Hi Guys - I was attracted to School of the Seasons but was not looking for an education in any sort of magic - I am a witch by instinct if that makes any sense. I enjoy reading a vast majority of books on the craft but follow my own true sense of self. I was disappointed with the material from that particular site (I only ordered one season to get a feel for it) and had imagined it would be contain more useful material but I found it to be bland. So.....Georgann is totally right here!

Hiya Ladies,

I'm seeking some advise. I need to make 15 small items that will be part of a collective gathering of homemade goods to be placed into an Ostara basket that will be distrubuted amoung a group of children, my two included. Basically, the items have to be something simple, a classic sort of item(think Waldorf) something the child can play with, and Ostara or spring related. I'm hoping to come up with something that will not be too difficult to produce is this volume, and it has to be kind of small, as everyone that is involved in this exchange will be also making something and then a basket will be made up for each child with all of the items.

Ideas?

Thanks Ladies and Many Blessings,

J

What are the children's ages? And is this a mixed-religion group, or Nature-based spiritual paths?

The majority of the children involved are in the 4-8 range. I believe it is mixed-religion, so I don't want to go with anything overtly pagan - but really anything that represents Ostara would be suitable I think.

Needle-felting isn't something I've learned to do yet - on the list! I do LOVE the Spring Gnome idea - but I think they will be well covered because many of the Mom's involved in this are WAHMamas who make toys, and gnomes are a hot item with them.

Thanks Ladies,

J

Lambs have symbolic importance to Jews, Christians and Pagans at this time of year. There's a plant called lamb's ears that lends itself to being stitched into leaves made from some kind of pale silvery-green plush fabric. How about making little pendants in the shape of a lamb's ear leaf, attached on a satin chord to be worn as a unisex necklace? Maybe the leaf could be sewn with a pocket open on the back side to tuck in a one-word wish or prayer. The children could write their own words on little slips of tracing paper that you could supply, or you could do it yourself, with something sweet already written, different for each child. They could compare.

Good afternoon fellow pagan farmergirls. I love this site! I will post more after I read the rest of the thread, which is forever long! I am excited to do MayDay baskets this year. I was going to do them last year and time just came up too fast!

Not this time Rosemary! =) It's a brilliant idea! I'll post a picture when I'm done. I found some materials today that I think will work.

Thanks so muck again.

Hmmm....has anyone considered that we could make an online Farmgirl Branch.....we could call ourselves: Gardensprites or something or another. We could set up an online meeting blog or something......although this one is working fine! Just a thought.

That's a loverly idea, but I also think it's nice that we're right out here in public, where those still capable of believing what they see with their own eyes will find out that we're perfectly harmless. Oh sure, some will still think we're deluding ourselves about that while tredding the path to hellfire and damnation, but when I feel beset by such folk, to paraphrase what one of our Founding Farmgirls says, a nice piece of pie usually fixes me right up.

Hiding so much is giving some of us hives.

Let's do both!

With Saint Patrick's Day fast approaching, I want to make a tee-shirt with a nice green Celtic-knot pentacle and the words "He didn't get ALL of us!"

But I suspect what I'll do instead, given how little free time I've had lately, is simply look forward to celebrating March 15 as "All Snakes Day."

Just wondering if you all have a favorite Goddess you feel akin to and if so, why?

As I reflect on my favorite Goddess when I was a child and read everything I could on her, it would have to be Minerva. She was my favorite. So I guess that is a kinship with her. I always thought she was the goddess of War, but come to find out she is also the goddess of wisdom and medicine! Hmm....

I meant March 17th, of course, for All Snakes Day. Mine went great. Hope yours did, too. ;-)

Favorite Goddess? We have a huge pantheon; She's whomever we need her to be whenever we need her -- rather like ourselves, only with money in the bank and every dish put away within HOURS of the last fabulous home-cooked meal. How I long to be more like her!

My personal favorite Goddess is Everywoman.

About the favorite goddess-

When I was a kid, my dad got me a gorgeous book about Greek Mythology. I really identified with Athena-I think in the book she seemed like a tomboy, like me. So, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for her.
Also, Hestia-goddess of the Hearth.
