Well, I blew it. Didn't walk yesterday. My husband's been sick since we've come home & took him into urgent care. He has an ear infection along with a sinus infection. The ear one is esp painful as he has a hole in his ear drum (an injury from a plane trip many yrs ago) along with only one good working nostril, so even the sinus infection is really painful. Doc called me yesterday to say that I need to lower my LDL (??) for heart & stress by, yes girls, walking!! I told her I've just started back (thanks to Kris!), so now I really need to be diligent. She said that 15 min to start with is okay, but wants it to be 45 min/day... I don't know where I'm going to literally find that kind of time. I've always joked with my kids that if I could buy a big ol' box of time at Costco, I would. I call my walks, "Walking w/Kris" . Yes, Han! Please join us sweet lil sis!! The more the merrier! Judy, I loved the story of the bunny. Got a good laugh about the fan. You're great with the description... could totally picture it! You gals are great! Well, I best be giving my son his spelling test and run some errands. Maybe I'll switch to walking in the mornings, too, if I can get my oldest to look after my toddler.

Judy, so glad you had fun at the fair. I can hardly wait for ours now. There is a lady that brings all her goats and lets people milk them. There is always a crowd around that one.

Jewel, that's a good reason to not walk. So don't be hard on yourself, ok? We all understand. Life happens and we have to deal with other things. That's what my doctor said last year. I had some blood drawn for some reason and my cholesterol came back a little high. She wanted to put me on meds but I said no. She said I could control it by excercising and eating right. So why did it take me so long to do it? Oh, also by taking fish oil. So I did that right off. That was the easiest thing to do! But the most expensive. I won't take anything unless it's organic so it costs more. So I will be anxious to see what my LDL is next time I go in. And my weight. She should be happy. I feel so good when I read about what you are doing. I feel like I am a part of your day now. Thank you so much for thinking of me. I will be thinking of you also and wishing you were really here. So do you homeschool? I hope your hubby gets over all his issues. What a mess. I know the poor guy is miserable.

So YAY us! I am so proud of all of you guys! I just can't wait to check in here and see what everyone has been doing. It makes my days so much happier to see what all we are accomlishing here for us. We should record all the miles we are walking and see how many so far. I have missed 3 days so far. The 14th was in Atlanta meeting MJ. The 19th I was hurting and had no good shoes. The 24th was meeting with DD and her soon to be MIL to talk about wedding plans.

Didn't walk yesterday. You all are doing good, keep it up. Helped hubby with cutting brush on the back side of our pond.A huge 120 foot pine had fallen into the stream that feeds the pond and limbs needed cut off some to make it easier to mow around the pond. Been out there today cutting more small trees and brush down. What a mess, but hey, it's exercise, one way or tuther..may walk after it cools down later..85 and humidity makes it hard to breathe.
We live at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, so living in a forest is interesting.

Make my words soft and tender, for I may have to eat them. :)

so, you all are walking or something to get/stay in shape. I am fat! I still have curves but they are big ones. I have so wanted someone to hold me accountable to walk - I even have a treadmill - I am not lazy - am a hard worker but exercise is just hard to do for ones self. Can I try with you - I have failed miserably by myself. I may fail with you........miss kris

Ok....I'm to pooped to pop It took me 2 hours to sweep up all that cat hair in Mom's old apt.I love her cat but I'm sure glad we had him shaved last week. He's a long hair and it's thick. We had him shaved once before and wondered how he'd act. He got use to it real fast. He was much cooler, even playful in hot weather....hmmmmm....wonder what I'd feel like with 1/8 in hair. hahahahaha Then she gave me her old catbox cause she bought a new one, so guess who got to wash that out? So I gave it to our cat and washed his out. I was just pooped, no other word for it. I hit the shower and here I am. So, ya, I think any kind of workout will do some days. I'm not going to be so hard on myself if I miss a day or two of walking, or eat some pizza.*snicker* Life happens. We want this to be fun, or none of us will enjoy it! Right? It will become a chore real fast! Like I said before, I'm just glad to see so many of us (trying) to walk, caring for ourselves, encouraging each other. I'm just really 'lovin this thread. Gals helping Gals! It just makes sense. Keep it going Gals! Jewel, I'll add you both to my prayer list!

