I have a friend who swears by these amber teething necklaces...her little girl, Olive, has worn one since she was 4 months old (purchased on Etsy)...they are knotted after each bead, and are 11.25 inches in length. The concept is this: babies are not to mouth the necklace, they are supposed to reap the healing quality of the amber. It is high in a certain acidity and when the resin bead is warmed (by the body), it releases an oil that provides healing and soothing qualities for all types of ailments, including teething.
Has anyone ever tried this with their little ones, or know of anyone that has? Worth it? Silly, crunchy granola hogwash?
I love and use herbs and tinctures, and I do believe in natural healing and methods, however, some of it can go a bit off course and I'm not sure I buy into it. I trust my friend, but she's also the one who recommended a motherhood forum to me when I was pregnant that was WAAAAAY OUT there, with mothers (and fathers) eating the placentas....(not trying to offend anyone who's done this, it's just not my style ).

I might try it! Owen is teething molars all of the time :( I'm all about granola hogwash. Not a placenta eater, but I let Feng Shui drive me crazy, believe in pranic healing, etc.

I'll have to look through my emails for the "sign in" info, Trish. It was called mother....something. Some of the natural living and organic baby care ideas were wonderful, but then you had some gals that I just couldn't comprehend and they seemed to, often be, the only ones posting--about eating placentas, about sexual practices (trapezes), etc...Then they would argue about who saved the planet more with their methods (ugh...women--anywhere there is more than one, you're in for it! :))...
I found another site after that which was the total polar opposite in which the majority of the ladies posting thought organic and green living choices were a bunch of hogwash and made no bones about telling you so (rather rudely, I might ad) and it was during the election, so politics tainted everything, soooo...I ended up on a forum called Babyandbump from Britain and I fit in just fine. Didn't know it was from the UK until I saw where all the gals were from in their profiles, but it made perfect sense. I'd lived there for a time, and I related to them with such ease--it was soooo nice! A perfect blend of organic lifestyles and holistic concepts, along with great conversations about parenting styles, which MUCH differ from American parents. The only thing I got bummed about reading on the UK forum was how they were all "taking off" for the beginning of their year long, paid maternity leave!!! They couldn't believe we didn't get more than 6-8 weeks and that it wasn't paid.

I have to say that this does not look safe. A baby could get this caught on something and strangle. Anything around a babies neck is not a good idea.

I wondered the same thing, Nancy Jo. That's why I was hoping that someone on here has tried it and could tell me. The size is 11.25 inches, but I'm just not sure. Olive, my friend's little girl only wore hers when she was with her mom, but still. It does make you wonder. Maybe when she's older and more adept with her hands.

My cousin runs a child safety business and this would be a NO NO FOR SURE. It could get tangled in their clothes or bedding, or caught on something as they roll over.

I have given up caffeine for the past few days, and understood it as a necklace I would be wearing, having benefits when I held baby. I ama super paranoid mommy, and really couldn't do it. I wonder if healing qualities would be present if a lump was made into a lamp, like himalayan salt.

Nope, it's the opposite. I see that some mother's wear them, too, but there are some specifically for the infants.
I'm paranoid (not super paranoid) so I'll probably just stick with tylenol and Hyland's drops :)

I am no expert, but I would be very careful using aromatherapy and essential oils on a child under 5 years old unless I got the go ahead from a pediatrician or a holistic healter. Any of the benefits of essential oils for adults are magnified in small children. I would also be concerned with the safety issue of something around a child's neck. JMHO
