.....which I did.....which in itself is saving my life! Life is good, and thank you all for your understanding and friendship.

Much love and abundant blessings,
Georgann

How absolutely touching and tearjerking all rolled into one! I am glad you have good friends here for support. You are such a good daughter to honor your mother this way, just opening your life to her, to make her last days beautiful. It is sadly amazing that there are many people out there that wouldn't do that; and of course there are some that wish they could but can't.
Blessings to you,
XO

Oh Georgann, this brings tears to my eyes, but it sounds like things are much more on track for you. I'm so glad to see you back. Being gone for awhile and then coming back is like coming home to good friends. Take care and I hope we hear from you often.

Aunt George, sorry for my late reply but somehow I missed your posting last month. I, too, am so very glad that you are back here among FRIENDS!

It sounds to me like your family has indeed taken the right direction with regard to your professional nursing career (how VERY scary to read your cautionary tales) and to be able to spend quality time with your mom.

Who knows, this may be your single most important "nursing" experience of your life, done with love and caring instead of medications and procedures. You go, girl!

Enjoy your Washington, DC tour...this will be a wonderful event to enjoy now as a family, and for you and your girls, in particular, to remember for years to come.
They will always remember this special time with their grandma. My mom moved my granddad into our home in Michigan, from Florida, for the last year of his life. I never will forget the quiet times I spent playing (and always losing) checkers and other board games with this wonderful and gentle giant. Although he became stepfather to my mom and her sister when they were grown and married with children of their own, he was much loved and truly spent his final days in the bosom of his family after we lost my grandma.

Stay in touch with us here, please, and you know that my prayers and hugs go out to you and your family.

Hugs,

Jo

Georgann, God bless you and your family, especially your wise husband who obviously knows you will never have the opportunity to recapture these moments with your mom, and that you will never forgive yourself if you miss them......you can always go back to work. Just like the movie said, seize the day, and make the most of it. With loving thoughts, Nance