May I join you too? For years I walked an hour or more almost every day for exercise. Then I had back problems, and my walking partner, my mom, had some health problems, and I got lazy and life got in the way - so there are my excuses. I have continued to walk for exercise some for the last few years, but can't seem to get that rhythm of going for a walk every day back. I really need some accountability and I'm hoping posting here can help. I'm hoping to get in at least 30 minutes 6 days a week at first, working up to 45 minutes to an hour or more at least a few times a week. You have all really inspired me to try to be more consistent!

You go Kris. You are helping a lot of ladies here. I have just read everyones in put took some time. Some years back I to reached my heavest weight. 180 lbs. I said never again. I started walking and I am 56 years young. First a mile then 2 sometimes up to 5 a day when weather is do able. I to have the heat you have here in Virginia. The good thing was that when my dh saw how good I was doing he joined me. We both lost weight he is 63. His dr's. even stopped some of his meds. His cholesterol and blood pressure inproved. With all the exercise you do not what to eat as much as before. I just love food no sweets. Well I am still working on the weight but am down to a 150 and holding. I am up at 6am walking and the evenings as well. We do walk the dog "Rowdy" really that is his name. When he doesn't get walked when he thinks it is time he gets one of us and just cries, and jumps all over us. We know that he is right we need to walk. So like some of the other ladies don't stop it is a easy and cheap thing to do. I wear New Balance shoes of walkers they are not cheap. It does make a difference. Also some years ago I had bunons removed and the dr said always use wide toe shoes. Which the runner told you it is called the toe box. Change out your shoes every 3 to 4 months for the health and care of your feet. I do hope you legs get better never had that one. I am praying for all you ladies for it is a hard thing to do. Lilly keep it up you will see hope the wedding goes well it will be over in no time.

Kris and Michele, come on!! Let's get to walking ya'll! Or whatever feels right for you at this time. I am fat too and tired of it. I would like to lose at least 50 pounds. I am tall so it's all around the middle of me and I am so tired of it. Plus I want to stay healthy because we can't afford for me to be sick. I am also doing this for my granddaughters. The oldest one espacially. When she says she never wants me to die, what can I do? So I am doing this for them so I can be around forever. She may regret that when she's a teenager and I am in her face all the time! We'll see. So ya'll jump on in and let us know how you are doing. I like to post every day for myself and also to keep on getting that MUCH needed encouragement form all you farmgirl friends.

Patsy, you did a really good workout already! That farmwork and tree cutting and loading and all that is very good excercise. So I say that's a workout for the day. Now you can take a nice long shower or bath and take a break. Good for you! And I know hubby loves you all the more for your help. What could be better than that?

Kris, I am not lazy either. I am always doing something around here. I am walking all over these 3 plus acres for some reason or other. Sometimes it's chasing cows or goats. Fixing fences. Dragging brush. Lots of bending and lifting. I am so glad you want to join in on this also. It's so good to have you and I hope we can all be an encouragement to you on your journey.

Judy, are you talking about your hubby? And pizza is good. I was looking at a blog the other day and she was making a zucchini crust for a pizza. It looks like the zuc patties but bigger. Then she put cheese and veggies on it. I want one. I love pizza. And I agree with all the other things you said. Let's not be too hard on ourselves if we miss a day. We can do other things too. Like when I got home awhile ago I have to feed the masses or they will eat me. I have a lot of walking to do. I had to fill all the water troughs and bowls and things. So I walked a little faster. I feel better. i did walk this morning too.

Michele, I have walked over the years also. And something would happen and I'd get out of the habit. It really is a life change. I think I am at the point in my life where I NEED to do this. It is good for me to do. I want to feel good about me. I want to be healthy for me. So you are on the right track. I hope we can all help you to get back on and get back in the habit. Find the time that works best for you and go from there. Have fun. Notice little things along the way. I always see something I didn't see the day before. Or the color of the mountain is different. So here ya go! Let us know how you're doing, ok?

It's so good to have so many of you farmgals! I am lovin' this. But I need more addresses please. Like you new girls.

I have to admit something. I am a bread-a-holic. I love bread. Any bread. All bread. I have been making whole wheat bread for years now. With the whole wheat berries that I grind and all that. But sometimes I want something different. I love sourdough bread. I have started a sourdough starter and have made 2 loaves so far. I made grandmother bread yesterday and half the loaf is gone already. I am the only one here right now. It's not a big loaf. And I have been reading alot about kefir sourdough. I made some last week. It needs some work. But it will be good for me. I try to tell myself that. It's good for me. The sourdough bread is. Really. I just need to eat a little less bread. But I love bread. Thanks for listening.

