Do any of you use teething necklaces? I'd love some recommendations!

Our daughter uses one on our grandson and it really helps. She bought it from ebay. Be sure to check that it is real amber.

I've been wondering the same thing! I've heard they work but I don't know anyone personally that has one/used one...

I know lots of folks who used them and loved them. I posted about them sometime ago and got really mixed reviews (mostly from a safety standpoint. Let me see if I can find that thread...http://maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=32617

We didn't end up using them and we had little problem with teething. We did use Hylands or other homeopathic teething tablets, though. I think the necklaces look adorable more than anything!!!!

I wouldn't worry about them being "dangerous" they are supposed to be worn too short to get "caught" on things. And after all there is whole civilizations that wear things around their neck from birth and don't have any large reportings of problems that I know of from it. The key is they are "short" not long dangly things.

I live in Kansas, and the "granola" mommy's all have the amber necklaces, I wanted one but never could get the money up for one. I need to just get to the store and make one myself! You can also though do a bracelet if people are too worried. However, Then that would give baby access to actually chew on it, unlike the short necklaces.

The other thing is.....I must say most the granola mom's I know don't leave their babies alone, they even sleep with them. And well I think they would be right there if something were to go wrong with the necklace. but, that's just my opinion.

I think any "real" amber is supposed to work, has no "essential" oils as one of the posters was worried about in the other thread either. Amber is dry, it's kind of the same premises of magnets for arthritis. Magnets aren't releasing any essential oils! lol

Any way...I am pretty sure you've said you can't go to a LLL meeting where you live? That's where I see all the babies with the amber necklaces.

@Heather, I didn't ever get one--not because I thought it was "dangerous"...just never felt like spending the $$$ on one when she seemed to have little trouble with teething. Almost none, in fact.

yeah they are expensive. Belle has had a little problem with the teething (about 2 weeks) and hyland's has not been on the market the whole time. It was so frustrating. And the Humphry's didn't work for her at all! UHG! I didn't/don't have the money either, but we have a real jewelry making store here that I need to just go and buy the amber myself and make my own. (it's not like Michael's or Joann's it's a REAL jewelry making store, they have real stones, real precious jewels, and semi precious etc and such that they sell there). But, like your Violet it only lasted a few weeks for Belle so I didn't do it. But, Lela she was another story thank goodness we had Hyland's then and it worked for her, but she had a LOT of problems. However, with Belle she got them all at once, and Lela got one at a time, I think that was the difference. We did have a nasty 3 weeks when they all came in at once with Belle, but with Lela it seemed to go on forever, since there was always new ones. lol However, Lela has straighter better looking teeth, poor Belle's looks a bit crowded and like they shouldn't of came in all at once like that! Dunno! lol haha

and yes I understand Jonni that you weren't the one bringing up the danger and such, I just wanted to add to that a bit. lol haha So people would understand what we are talking about. I think when people think of necklace they are thinking dangly thing, and what they are selling for babies is really short, I wouldn't think much different then what say the babies in Africa and such civilizations where from birth.

Hmm. Yeah, we've got one tooth that's starting to poke through, and Annabelle is being a fussypot. I'm debating on also getting a teething necklace for ME. You know-the ones that they can grab and chew on? The amber, supposedly, when warm, leeches an oil that is an anesthetic. (It is just fossilized tree sap) Supposedly it is released in VERY trace amounts-it's not like your baby will have a ring of oil around their necks. I guess it's a homeopathic amount.

Well, Hylands was on the market-but was recalled for some dumb packaging reason-the recall wasn't due to the tabs themselves. Here's the info:

http://www.hylandsteething.com/recall/

I LOVE my Hylands teething tabs! :) They DEFINITELY make a difference. Mango has helped, too. :) I don't know why, but my daughter loves it!

We loved Hylands, too. There was another brand that worked in a pinch (and the packaging was gorgeous) but I always figured, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Hylands has teething tablets available again!!! I do like the Humphrey's too though. Oh, Hylands colic tablets helped my son with his gas (from something I was eating when I was nursing him, still no clue as to what it was though!). I actually took some when I had bad gas pains and they worked for me too! haha they work well!

I was thinking about making my own teething necklace, are there any chain stores that would sell real amber and not the fake stuff?

Humphry's isn't working for us, it is beautiful though, I will have to look for hylands again! I love their colic one too, it always helps my babies as well.

They say that it's still a mystery though if the foods you eat are actually causing problems with your baby or if it's just their digestive system. Good idea on the humphry's from that. I have heard from sources, it's better not to worry yourself over what in "your" diet is causing collic in baby, and just eat healthy and wait for it to go away with baby. Cause there is no solid evidence that it really is the cause of collic in your baby any way. And can cause a mommy to go nuts trying to figure it out and actually malnourish herself in the process! I highly believe with DD2 it was for sure a immature digestive system, she outgrew it by 6 months of age.
