Hi everyone,
I hit the Pilates a bit too vigorously yesterday and PAID FOR IT. Just a bit tender in the arthritic hips. Not one of those "I'm so awesome! I worked out and now I'm sore." kind of tender. More like the "darn, I'm getting old" kind of sore. My fault obviously, but frankly working out felt good. All stretching and everything working like it should, until a bit later ...
Other than, I am hanging in there.
Who else is still hanging in there? marianne
Oh well, a bit of a lighter workout today, I suppose. |

I can't believe I just signed up for a challenge at my gym. It's six weeks long and it's all about the change in look and measurements, not so much about the weight. My trainer thinks I really have a chance at winning...$1000.00!!!!! Oh boy, I'm so nervous, but kind of excited. He's said he's really going to up the workout part of it, but it's the eating part that is really slowing me down. A couple of my friends said for me to text them before I eat anything so they can help me out in that area. I may do that. I get so frustrated because I just can't seem to keep in control.
I still have at least 50 - 60 pounds to lose so hopefully this will be the kick in the rear I need to get it moving.

All right Wendy, you need to win that thousand bucks for all of us -- I don't meean to share it, I mean "for" us. You can do it. Everytime something sounds good to eat think how much fun you will have spending $1,000. What would you do with it?
I'm in your corner! Go for it. Marianne |

Kristina...I agree on the breakfast thing. It kind of sets the tone for our whole day. We haven't done cereal on a long time, but we homeschool so we have more time in the morning. It just feels good to start the day with something filling and sustaining. Although, I have to watch myself with it. Yesterday, I made some yummy coffee cake and only intended to have a small piece. Sigh...intentions. This morning is oatmeal. I love it and it's much easier to keep the portion amount to what I should be eating.

I just ordered a really nice pedometer from Amazon. I can't wait to start using it. Instead of walking at home after work, when I don't have time, I take a break and walk in downtown KC during the day at work. What I don't know is exactly how far I'm walking and this little pedometer measures regular as well as aerobic/fast paced steps!

The pedometer is awesome. I didn't realize what it would take to get me to 10,000 steps and even though I lead a pretty active lifestyle, I find myself thinking up ways to get those extra steps in to meet my goals and to make sure that each day has more steps than the previous day.

I have been spending a lot of time outside with our labrador who has limitless energy. It has been cold -- you know how just keeping warm uses a BUNCH of calories! And walking in snow...even more energy used. You would have thought I had disappeared by now!!

can I join in here ? I need to lose a little weight but more importantly get my knees strengthened so I can have some pain relief. I went back to the surgeon , did another mri to find ...nothing..just some small areas of osteoarthritis so I am starting this week to exercise specifically for my knees. thought I would try yoga also and when they feel better, walking and the stationary bike. hopefully that might whittle the belly down a little too. it's hard to exercise when you hurt

Hi Patricia...I just wanted to encourage you on the knee pain stuff. I used to have quite a bit of pain in my knees. I had an immune system disorder that mimicked lupus when I was in my early 20's and it did it's damage. I've been amazed that the more I've been exercising, losing weight and strengthening my muscles, I've had so much less pain. I was actually kind of scared to really get going with it thinking that it would bring the pain back, but it hasn't.
And for my own check in: I weighed in today at 201.2. I'm so close to that first big goal of seeing the first number in my weight be a 1. Hopefully by the end of this week.

I haven't checked in here in a long time, happened to see this thread and you hit me where it hurts, Patricia! I am the same age as you, tore my meniscus last spring, went for repair and was told that I need both knees replaced! Not wanting that done at this point, too many horror stories heard from others who have had it done, although I know lots who have had it done with no problems. anyway, I need to get back moving and losing. surgeon said do not gain anymore weight and what do I do?? gain 10 lbs! Will be checking back in here more often now. Also, congrats on being so close to going under 200, Wendy! thanks, ladies! Pam |

I'm afraid that is in my future and it scares me. Today has been so painful but the cold came back to NE Ohio and that just kills my knee. Ah an excuse to move to Arizona ! but I want to lose at least 10 pounds and get back to exercising. |

Patricia, Those braces made out of wetsuit material are supposed to keep the joint nice and warm ... might be helpful? But, I agree the weather really makes the aches more noticeable! Hope you are feeling better. Glad to have you checking in with us! Marianne |

Some days being wrapped from head to toe in a heating pad sounds great doesn't it? We had 60 degrees here yesterday - snow may be here on Monday ... It's been quite the winter across the nation, hasn't it! Marianne |
