On the GirlGab site (girlgab.com), Tami Erwin has a blog post featuring some choices for her summer reading program. Y'all might want to take a look to see if anything looks appealing.

I'm a Christian but I'm not a prude. Most things that are in context work with me. Can't do much with certain romance novels unless its historical. Most of the characters make you want to choke them.

What about Jan Karon or Jennifer Chevarini(sp) to start? Or Maeve Binchy?

Aspiring Titus II and Proverbs 31 Lady.

Guess we need to set up the format. Formal or informal? Who wants to volunteer the title of the first book and lead the discussion?

Tracy, let's read Jan Karon's "in The Company of Others"
We'll start on Tuesday May 28th so that everyone has time to get the book. I'll search for a readers guide and we'll chat here on the forum.

Everyone check in here when you have your book.

Thanks, Angie, for getting this going. It's checked out from our local library, but we have inter-library loan and its available in a neighboring town. I should be able to pick it up in a few days.

I've got my copy! I'm ready to go. I'm spending next week babysitting at my daughter's house and her little guy takes nice long naps, so I'll be away from my garden and free to read!

Good morning FarmGirl Bookies! Hope you all enjoyed that lovely 3 day weekend. yesterday felt like such a bonus.Don't know about you but it took a LOT of self control on my part to not pick up our book and start reading!
So, let's begin.

Today we will start "In The Company of Others" by Jan Karon. Jan Karon is a prolific writer and is most famous for her "Mitford" Series where we first meet Father Tim. Over the years we get to know him and his lovely wife Cynthia, a children's book author.
Today we will travel with them on the next chapter in their lives.

I have never done this before, am completely winging it but i figure y'all won't mind.Chances are we all read at different speeds but I'll attempt to find a routine that works for us all. Please feel free to interject at any time, suggestions/recommendations are always welcome!
I will post "officially" Sunday evenings, Wednesdays (this week Tuesday) and Fridays, but let's keep chatting amongst ourselves along the way. (This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know our fellow farmgirls)

Week 1- read 10 chapters by Sunday June 2nd. (I'm thinking 10 chapters a week but please let me know if this is too much-feel free to PM me if you want)

ready.....set....GO!

I've got a bathroom to paint, the last third of my garden to seed and company coming the week of the 2nd, so I will try hard to get in ten chapters, but can't guarantee it. For winging it, you're doing terrific!

No problem Stephanie, we want to enjoy the book too and not just rush through it. I'll try and not be a "plot spoiler' when i post just in case![

I couldn't wait for the book to become available through my library ebook so I broke down and bought it! I'm starting it today. Nothing like having my own copy so I can take my time and not wrack up late fees!

Hello all! Are you enjoying our first taste of Ireland? I would love to sit in one of those cozy Irish pubs and people watch wouldn't you?
Do any of you have Irish ancestors?

Thanks for the book choice. We haven't started the official discussion but I'd like to say how I enjoy the author's style. There is a peace to the reading, I will definitely want to read other books by Jan Karon. Now, even more, I would like to see Ireland. There is no Irish in my heritage but I would almost like the to be.
