In an email I was asked to I sell this type of work. Yes. This is actually an item I am happy to sell they are $25.00 a piece all I need is a good side profile picture. You can email it to me or post it here or snail mail it. But it needs to be very clear and a very plain back ground like a white wall so I can see the profile well try not to have shadows on the wall as that messes up what I can see. In other words don't stand right next to the wall have a good 3 to 5 feet between it and you.

Sure Nancy I will let you guys know. Not sure if people around here really know what silhouettes are but we will see. In my grandmothers house there are 7 generations of these on the walls. I only have 5 generations on my walls. She also has many more. My oldest are of my Great grandmother that were cut in the 1950's by a traveling silhouette artist that paid for his room and board at their house by cutting silhouettes of the entire family. I have great grand mother, both my grand mother ( a few of her)and grandfather, mother ( a few of those), my husband and children , I still need to do one of myself. Last year for mothers day I did one of every member of my mother inlaws family her kids their spouces, and her grandchildren I think she has about 30 or more of these now. In my house I only cut my husband and my children the others are done by 4 different artist.

I remember when I was little going to Disneyland and my Mom bought sillouettes like this of my brother sister and I (this would be in the early '60's since we were real small) they are neat! You sure do a great job at it!

Sunshine, I saw the quilt block on your blog, it looks really good. Thanks for doing that for us! I will send you an email in the next day or so, we'll see if we can get together! I was hoping to meet before now, but I have been super sick...luckily I am better now. Talk to you soon, and thanks again Kate

I just thought every now and again I would post some of the items my grand mother has made for me as gifts. I put myself throught collage being a florist but she is litterally a master florist and a great folk artist in my opinion. She paints where I don't unles we are talking abstract then I do some. Below are blocks she makes I have been getting them for birthdays holidays graduations weddings any thing you can think of my whole life. So this is only asmall portion of the blocks in our house.

I didn't paint these my grandmother did.

I told her I posted them she said that old kinling. That is what she calls all her painted thing kinling to start a big bon fire when she dies. I told her there wont be much of a glow from earth to heaven because I don't think anyone is going to burn it.

we are good we all have a little hayfever at the moment. So sleeping habits are messed up but other than that we are well. The girls ( older two ) are settling into school. My middle one has decided lunch is pretty cool at school it is something differnt all the time. Novelty not he same old stuff mom makes. The youngest has decided it is ok sisters at school in fact I think she wants to leave them their as she gets more one on one time with mom. You know typical kids great isn't it.

thanks, once again for sharing, sunshine. i love the grandma's "kinling" and your response to her is great. i love the folk art and especially treasures that are from our own families. when my dad retired from being a carpenter, he made childrens toys and gave them away. but my sister and i and our children all have toys that he made. when my mom died she had a wooden jeep he made that was about 65 years old. all of my friends wanted to know, what are you going to do with the jeep. it is the only thing in the house that my sister and i both wanted so i had to trade my moms hope chest and some other things to get to keep the jeep. now it is on my mantle and the grandkids react to it just like my sister and i did when we were little. anyway, i think your grandmas "kindlin" are great treasures! thanks for sharing them. love, fran |
