I am so glad ya'll are still walking! Yay! Megan, how are you? I hope you arte over your cold now. Sounds like you are.

I think I said already that some of us are walking every day now. I walked this morning the 3 miles. Then went and got the grandkids and went to Point Park up on Lookout Mt. I brought a picnic and we hiked down the mountain. We were going to go to the Craven's House but it was another mile. So we had our lunch on the side of the mountain. Then went back up. There were several sets of the steepest steps in the world. That was very hard. I took lots of beautiful pictuers of the kids. Then I had Chelsea take a picture of me on a rock with Kansas. As I was getting down my foot slipped and I fell. I hit my left elbow and my lower back. Thank goodness I had a backpack on or it could have been bad. But I am fine. So I walked about 6 miles today. It was a beautiful day. 85. We had fun. Then we went to the Craven House and walked around there. Found a really old house next door to that and broke the law and went all over the yard taking pictures. That house was beautiful.

I am missing so many of you ladies. Where are you all? And Ruth hasn't been here in several days. I hope everyone is ok.

Kris

Thursdays I meet a gal from church. We did 5 miles today, took about 90 minutes, so we were not breaking any land speed record
Welcome Amy! It always makes me feel better too!! I know you moved from OH & are missing our fall weather. I would miss that too, but I am a big Longhorns fan in a sea of Buckeyes fans! HOOK EM HORNS!
Kris, sounds like you have some beautiful areas to walk.

Amy & Megan, I'm glad you both are doing better. Ouch, Kris! Yikes! I'm glad you're okay from the slip. I haven't walked for the last couple of days. Too much schooling going on with my son & it's taking up most of the day. Loving the colors outside & hope to get to lacing the shoes and go out soon. Yes, I hope Ruth is doing okay along with some of the other ladies. Keep healthy, everyone :-)

Boy was I sore this morning! I walked with the faster girls and I could barely keep up. I sure did feel the pain! There is a young mother that brings her 2 kids. She has the baby in a thing on her chest and she pushes the little boy in a really nice stroller. So about half way I will push him. It works different muscles that way. Plus I have done lots of walking around here today also. Moving chickens and chicks and fixing the raised bed. Hunting eggs.

Jewel, how is your husband? Are you getting pretty leaves out there?

I'm better! No cold! But now my knee is busted! At my rugby game, my foot planted and my leg twisted and there is ligament damage and possible cartilage damage. So now I'm on crutches, and will definitely be getting my upper arm strength!

I like pushing a stroller when walking, helps to balance & gives me something to hold, maybe even puts the pace up a bit due to the wheels going fast & having to catch up with them, lol. My littlest, though, does *not* want to ride in a stroller anymore. Went for a walk with my husband last night. It's so nice to take in the evening smells and see the colors. Had to take him into the doctor yesterday, as he's been wheezing still & having lousy nights. Doc said that he has asthma, but doesn't know if it's a temporary thing due to his pneumonia or if it'll be a permanent thing called, "adult on-set asthma." He's on a couple of breathing things & that helped him to have a good night's sleep last night.

Got a mile in today. I hope to walk five miles this week. There is another park that the path is 2 miles. I want to work up to that. But I am happy with a mile a day for now.

I asked for an Ipod for Christmas. That way I have something to listen to while I am walking. My hubby is walking with me now. So we just talk.

Hi Melody! Welcome to the walking thread. Lots of encouragement here :-) Making that decision to take care of yourself is a great thing to do not only for yourself, but for the people around you who love you! I'm not a big exercise kind of person either, but I do like walking or riding my cruiser bike. I like taking in nature & processing my thoughts and coming up with creative solutions to things I've been thinking about. Those are some of the side benes to walking or doing something repetitive like that. I say, look at your clock & set a time you plan to go out for a walk. Treat yourself to a fun water bottle and go for it! Then come on here & post how it went :-) Here's to good health!!

Melody, welcome!!! I am so happy you have decided to join up on our walks! I know what you mean. I had to finally get to "that place" and realize where I might end up if I don't do something now. So good for you! I am excited for you. Do you have some friends who will walk with you? I started out by myself then a bunch of other ladies started walking up the road in the woods. So I am walking with them. It sure does make the time go by so fast. It really helps keep me going too. Sometimes I don't want to go but then I think I will be letting myself down if I don't. Then I will look bad to all of you. So I have to keep going. Please check in and let us all know how you are doing. I love to hear ya'lls progress and stories. So you go girl!! Yay Melody!!