Kris

Hi everyone, Glad you are joining in Channah! Dave and I are walking every morning on an inside track in our new Recreation Building in town. It is air conditioned and will be heated in the winter. Hopefully when the weather gets a little cooler, we will walk at the park outside. Much more to see and hear! However, the track has lots of people walking and that is fun to see and talk to them as we go by them or they go by us! We look forward to going every morning - we feel better the rest of the day!
Happy walking/exercising - what ever you are doing to move - keep going girls!

Now that my son is back in school and I've changed my work schedule to get off at 1 every week day, I'm back to working out at the gym. I'm putting in an hour+ each day. As the weather cools I'm going to start taking my evening walks again as well.

Best of luck to everyone on sticking with their exercise programs!

Lillian, I did not see your post. That is so neat about your hubby having to take less meds now because of the excercising. And for you losing so much. You are doing great! I took my dog Bubba a few times with me but it's too much trouble for me to worry about him. And plus he hates being outside in the heat and it just makes the poor dog miserable. Maybe when it gets cooler I'll take him to the cove.

I already think I need some really good shoes. Something about my left foot. It's just not right. It feel better on the way back. I guess because it's more uphill. I don't know. It has helped a little having the tennis shoes but really not too much with the left shin. I had to go slow yesterday.

Hey Ruth. You and hubby are doing great. Had you been walking before or did ya'll just start too? It sure does make ya feel better. I love how I am feeling anymore. Not so tired. And I am able to cross my legs easier! It was getting hard to lift my right leg over my left leg for a long time. It's weird how certain things just happen and I have no idea when but it did. And I don't like it. I hope ya'll have a great day and get lots of walking in. My rag rug is growing! I work on it a little each day. If it starts looking like a bowl am I supposed to decrease the 3 at the ends? Or increase? I can't remember. I have been just adding 2. It looks better now. And I have to stretch it all the time. Hopefully when it's on the floor it will lay flatter.

Dawn, I always loved when my kids went back to school and I could get back to "normal" again. Really doing what I wanted to do again. So good for you! It sounds like you have a good plan already.

Judy, that was kinda strange. I thought maybe I had missed something somewhere. So it was a cat. That's much better. But I really thought it was your poor hubby you had shaved!

I think I like the evening walk better for some reason. Maybe because I have already gotten into the habit. It's much quieter in the mornings. But as it gets darker earlier I will have to go earlier and the traffic will be better. So I think I will stick to evening. Maybe some mornings. It is getting cooler here! It was only 85 yesterday! Yay! I love the cooler temps. And no humidity. Although yesterday after my morning walk I could not get cool. Then I had to go to my parent's new house and stand in the sun and water. Then their house was really hot. So I was sweating and never could get cool after that. So when I got home I turned the AC to 76 and almost froze. But I was cool then.

Ya'll have a great day!

Kris

'Mornin Gals! I got up to 70, and a very cool breeze. As I sit here typing to you in front of my North window, I have goose-bumps. But I'm not willing to lower the window, remembering that humid spell we just came thru. I'm like ya'll, I'm loving it! Fall is just around the corner Gals.I feel it in my bones!
I have laundry to do, so I'd better get to it. Now that Mom is moved and I'm finished cleaning up her old place, I can get back to "normal" too Kris.....whatever that entails.
Make it a GREAT day Gals!

OMG, sweet potatoes! I had forgotten I planted a whole row of them. I am going out to see if there are any yet. Thanks for the reminder, Patsy! I was just out there in the garden jungle yesterday looking at the sad rotten canteloupe and didn't even think about sweet potatoes. I did pull up a few sorry looking little beets this morning. And got some pretty red bells. Love those.

Yeah, back to normal. That sounds strange. It's great here. I was just outside shelling peas I had gotten at the FM yesterday. And hanging a few loads of wash. Gotta get those throws all washed and ready for the nice chilly nights! I can't wait. I is definetely feeling fallish, ya'll!

Hey Patsy, don't feel guilty. That's what they do and they are good at it. You do plenty. Don't worry. Ya just have to watch him on that thing. They can get dangerous and weed whack the whole property down. Watch him now!

I wish it was as cool here as it is where some of you guys are at 6am this morning it was 72 already. Well after 2.5 miles washing and hanging clothes I worked in the yard till 1pm. Took a shower and did lunch. Later we will walk more. You guys keep it up after a while it will become a habit. The book says 21 days is the point. When you start to lose weight you will see your feet and your hands get smaller as well. When you gain you don't see it but when you lose it you can tell.

