I just looked at Effie in detail on your blog, Sunshine, and she's adorable! What a transformation. Nancy Jo - is she a doll from your childhood?

LIBBIE, Yes good ole Effie has been with me for a long time, and she is now an heirloom, sunshine did a great job, she looks even better in person, you can really see the fine stitches. She is much smaller then she appears on the blog. Got her tag today sunshine, thankyou. NANCY JO |

All your work is beautiful, sunshine! Although I do crochet and knit I could not imagine making something as intricate as these creations of yours. Would you concider giving some tips of a good crisp silhouettes? I've been thinking of making them with my kids and yours are wonderful!

I was trained as an artist you have to get used to looking at the edges of things and not all the details inside. These are not like the ones that teachers did when I was in elementary school that are life size these are about 3 inches tall. I remember in elementary school they did some of my older brother at school they put a bright light on one side of him and traced his shadow on white paper then stappeled that to black and cut both out. Way to big in my opionion and not good detail the black faded as well it was construction paper not good.
The scissors I use cost 30.00 each and are special ordered from germany made by dovo ( takes about 3-5 months to get them. I have both curved and straight blades.
I use a special silhouette paper white on the back and black on front a very strange texture to the black almost feels like charcole (sp) dust. Next is lots and lots and lots and lots of practice you will probably fill a few garbage cans full of wast until you get something you like. Easiest way just order them from me on etsy.
Not sure if that was helpful or not. But by all means try it out.

SUNSHINE You seem to be doing a pretty good business with your image cutouts. Where are you getting your customers from? |

I love the dog! Exquisite work as usual, Sunshine. I love hearing that the images are just 3" tall. What a wonderful heirloom. |

I forgot to mention these are not traced or anything. It is like taking a photo, the person is sitting in front of you and you just start cutting the paper. If any of you have been to disneyland it is like the way that they do it just slower. If you have not seen it done it is kind of hard to explain I can do it from photo or real life. I am a little slower than the people at disneyland as they cut them every day 8 hours a day I do it every few months for a few minutes so I am not near as fast as they are.

Thanks for the tips, Sunshine. I'm going to give it a try myself. The results may be laughable, but I'm always up for a new challenge. If I can talk hubby into it, I may make an order in the future.

I posted a picture on my blog of my 7 year olds russian needle punch if you wouldn't mind looking at it and leaving a comment it would mean the world to her. She is one of those kids that thinks older sister always does things better and is real shy. Well older sister is very proud on little sister on this it is going in the school art show in dec. Big sister was sweet and said to her " If there where prizes at this show you would surley win!" I think that was just great a smile from ear to ear. So if you feel so inclined I would greatly appreciate comments amied at making a 7 year old happy the more the merrier so to speak.
thank you for reading this sunshine

Sunshine, How much do you charge for your silhouettes? Since I really don't have any family left, I'd love to have my dog family done. Especially my long gone Australian Shepherd. I know I had a profile picture but with all that's happened over the last winter I'm not sure I still have it. But I could always start with the current group.
