I have 10 caps made so far. I am one of those avid crochet-knitting- loom knitting lovers who makes baby hats and Fashion Flair chemo caps all year long. So making these caps is just one more delightful way, on top of the baby items that I make for "Stitches from the Heart;" organization and my own Ravelry group "Hearts of Love", to stitch with love and be able to help others with love and comfort.

While I knit and crochet, I have selected to crochet all my caps. I am faster as a crocheter and crocheting is my first love. I am selecting colors that can be for both boys or girls. Crocheting does use up more yarn than knitting. In additiono to RED HEART WW yarn, I also enjoy using Vanna's Choice Yarn and Vanna's Baby Choice Yarns, both of which work nicely for this project in attractive and cheerful colors and are both worsted weight yarns.

Theresa, if I send my caps to you for the photos, you would still have to send them along on their way. As someone who mails alot, that adds up in cost. Might it be helpful to take photos of our caps and share them and send them ourselves which saves you the extra cost?

Teresita,
Wow, you rock! I'm so glad to have you on board! I crochet and knit as well, but crochet is my first love and my go-to for most creations. I love Vanna's Choice Baby as well. Here we have Hobby Lobby stores that carry there own brand called "I Love This Yarn!" and of course, I do love it!

I'm ok with the shipping expense of sending in all the hats at once, but of course you may do as you choose. I thought it might be fun to see ALL the hats together.

I can't believe many caps we'be got so far! Hooray!

Theresa,

Thank you for your welome and all that you are doing with this forum. I wish we had Hobby Lobby stores here in California but not yet. It sure would be nice.

I also wanted to tell you that I love your signature and the way that Louis Armstrong sang all his songs including most especially "What a Wonderful World."

Well, I am ot nearly where all of you are!! But I hope to be mailing several anyway! As I do a cap, cannot help but pray and think about what little head will be under the hat? Enjoy our knitting/crocheting ladies.

Blessings, Linda

I too pray with each cap Linda, and hope my prayers will be answered to protect these little ones we are making hats for. Yes Theresa I am using up a huge stash, I want to reduce the many totes of half skeins I have and what better way to do it. My goal is to quit at 100 so that is what I am shooting for by the end of January.

With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.

I also pray while crocheting the caps. Crochet in itself is so meditative and spiritual for me, one of the few times in the day when my hectic brain slows and clears. To think of these tiny baby heads covered in warmth AND prayers makes me so happy! Thank you all so much for being a part of this!

PS: I think I've got all the totals updated to this point.

I have gotten to a dozen ( adding 2 more to my previous 10 = 12 total). This was my goal. I'll be off now to work on my other projects that are waiting for me, including the "Special Olympics 2011 USA Scarf Project" and my ongoing Chemo Caps for my local cancer center.

I enjoyed being a part of this 2011 Caps for Good and appreciate what Theresa is doing and all the Farmgirls here. Glad to have been a part of this kindness.

I found this project to be delightful for using my our scraps and combining them into lovely hats. I like creating my crocheted caps with 2 colors that contrast or complement with vibrance and love.

Teresita,

Thank you SO much for your contribution to our first quarter project! It's been so nice to "meet" you and we seem to have much in common (I'll be working on the Special Olympic scarves soon too!).

It has been a pleasure too meeting you as well. I'll be sending off my caps to you next week. I'll just need to get your address. I'll be looking forward to seeing you around here on Mary Jane's farm in the days ahead.

For those of you who haven't actually viewed the pdf document linked in the initial post . . .

there is a printable tag they would like to have attached to each little cap.

Let me know if you can't access the pdf for any reason!

Keep up the great work!

I enjoy taking a pattern and adding my own personal sprinkling of love and imagination to a pattern. I guess that's the Farmgirl designer in me.

I thought I'd share with our Farmgirls here what I have been doing with my crocheted caps.

Using the pattern for the "Caps for Good 2011 PDF" along with
Size h hook and 2 skeins of WW Red Heart Yarn (Color A and Color B):

Rows 1-5
Follow Pattern in Color A

Rows 6-7 Sc in Color B

Row 8 Dc in Color B

Row 9 Sc in Color B

Row 10 Dc in Color B

Row 11 Sc in Color B

Row 12
Dc in color B

Rows 13-14 Sc in color B

Row 15 Using color B, ch 1, turn and Sc around. End Off.

I select 2 shades of yarn that compliment each other or make a nice contrast. The changing stitch gives a nice texture and still comes out with the dimensions of the original pattern.

Enjoy

About those tags..... Well, the Designer Farmgirl in me decided to make them a little more special than those PDF tags in the kit. I found my own tag paper already printed as in for invitations, cropped them to size appropriate, used my heart punch to add hearts on the side of the tag and then handwrote my own messages in a colored ink which I will be attaching to the caps that I have made.

Presentation is everything to me! How I present my caps means a lot to the receiver and will leave a happy memory to cherish.

I'm just getting everything tagged and ready to send out my box of 12 caps to Theresa by tomorrow. I'm running a tad late on sending out the things that I'd like to send out this week.

I am also continuing to make additional caps that will be added to the total for our Farmgirls. You can add 6 more caps to our total. This box I will send directly to "CAPS FOR GOOD" as I'd like to put California on the map.....

Here's the map....

Here's an awesome video to inspire Farmgirls to make more CAPS for GOOD and indeed save a life! I enjoy telling my friends who are knitters and crocheters as well and inviting them to make some caps for the countries of Asia, Africa, and Latin America that will be the recipients of these hats.

Loved seeing that video . . . I'm a crochet girl at heart, however I may now have to try making a cap with my daughters Nifty Knitter!