Yes Kris you will get more energy and feel better because of it and that will keep you on the right path. Lilly

So, I hiked 3 miles Sunday, walked 1/2 hour Monday and Tuesday, and yesterday, well, I didn't. Headache and hot, just didn't get to it. Have had a fairly cool summer and then yesterday was in the 90's. So tonight, the freak hot weather should be gone, and I hope to get in at least 1/2 hour, though high winds and dust storms are predicted (what the heck?). Wednesday will be my day off for this week, I guess. I'm going to stick with this.

Hi girls, We walked again this morning - did a little over a mile. Then went shopping with friends for the day - tired tonight, but had a great day.
Kris, we just started walking again - it's been two weeks now. We both feel much better too.
Patsy, I live in Blue Ridge, GA, about an hour or so from you. I love to come up there to the Whistle Stop Antique Mall and the quilt stores. DH loves the Antique Mall, not so much the quilt stores .
Walking in the morning, then taking TaffyAnn our 13 yo doggie to the vet. She's not been feeling great. Praying it's nothing serious. I can't imagine life without her!
Happy walking/exercising everyone - keep up the good work -
Fall is almost here! Yea

Y'all are doing great, & Kris, you are our ringleader!

Lillian, it's only really nice in the shade here right now. I get out in the sun or on the pavement on the driveway and it's HOT! It was nice on my walk tonight though. I left at 7:06 and walked an hour. Nearly to the little Baptist church where my DD goes. I picked up some acorns for the nature swap I am doing. I have picked up alot of really neat nature stuff on my walks to send. It sounds like you have had a very full day today. You are doing so good, Lillian. Keep it up!

Michele, you are doing great! I hope you are feeling better tonight.have been walking alot. Does it not usually get that hot out there? I am for sure tired of the heat. And I just know you are going to keep doing this because I will bug you to pieces if you don't! No, I will just keep asking you what you have been doing and try to encourage you to keep going. If you do feel like you want to quit just come on over here and let us know and we will be able to help you. We are all in this together!

Ruth, I am so happy ya'll have started walking with me! You had a very busy day too. All that shopping just wears ya out. It does me. When I took all 3 grands shopping one each day, I thought I woul dnever go again. I do not like to shop. It is tiring. But that antique mall sounds fun. We have several here and I do like to just go wander around them and see what I can find. I hope you dog is not sick. Is this one that was sick last week? Hopefully the vet can figure it out. I'll pray too.

How is everyone else doing? I haven't seen Rae here in awhile. There are quite a few others. I'll have to go back and look to see who they are.

Happy walking, ya'll! Pretty soon we'll have all sorts of beautiful colors to see when we walk!

Hey Lisa. That sounds like so much fun. So are you actually marching while playing? What do you play? I know you've told me but I am so forgetful. Sorry. But you are really walking alot, girl! Good for you. I am impressed. I walked an hour tonight. It felt good. Keep it up!

I do hope everyone else is doing ok. I won't name names but I would love to hear how ya'll are doing so far. I did just go back and look and I haven't seen alot of ya'll in several days. Just checking!

Ha! Kris! We don't march, just play that type of music. We have 2 drummers that are over 90 & our trombone player is pushing 80 & our Sousaphone player is over 70. So not a whole lotta marching going on. I play piccolo & hubby plays drums. Lately I have been really concentrating on my breathing, since I heard my most recent favorite singer Kristin Chenoweth say that you have to "breathe from your hoo hoo(girl part)" My goodness it really makes a difference, as I have always breathed deep in order expand my lungs & drop my my diaphram, but thinking even lower really helps my breath control... OK, now that I have bored you with that, time to go make dinner... At 9 PM ARGH!!

How neat Lisa!!!

You girls are doing wonderful! I need to get going on the walking thing too. I have been using my Recumbent bike about 30-45 minutes a day. I haven't been feeling that well and will be going to the doctor today. I think I may have an inner ear infection. I keep getting dizzy and have ear pain.

Keep on walking girls!!!

Sharon, I hope you find out what the problem is today and get something for it so you can feel better. But you are still doing the bike whih is great excercise. Le tus know what the doctor says. I'll be thinking about you.

Lisa, I can just hear her saying that about the breathing! She is so funny. My mom had a little place where she taught excercise classes. She told me that about breathing from the stomach and not the chest. So I have been doing that for years now.