Jewel, it sounds like you have a nice place to walk. I am so loving this changing weather now. I am so sorry your hubby is still not getting better. I know he has to be so frustrated by now. I hope he gets through this. And that the asthma is seasonal at best. But he needs to make sure it is asthma. My sister's doctor thought she had asthma for years and had her on all kinds of meds. Turns out she does not have asthma but really bad lungs that aren't functioning all the way. So he may have to go to a pulmonary specialist.

Amy, I am so proud of you! That is a good plan you have going. That's the way to do it. Take it east then work your way up to a little more each time. That's what I did. Every day I just went a little bit past what I did the day before. Then pretty soon you'll be walking miles! So have you noticed a difference in how you feel yet?

I walked with my ladies today. It was a beautiful morning. The leaves are starting to get pretty. The air is nice and crisp. Just perfect walking weather.

Ya'll keep it up. We are all doing great. I am so glad to see new girls here. Let's all encourage each other to keep going.

Kris

Amy,

I too am on thyroid medication...with as many as 4 different doses in 4 months. Finally, I said to the Dr. "Enough! Let me be on at least 3-months of one set dose and we will see how it goes." She listened and now after months of ups and downs energy-wise, I have noticed my metabolism is much much higher as of late and with this I am hoping I can maintain energy to get up, get my sneakers on and get outside!

Thank you for the encouragement girls!

Good for you Melody, starting is the hardest part.

I've been walking 3-5 days every week - wish I could make it 5-6 days every week. I went for a nice long hike on Friday, and a lovely walk with my family yesterday. We were able to take my aunt and uncle who were visiting for Eugene out on the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes. Lucky for us the weather was beautiful!

Ya'll, this walking is getting harder for me. I am still way too much out of breath going up these hills. And I really don't think I have lost a single pound. It's really discouraging. And I am dreading even going now. I think I am getting tired of the smae ole walk every day. I need a change. But it will start getting really pretty soon. I have noticed some color.

Ya'll keep it up! You're all doing great.

Kristin, you can do it. You are a inspiration to me. I know you can do it.

I walked just a bit more than a mile today. Had to miss yesterday as I had to talk to my daughter's teacher. Do you know that I felt like crap all day yesterday? I am determined not to stop.

Kris, I know what you mean. Is there somewhere different you can walk or something different you can do? I think it's important to look at walking as something you're doing for your health in general and not look at weight loss. There are health benefits even if you never lose a single pound. Otherwise, I know I would get plenty discouraged! Keep on walkin'!

Thank you, Amy and Michele. It can be a bit discouraging to not see any difference with all the work.

Has anyone heard from Ruth? I have emailed her and not gotten an answer. It's been awhile since she's been on. I hope she's ok. I will try her email again.

Hi Kris, I'm just back from CO - thanks for checking on me! I just wrote a long post and it disapeared! I was telling everyone about my trip and encouraging everyone to keep up the good walking.
I was having withdrawals because I couldn't get on MJF for over a week. Sure did miss ya'll!
Good to see we have some new farmgirls and that we are keeping on keeping on! The weather is perfect for me right now.

There you are, Ruth! I am so happy to see you again. I was getting worried and thinking all kinds of crazy things had happened to you. And now I remember you saying you were going to Col. I have the worst memory. I am so glad youa re back. I know what you mean about MJF withdrawals. It's awful. So you'll have to tell us all about your trip again. I bet it was beautiful. I have been to Col. Springs to my sister and brother's homes. It's nice to visit but I am always ready to come back home. I am so relieved to hear from you.

I just got back from walking. It's amzing how in just 2 days the leaves have changed so much. It's so pretty back there. It started out a little cool but then everyone started shedding jackets. Most of the walk is in the woods except for the last 1/4 mile. Then it's all sun.

Hey Hannah. So sorry you've been sick. I hope you get better soon. I am fine. Enjoying this beautiful weather here. It's a perfect 75 most of this week into next week. I'll take it! Cool nights. But the trees are loving this. They are really getting pretty now. We just need rain.

I walked this morning. But had to stop twice to let goats back in the pasture. They wanted to follow back to the camp but there are azaleas there. So I had to pen them back up. They keep getting out. So I got to walk up the killer hill twice. I am taking the weekend off. But I will goto my favorite craft fair Sunday. It's a really good one with lots of unique vendors. Plus a family that makes sourgum right there. I am getting a whole gallon this time. It's so good.

I hope everyone is doing good with their walking. It's so beautiful out now.
