This board has so many wonderful sub-catagories that I may have over looked this but I was wondering if there is a dedicated book club forum? I know that there's one in the Sisterhood section but I don't have membership or even a local chapter (I emailed and never got a response).

I don't think so Tracy. Did you have an idea for a book club or hoping to join one?

A book club sounds like fun to me too.

Susan, I noticed your tag line as I have just recently "discovered" Mary Oliver. Is there a book of her work that you could recommend?

Angie,
Honestly I only know about Mary Oliver from a few poems and quotations I've found. A real favorite is one poem, called Wild Geese.

Tracy and Angie do you have a suggestion? If it isn't at the local library I'd need a few days to come up with a copy. I'm pretty open to most any kind of book.

There's a thread called farmgirl's bookshelf that might have some good ideas.

I have never particpated in a book group before (even though i read voraciously!)
Tracy, Cindy, what do you think?
Should we do some digging over the weekend and come back with ideas on Sunday evening maybe?

Sounds good to me. I'd like to start soon. When things drag on to long they often don't happen at all!

I've been in a couple of email book clubs where one person is the "leader" and puts together the email list. Members take turns coming up with a book for that month and post some discussion questions. The everyone emails the entire group with questions and comments. This has worked well in the online book clubs I've been in. It would be fun to have a farmgirl book club.

Pam,
That sounds like a workable plan. I could put together an e-mail list, but would like someone else to do the first book anyway. Would you be willing to do the first discussion plan, Pam, if that is OK with Angie and Tracy too? I'm sure that is easier if the person doing it can choose the book.

Tracy, Angie, anyone else interested,
Do we want to place some guidelines for book choice? For me most anything is good; farmgirl focus, fiction, mysteries, biographies, poetry, most anything except please no werewolves!

Do the rest of you have certain favorite types or no-no's?
Do we want timelines or a group name?

Pam, I like the idea you shared.

Susan, I am fine with doing it this way.
I am open to any type of book except true crime. (I enjoy reading to escape the yucky stuff going on in the world)

(I have a large reading wish list if ideas are needed)

(Susan, i just bought one of Mary Oliver's books of poetry this weekend. I'm looking forward to delving into it. she is a prolific writer!)

I am familiar with Pam's format, so it's not a problem for me. I don't think I have anything topic-wise that I would have a problem with.

Hey Cindy, I got your email and mine bounced back also. I've been MIA watching the littles this weekend. Just got back on my computer this evening.

I am pretty open to anything as long as it's not vampires, and 50 Shades of Crap!

I love classics, books by Jan Karon, English mysteries (country manor stuff) historical fiction as a start.

Gosh I'm excited!

Hi Tracy,
Sorry about the e-mail glitch. It was my fault, I had changed addresses last fall and hadn't updated my info here. It's fixed now. I've gotten the other email addresses, as soon as I get yours I can send each a list so we can have that part settled.

Let's get this show on the road!
I've gotten the addresses except for Pam's. Anyone else interested can let me know and I'll add them as well.

So..... What needs to be set up?
1. Do we want to propose choices and vote on a book?
2. Do we just want to have each of us choose a book when we are the leader?
and rotate that around?
3. So far we are eliminating werewolves, vampires, Seven shades of Gray, and true crime stories. That leaves a lot of possibilities.
4. Does someone want to go first as book leader? If not, I could just toss the names in a hat and draw them out.

Anything else that we need to think about before starting?

Susan

how do people feel about harlequin-type romances or that sort of explicitness? the only reason i ask is ive noticed some people with bible verses in their taglines and wondered what the "comfort zone" is out there regarding that genre or adult themes... personally i prefer Christian fiction, but i dont want to be a debbie downer to the group because of that. it does limit the selections of what i feel comfortable reading...thoughts?
