Hello Newbies!!! ~~~~~waving~~~~~

Annie and Mary it is good to have you aboard! I eat what I want I just eat smaller portions of it. And I move more. Push that grocery cart, it counts as movement. So does the lawnmower!!! Moving is a great exercise too.

How about kicking a ball around the yard with the kids or grandkids or shooting basket ball or throwing a frisbee. Just move more today than you did yesterday.

Hello new ladies! So glad to have you here. Good idea about pushing the lawn mower around. I mow the paths between my garden beds, but hubby mows the lawns. Maybe I'll start mowing the lawn too.

Mary - I think the food thing is all up to what your body needs. I found out that if I eat a little something every couple of hours, then I lost the weight. It just fell off. Those 100 calorie packs of anything will work. Cookies, nuts, crackers....I also love carrots & celery so I would put them in a baggie in my purse. Also, lots and lots of water. And if you actually crave crave CRAVE something sweet, well, there's a 100 calorie pack for that too! Or just freeze those tiny bite sized candy bars and take one. Believe me, a frozen snickers bite will last and last and outlast your craving!!

I also got one of those X-Box games called Starwars and most of the games require you to be in front of the TV moving. 1/2 an hour of that will really work up a sweat!

Well, I'm off to start building a chicken coop. Yup - I've taken the plunge into egg management!!

Keep up all the good work.

Hugs and Squishies!!

Hello new ladies! It sounds like everyone is motivated! :-) hooray for all of you!

Kim, thanks for the advice. I've upped my calories by 400, and I don't crave food as much as before.. It's hard to eat more because my body is so used to 1200 calories. But hopefully it will get used to this soon.

I'm kind of depressed. I've been trying to lose weight for 3 months and nothing is working. I have a couple events in June that I wanted to look slim for, and I haven't lost at all. Even my clothes are the same, despite working out. I'm so disappointed I could cry.

HI gang.. glad to be on board.. Kathy.. love the chicken coop idea. I guess you can let them out once in awhile and chase chickens around the yard for exercise. LOL..

And Breanna.. if you are exercising a lot, you may be putting on Muscle (which weighs a lot more than fat.). The best test is how your clothes fit.

About 20 years ago (LOL) I looked like a matronly mother (age 36 about 185 lbs).. I guess I ate for 2 Green Bay Packers when I was pregnant with my last child and forgot to stop after he was born. After my husband and I started to go to country western dances on Saturday night with friends, I became motivated to do something (sure this was 20 years ago, but bare with me).

I got on my cheapo exercise bike and road a 1/2 mile. Thought I was going to DIE ! I ate the same portion size as my 4 year old and did old fashioned floor exercises for 1/2 hour or more in the afternoon at kid nap time. I used to drink a 1/2 liter of Pepsi a day and dropped that bad habit. After a while 1/2 mile went to 1 and then 2 and finally I was up with the roosters exercise-biking 45 minutes each morning and 45 minutes end of day (took quite a while to get there).

I NEVER stepped on a scale from March through Mid August. When I did weigh, I was aghast! 149!!! BUT... I was THINNER than when I got married at 127 lbs. The weight was muscle that helps to burn extra fat too. To this day I cannot imagine just how small I actually was.

Now, however I am at 183 (again) and 149 sounds wonderful to me.

Got back in the saddle today. Supper was my mother famous Summer Stew.. made from regular potatoes, green peppers, Zucchini (from my garden) and a thin Italian tomato sauce.. and of course some french bread. One of my favorite childhood meals. We would have it once a week in summer time. Even DH loved it!!

Tomorrow the exercise regime starts again. My doctor told me that an hour of walking will only burn off ONE oreo cookie. Sensible eating is the most effective way to lose weight. Exercise is good for the heart and helps in other ways.

To really lose weight with exercise you need to be running a 10k or bicycling 10 miles each day... Hubby was an athlete some years back (bull rider, champion white water kiyaker, triathalons, etc) .. he just puts me to shame.. came back from his bike ride today... "HI, I just did 17 miles", he exclaims.. He's 71 years old!!! Me.. I drove to town in the car and came home and took a nap with Mr. Cat. LOL... And I wonder why.....

