I got my copy of Sister Moon Lodge in the mail last week also. Very interesting!! I have two young daughters and this is such a different look at the cycle. I am so pleased to find something like this. Oh, my hubby thinks that the use of the word: herstory for the history of women is ridiculous! G

I picked up a Magickal Herbs book from Lewelleyns and in it there is something that talks about burning cloves. How in the world do you get cloves to burn? I tried it and they wouldn't light.

Sarah, We have that book too. I think there is a caution about how cloves are highly combustible so use with caution. I could be wrong though. I think I through a teeny pinch of ground gloves in the fireplace and they basically went poof!! It might have been a different herb. My brain feels like a flattened egg right now!! Oh, check out my new old fabrics on my blog!! I'm so excited to get cutting and sewing again. Work weekends really suck the life out of me...later...

Geogann...I feel for you, I know about that sucking the life out of ya thing. I'm gonna go check out your fabrics. Oh and that book didn't say anything about cloves doing that. Thanks for the info, I'll be much more careful next time i try to burn them.
Oh girls, I made a post about this website www.primalpotter.com
This woman also makes 'moon pots' for soaking your moon pads in. The ones she has listed are sold out but I thought you may like to look and check them out.
Blessings.... Sarah

Blessings, all! How could it be that I've let 21 pages whiz past without contributing my two cents?
I'm a Neo-Pagan, a practicing Witch for a little over 45 of my almost 60 years. Over this time, I've evolved through various aspects of Nature-based spirituality, always studying, questioning and studying some more. On my path, I've been blessed by wonderful friends whose work in the Pagan community has enriched and inspired me.
I love my old tools. Hardly ever use them now, but they are precious to me. I do most of my rituals outdoors, at a small bonfire or, if with friends, a nice big one, but I do love to curl up at my altar to meditate, correspond with the Goddess and God, or, when it's needed, for divination. Sometimes I go through my old witchy journals, (I dislike the term "book of shadows" for a variety of reasons), to see where I've been along the way to here. It can be an astonishing way to see yourself, if you haven't really looked in a long time.
Comment about (or, if she's here, to) Buttercup and other seekers after the truth, as they wish to define it for themselves. Any religion that rules your heart through fear is abusing you. Begin to break through that fear by allowing yourself to know, and more importantly to understand -- for they aren't the same thing -- that you have the perfect right to question everything people say you must believe in order to be considered worthy in their eyes. Every single thing. Including what I just said.

Ok girls, I'm back with another question. That is if the wind doesn't blow my house away tonight. sheesh, some winter storm. Anyhow, would someone mind explaining what chakras are? I've read some on them but it still doesn't quite all fit.
Also, in my quest of surfing to try to put off chasing down a wet boy fresh out of the bath tub with a towel, lol, I ran across this website. It talks some of natural birthing, breast feeding, parenting, alternative learning, simple living and spirituality. I thought it may be something some of you find interesting. http://www.motherspirit.net/ http://www.motherspirit.net/articlesindex.htm

I'm wary of anyone who offers to teach Witchcraft for money, especially without any kind of personal contact or screening at either end of the transaction. This is very distressing to me, especially when I see signs that the "teachers" lack the fundamental scholarship required to instruct others. No other religion on earth tolerates this. On the rare occasions when some religious leader turns out to be a charlatan, only out to fleece the faithful, condemnation comes swiftly. Why should Pagans have less noble expectations of their elders? I believe there are lots of people out there hoping to cash in on the eagerness of innocents in a world that offers too few opportunities for grounded study of Pagan beliefs and practices. We must all take care of each other in this. |

The site is clearly Pagan in nature (pardon the pun). None of the Pagan spiritual traditions requires magical work as an element of its practice, although that's often the case, just as lighting candles and praying at the base of the Blessed Virgin icon in their church, or saying part of the Rosary every night before bed, are important parts of Catholic practice for some, but not all, Catholics.
While at least not offering to teach people how to cast love spells and other such manipulative nonsense, the School of the Seasons people are basing their system on the conflation of Mediterranean and Celtic seasons that many modern Pagans have accepted as an eight-spoked wheel of the year. (Asidem: I do wish they'd decide on Gaellic versus Latin and Greek spellings, though.)
Something that concerns me is that they seem to have similarly conflated the folk traditions of many different cultures without suggesting that the student pause to consider what they represent, or whether these customs are appropriate for the individual student seeking a more rooted relationship with Mother Earth. Are they just trying to cast as wide a 'Net as possible? <feel free to groan!>
That said, I've seen worse. Much worse. But, you know...caveat emptor and all that. Just because it's pretty doesn't mean it's good for you ;-) |

A good friend of mine, ordered one of their seasonal packet and said she was very disappointed with it. She said, "I know all of this information and could have put together a nicer packet." Their website is beautiful, but I think the woman says that she is closing her classes somewhere on the website. I could be totally wrong here! G

Coming into this topic with no real knowledge of Pagan/Earth-based traditions, I am curious as to whether there is any significance to tomorrow night's lunar eclipse? (I have been paying much closer attention to moon phases over the past year or so, since I finally went off "the pill" in an effort to let my body get back to its own natural rhythms.) There should be pretty good viewing conditions here, so I'm looking forward to seeing it. |
