Grace, An embroidery machine is on my wish list! Not sure which one to get, but trying to save up for one. If you have any suggestions please let me know. I currently have a Janome surger and Brother. Really enjoy them both.
My daughter loves Walking Dead, so these pillowcases will be a bit gory as far as I'm concerned, but I'm sure she will love them.

Judy...
I am a true believer in not investing big bucks into a machine until I have used one (lesser priced) for awhile to see if I really enjoy it and will use it alot.
After having taken a embroidery machine class thru Joannes fabric store.. (Hasqurverna).. which I found very overwhelming... I decided aginst the uber expensive machine and went to walmart and bought their entry level 4x4 Brother Embroidery machine for around $300.
I have used it to death and can down load off the internet patterns... and there are free patterns available too!
If I were in the market for a new machine I would buy another Brother but I would get the 5x7 size...
I forgot to mention... my very 1st embroidery machine was (still have) a Bernina Deco 650... it does 4x4 designs... but It is older and is not computer compatable.
I bought it used and was a great machine to learn on.

If you can find a place that offers classes... keep in mind they will try to get you excited about "all the things their machine can do"... and those machines will have a hefty price tag... some as much as a mini compact car... $10.000 lol!
There are wonderful lesser expensive machines out there... and some of the big name brands are all equally good... it's all about being " user friendly".
Pfaff... Bernina...Janome...Singer...Brother... Hasquverna... etc... everyone has a favorite that they are comfortable with..
for me, it's Brother and Bernia...
Now start saving and go have fun testing them out.

I completed my first bra this afternoon! Downloaded an on line class about 2 months ago and have been working on it on and off. The instructor said to remember that this first bra is a practice bra and not to expect it to be perfect. Believe me it's not! But I did it!! :)

Grace, got so excited about my bra I didn't see your post. Thanks for the advice. I really like my Brother Machine. My Janome was a gift from my Mother-in-law. I use it a lot, but I know I could be doing a lot more with it. Never had any lessons because I didn't buy it from a store. I'm in no hurry but will do some more investigating. I really want one I can hook up to my computer. That just seems to make a lot of sense.

I am going to a quilting retreat on Thurs and Friday and plan to finish up SEVERAL quilt tops and get them off my UFO list. Then they will be sent to my longarm quilter for her part in the process. I have blocks from several of my quilt guild swaps and also a number of our 10" square swaps. Plus I have blocks to make from my small quilting group. Hopefully these will all go towards completing my MJF UFO merit badges - all three levels.

OMGeepers!...
it only took me 6 mo to finish 2 little UFO 's... lol!
I started 2 small (scrapping) memory books last November... they were to be Christmas gifts... well they are now finished and packaged up and ready to go to the Post...
So they are very late gifts or very early gifts... all depends on how you look at it!

Whoot Whoot! I finished up several UFO's..

my cross stitch playful Scotties...(from a vtg. 'Aunt Lynda's' transfer patterns)

two counted cross stitch projects and one pin cushion.

I have a bad habit of doing the needle work,, but not turning them into anything... lol!

Last is a strip quilt which really isn't a true UFO as it is only about 3 months in the making..

I actually made two of these,, but alas the other one will probably become a UFO,,, as I need to drive down the mountains to buy another bag of quilt batting... lol!
Both lap quilts will go to 'Covers of Love' for shut-in's and hospital patients.
OK,,, maybe I will get another UFO or 2 done next week...

Great job, Grace. Love the quilt colors. Someone will be blessed to receive it.

Judy, two of my favorite things are church bazaars and the women who make them happen.

Judy, that's so cool that you made your own bra! I think that would be like putting a puzzle together and rather daunting.

Grace, your completed pretties are just so pretty! It makes me want to be craft instead of sorting crafts! Soon my pretties, soon!

Ladies I am not a sewer a want to be sewer thou. Today I grabbed the package of per cut squares I bought at Walmart and I sat down at the machine and sewed all 21 off then together. In rows I'd say I am on my way to making a quilt top . I will keep practicing and will get better over time. Proud of me.

Ruthie - That's how I started. I wanted a quilt for colle/.ge. I made a square template of cardboard and gathered up all the clothing we weren't wearing anymore. I took the clothing apart and cut out squares. I pieced them together rather simply and bought extra to make it big enough for a twin bed. I bought some batting and a backing and put it together and tied the corners. It was my first sewing design. Too bad all I had was double and single knit polyester. It was the late 70's/early 80's after all.

ok,, it's just to hot over here to work outside... so I figured today was a perfect day to finish up one of my UFO's...

I started this many months ago... it was a stamped cross stitch pillow kit sent to me by my childhood BFF in Germany... I just finished it up and come Christmas,, I will send it back to her.

I got it all finished and then while looking at my uploaded photos,,, I noticed I missed 1/2 of a stitch... Oh Duh!

Ruthie, practice makes perfect. Look out though, you'll become a fabric hoarder like the rest of us! LOL!

Grace, the cross stitch is beautiful. I love Christmas! I wish you were close enough to come and visit. I'll think of you when I eat those beans! Yum!

Lol. I am already a fabric hoarder. I have had this on my finding me list for a very long time. And I have done several hand stitched projects. So no hope for me.

Grace I admire your cross stitch, I just cannot get it centered and even if some one (my sister) starts it for me I end up off in a corner somewhere lopsided cross stitch..

I have been an avid cross stitcher since I was 20y/o...
but now with my vision failing it is becoming difficult at best unless I am under direct light (I use a standing OTT lite) or outside in daylight... 14ct is as small as I can do now... no more 18ct or even weave :>(

Don't laugh,,, there is 8ct Aida cloth,, which I could use, but then my designs would be ginormous! lol!

I would never laugh, because I just can't do it. I hear you about the eye sight thing, thread needles is a pain. One of my friends who does beautiful embroidery bought the Ott light with the magnefying glass attached. She really likes hers.