Love this outlet. It's like having our own blog. Now I just need to reread this every day to keep the motivation flowing. MY GOAL: WILL BE IN THE 170'S BY END OF JUNE !!

Mary.......that is a wonderful story and a great goal. You go girl I am sure you will make it!

I guess I need to bite the bullet and step up to the plate and be honest here. When I started this journey I was 233 pounds. I am 52 yrs old and very active. My grandson says his mom must be older than me!! Well I am down to 208 as of this morning. I would like to be below 200 by July 4th. I am not denying myself anything, I just eat less of it. And I try to move everyday. If it rains I can get on the treadmill or just walk the steps in my home. At this weight I realize that anything I do that moves my body is EXERCISE! But you know I have gals in my neighborhood that are in their 30's that cannot keep up with their kids and they are alot lighter than me.

So lets feel good about what we are all doing and keep moving. We are a force to be reckoned with!!!

Hi Kim... Just keep moving girl... and I am soo proud of your successes !! Motivation is the key..

I find that I am very environmentally challenged. When I am in one environment I am motivated.. another - a couch potato. LOL... When I get to the store this week I am buy some organic chicken stock. A few years back my doctor put me on a soft diet for a few days and I actually liked the stuff. LOW in calories, warmed in a coffee mug in the micro.. filling.. Add a few chopped veggies left over from dinner and its GOOD!
I grilled some of that wonderful zucchini, bell peppers, and onions the other night.. mmmm.. I think I found a good lunch or afternoon munch..

JUST KEEP ON KEEPING ON... No matter what they say... we REALLY are what we eat !!

GO GIRL !!

Rode our bikes to the gym (we are lucky to have one in an old school out here in the boonies), then lifted weights and rode our bikes back - 6 miles round trip.

Making a pot of dry black beans in the crock pot, and then a pot of steel cut oats in another (with goat's milk from our goat).

I went running yesterday morning- boy was I sore! But it felt great to get out and move again. I think my weight plateau has broken! I weighed in yesterday and had lost 4 pounds. My whole body feels smaller, too. It's like I can watch the fat melt off when I run! :-) Kristina, steel cut oats and black beans sound delicious! I may have some black beans for lunch...
Keep it up ladies! Thanks for all the encouragement.

Welcome newbies! I look forward to hearing your hints about staying (getting) fit.

Kristina, You are riding your bike to the gym? You are kicking butt! Way to go. I have steel cut oats for lunch everyday. It is pretty yummy.

Madelena,or do you prefer, Mary? How is the exercise regimen going? You did it once ... so you know you have it in you! Glad to hear you story.

Breanna, if I went running, I would AT LEAST be sore. I bet that does the trick with the plateau, like you said.

I planted my garden yesterday. So I am a bit sore today. But, I will hit gardening-shape soon. The knees and back are not as young as they used to be. Even though I am only 50, my body seems a bit ahead aging wise.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

I have been kicking it up a notch this weekend with the moving. Lots of gardening and walking/hiking with the dogs in the early morning. And dh and I are going to walk at 6am. I really should get to bed I guess!

Keep on moving ladies and eat some of that fresh produce from the gardens.

Way to go! Our weather finally has cleared so I will get back to gardening which is such an easy way for me to get my moving in. I enjoy it so it goes by quickly. We also take the dogs around the property and that is fun, too.

Anybody got some good - low cal - recipe for zucchini? Once they start coming in, I would love some new ideas for ways to enjoy them beyond my favorite of steamed with parmesan cheese!

Well....we have "fallen off the wagon" but picking ourselves back up this week. Summer work just gets in the way of my daily exercise. I just have to do it in the early am or it doesn't get focused on as a priority.

UGH! At my lowest, I was down to 186 and now I'm back up to 194. Time to get serious again. It's the summer ice cream. I need to remember that a few bites is just fine, but I don't need a whole gigantic bowl!

