Imbolc today. DD#2 was born day after Imbolc. I really like its significance in the wheel of the year.

Kim in NC

(PS- Dd#1 was born two days before Samhain... cool wheel dates for my girls.)

Yes, my older daughter has her favorite stones lined up her windowseal bathing in the moonlight. I'll post one of my moon stories here soon to share if anyone would like to read one. I loved the moon last night. I went outside and scooped up snow under the snow moon and it is waiting for me in the freezer for this evening. I plan a very quiet celebration with my daughters and myself and our moon snow. Our snow is all gone. How wonderful that it is an Imbolc snow! G

Kim...how cool about your daughter's birthdays!!!

I use broom! Scotch broom. It's perfect. And Goddess knows we've got enough honeysuckle vines to use around here to wrap the broom to the handles. It makes a nice Lammas craft activity for a little group of friends and the kiddies.

I'm trying to keep up with all this. My dd gave me a "We'Moon" Gaia Rhythms for Womyn daily calendar and I like to read up and really soak it in. It's beautiful too. Lovely prints and poems, stories, etc. And, yes, I see that it is Imbolc and there is a story and a poem. My dd is too cool.

That planner sounds wonderful. I'll have to find it too. I currently have Llewellyns Witch's Date Book for 2007. It has room to write notes, has the daily color, holidays, famous dates and events, moon phases, astrological details etc. Also interviews, articles etc. Love it too.

Here is a link to my blog where I have Grandmother Moon. My mother's heritage is Choctaw and this story is based on a story she told me. If the link doesn't work, just go to my blogs, click on the archives for 2006 and scroll down to May 29, 2006

I hope you enjoy this Moon Story!

The We Moon calendars are at http://www.wemoon.ws/

They're wonderful. I used to use them every year for YEARS. Thanks for the reminder. MaryJane's is lovely for the family, but it's nice to have something completely witchy for ourselves.

Georgann, I don't live too far from Iroquois land, I'm just down the road a ways from Qunicy IL on the missouri side tho. I'm going to have to have one of those planners and a wall calendar. I'm not sure I'm classified as a moon maiden, although I love the sound of that. Not sure what I am really anymore. The hard knocks of life seem to have left me a lil cold and empty as of late and one thing I do know is that I'm tired of sticky, sappy christians with 'perfect' lives and all the answers. That said I do consider myself spiritual but I don't care much for 'religion'. Anyhow I had a couple of questions.

Tasha, you mentioned in a post about sweeping from the North and then clockwise and not after dark. What are the significance of those? The pics of your woods and your property were awesome. What's the significance of the circle? of the fire?

What are these stones that everyone keeps talking about?

Is the moon only considered full on the one night, even though it still looks full again tonight?

What kind of celebrations did you all have for Imbolc?

I love the Native American ways and feel kindred to that even though I do not think I am of that blood. Just by looking at me it's pretty obvious I have scottish roots. I can't think of anymore questions at the moment, but I'm sure I"ll have more later. I am so bored to tears at work!! ugh! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Blessings....
Sarah

Sarah, I am an Earth sign and as such, North is my significant direction, so I start from the North, I should add, however, that when I am on my Moon time I start at the West, but still going clockwise for the positive energy. I don't after dark because I just don't. I never ever sweep my kitchen after dark. the Sun is not out lending light and energy I suppose...wow, thanks for making me think about why I do it!!

Various stones carry various strengths. grace is our family stone picker outer....she seems to have a knack for it, for whatever we need a stone for. The only time I choose stones is if there is one I need for a ritual or spell that we don't already have, or for grounding stones in different parts of the house. The girls both have gorunding stones in their bedrooms, for instance, grace has a clear quartz and Zoe has a smokey quartz....The Full Moon is a good time to charge them with energy from the Moon. Think of it this way...as the Moon gets full, anything you are doing in magick shoul dbe something you would like to see more of, or gain...as is wanes it is wise to deal with things you want to be rid of.

We did not have a celebration for Imbolc this year. We got super busy yesterday and today, though we did mark the Moon as usual and leave things we needed to charge basking overnight.

Oh! and the fire was the fire I had lit when I did a binding ritual last Summer.

The Moon is full at whatever time and after that it is waning. last night I think it was 9:24 pm that it was full. at 9:25 is was waning. any increasing magick should be completed by 9:24. waning magick, in my opinion and experience is best done during the Dark Moon, that is, the three days prior to it being New. Then when it is New, it is time for increasing magick again, make sense?

Thanks Tasha, yes that makes sense. I am really trying to get rid of negative energy and focus on positive. Trying to change my ways I guess.

Oh, on my previous post I did not mean to offend anyone, I do not mean to bash on Christianity. Just my own sour experience surfacing and being negative.

I've always been able to stand next to someone or be in a close vacinity and feel them, so to speak. As whether they are good or bad, or if I'll like them or not, just kind of like reading their energy I guess. I used to have deja vu all the time where I would have dreamed things and not remembered the dream till it happened.

Yall have sparked my interest. I'm going to have to learn more about all of this.

Blessings....

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is meant by charging things with energy of the moon? I'm not sure I'm asking this the right way. But what do you do with that energy? Is it magickal?

I also find it interesting how alot of Christian holidays began as pagan holidays. I had heard that from a church before but thought they were full of it. This gets more interesting as it goes.

Blessings....

sarah, in essence, yes, it lends power to them....I encourage you to take a couple of months and pay attention to the Moon daily and it's effect on you and those around you. I am sure you will notice that just like the Moon, we wax and wane....Specifically for you, watch your blood cycle with the Moon...you will probably find that when the Moon is at a certain place in Her Cycle, so are you...

So that is why it lends power...it has such an enormous effect on everyone and everything we do, most people just don't realize it.

I did not realize this posting of mine had attracted so many with interest! Sarah, the moon is a wonderful thing! As the moon is getting full (waxing) you can attract good things to you, such as abundance, love etc, when it is waning you can banish things from you life such as bad habits etc.
I love the moon! Why not try to find a good book on the moon like Moon Magic - if you hope on over to http://www.llewellyn.com you will find scads of books on all kinds of interesting topics.
There are two wonderful new books I have on being a nature based green witch you all might like
The Way of the Green Witch by Arin Murphy-Hiscock
Craft of the Wild Witch - by Poppy Palin

Are there other Nature/Green witches out there?