Time to get back to planning out meals and snacks, doing some extra moving during the day and keeping my hands/brain busy so I don't start snacking.

Marianne, I love zucchini on the grill, by itself or with onions, peppers, eggplant, whatever. Cut it in half if it's small, or in slices if it's large, coat it with a little olive oil and whatever herbs and spices you like. I do a big batch and then eat it for a few days. It's as good cold as it is hot off the grill.

Marianne,
We do sort of the same kind of thing as Michele but cooking in a wok with a little olive oil and lots of our favorite spices. We also toss in a little chicken or tilapia . . even shrimp.

I have had a salad for dinner 2 nights in a row. Lettuce from the garden, tomatoes, cucs, green onion from the garden, radishes from the garden carrots, kidney beans, tuna, sunflower seeds, blue cheese dressing. Filled me up and Kept me full! I have worked in the garden all day so I got plenty of moving in today.

Everyone keep up the good work!

Thanks for all the zucchini ideas! They do sound good. I have never tried any of them before, always do the same thing.

Don't go beating yourselves up for any slips that have occured. Obviously, we all know what we have to do to stay in shape and if some days we don't do it...the world keeps turning. So, start new again and leave the guilt behind! We celebrate our progress and forgive our missteps here!!

Very well said Marianne. That is all that any of us can do is just take it one day at a time.

I got on the scales this morning to see what was going on and I was pleasantly surprised "205"! Now I know that is alot but when I started this journey it was ALot more!! My first goal was to be below 200 on the 4th of July. And my gosh, I just might make it.

I walked this morning with the dogs and dh. Did some gardening from 11 till 2 and have been doing inside work since. We are not eating till around 8pm. But it will be a salad again like last night with all the "stuff" on it. I just might take a walk this evening after dark if I can motivate dh to go along.

Marianne,
I've made a pasta dish with zucchini, walnuts and hot red pepper flakes (garlic too I think). I'll have to look up our recipes later. I also make a large pan of roasted vegetables with zucchini. For a lower calorie dessert we make banana-zucchini brownies. Something similar to this recipe: http://www.thegraciouspantry.com/clean-eating-zucchini-bread/

Update on us: went on a 6 mile bike ride, down 13 pounds now. Not sure on what hubby has lost yet. We may go on a 10 mile bike ride tonight.

Last night I made a quesadilla recipe from Clean Eating's site. It was so good (and healthy). http://www.cleaneatingmag.com/Recipes/Recipe/Chicken-Spinach-Ricotta-Quesadillas.aspx

I fell off the wagon and got back on Weight watchers. The new system did NOT work for me so I went back to using the old system of theirs that has worked. It is coming off. I have lost a little over three pounds in 1 1/2 weeks. I was motivated when I got out the summer clothes. So this seems to be the only thing that I can stick with. Keeping track of my eating. I do eat much healthier this way and don't do so many carbs. Hope all is going well for everyone!

O, a trouble's a ton or a trouble's an ounce,
Or a trouble is what you make it!
And it isn't the fact that you're hurt that counts,
But only--how did you take it?

Welcome Wendy and Pam!! The more the merrier or is it misery loves company! Some of us have the focus on weight loss, some of more stamina, everyone is looking for better health! It all seems to go hand in hand.

Thanks for all the zucchini ideas. Of course, our hail storm this week all bit destroyed my little plants. Fingers-crossed they will make it.

Kristina, those brownies sound great! When don't brownies sound great? You really are putting some miles on your bike. Good for you.

Denise, it sounds like you found the system for you.

Kim, I KNOW you are gonna hit your fourth of July goal. I will be checking on the fourth for a big post from you ... in all caps!

I've got a big weekend planned. My dd and her SO are coming for Father's Day. It will be so nice to have them.

we always liked Italian squash, which was zucchini,(or any summer squash) onions, bell peppers, sauteed in a little olive oil, than simmered with crushed tomatoes, italian herbs and some chili powder or if you like it hot (like I do some cyan)
