Marsha I'm really sorry to hear that you are still dealing with the earache and feeling so stopped up. It's miserable to deal with. Marsha I totally agree that we have to stay connected with our faith. I don't know how I'd get by if not for my faith. Hope to hear soon that you are feeling much better. Hugs,Brenda

Hello everyone! I'm fairly new to Mary Janes Farm and the Farmgirl Connection so please bear with me! I am 45 years-old and was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus 25 years ago (I have major kidney involvement). About a year or so ago, I was also diagnosed with Chronically severe Fibromyalgia. Really, it's been one thing or another for my entire life. Now in early 2008 I began finding lumps in both breasts and had a huge one develop under my left arm. These were very painful and no one here knew what to do about them. I mean, I went from a bra size C cup to a DD cup in less than 1 month! Had too many biopsies to count, was sent to Vanderbilt University for a breast MRI and evaluation. My case went before the tumor board there and they too had never seen anything like this before. I had, what they thought, were at least 3 types of tumors (all benign, thank you God!), 2 of which are *never* seen "together" like this.
Anyway, the only thing to do really was bilateral mastectomies which were done first on Oct. 4th, 2009. Those didn't heal, went necrotic actually, so all that had to be removed and 3 weeks later had the latissimus dorsi flaps done for both breasts. Whoosh...not fun...I guess I don't heal well any more so the area around the right tissue expander became infected so I had to go back to surgery and have that removed. Then came loads of IV antibiotics and oral antibiotics until finally things have healed.
I'm sorry for this to be going for so long, but I felt you needed to understand some of my history. I have several long and ugly scars forming from all these incisions and will be having more surgery after I've healed a bit more to place the tissue expander that was removed. I've been using a scar gel to help soften the scars, but it's not working all that well. Does anyone have suggestions on what I can use (preferably naturally)? What have others used that has worked for them? I am a Registered Nurse by trade, but this isn't within my level of knowledge! I would appreciate any feedback anyone can give me! Thank you!

Susan, welcome! You have been thru so much, hoping that you may begin a journey of better health and healing! The only scar med that comes to mind is one that uses a type of patch with it.? I am not sure of the name, let me see if I can find out! Susan, my daughter is going thru a similar pattern of health and drs as you have. They believe she has a form of Scleroderma, but uncertain as to form and type. The specialists she needs to see....ins wont approve. So that is being fought at the moment, and for now her care and answers have been at a standstill! It sounds as tho you continue to be active and pursue some great farmgirl projects! Keep joining in with us and let us know how you are doing! We hope to continue to be a support system for one another. Hoping everyone is doing ok today. Blessings, linda

Thanks for the welcome! Linda, I'm sorry to hear that your daughter is struggling with Scleroderma. I am familiar with that disease as I have a distant cousin with it as well. It gripes me that insurance companies will pay for some things and not for others. We've dealt with that as well (my husband is a 24-year cancer survivor) and it can be heart breaking to have to fight with them to pay for something after you've been making your insurance payments to THEM for years. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I hope that things are worked out and she will receive the treatment she needs!

Another year behind us! Yeah! Now I'm taking time to reflect on what blessings I've recieved and how to be a better Christian and help others with their troubles through God's message of a new world to come!!!!
Some good news to share with you all. First, hello to Susan and I hope you can find the love and friendships here that I have. Now, the good news, we received a letter from the bank saying we were approved for the Make Your Home Affordable plan with reduced payments starting Feb.1st!!!!!!
My husband and I are so happy we relied on God and knew he'd carry us through. Thank you Sherry for your words of wisdom. It really helped! My dh wanted me to tell you a special "Thank you" from him!
Hoping Linda, Brenda and Connie are well and all my best!

Hello Girls, I'm home and doing pretty good. I had my surgery on the 16th of December and got home on the 19th. My first phyiscal therphy appt was on the 21st. I was up walking the day after the surgery. I'm doing very good with the PT and improving everyday. There is some swelling with my right leg but that is normal. I try to keep my right leg elevated as much as possible and that helps with the swelling. It was right away that the pain was gone. I have some pain/acheing but it is totally different. I'm taking some pain pills but nothing like I use to. I want to thank you all for the prayers and good thoughts you have sent my way, keep up the prayers for my recovery. I truely believe in the power of prayer. Thanks so much. Connie

Connie, so happy to hear you are on the mend!! Hope this will make life better and easier for you!! How is everyone this morning? It is cold here as well and suppose to snow sun/mon. I will be heading home next week for awhile. Need to get some things settled there so that I can truly move forward in my new home here. It will, should be sunshiny there, lol!! My computer coming with me so I will be in contact for sure. Need my 'farmgirl fix', ha ha ha!! Well, Sherrye, I am not an animal expert, but sure sounds like it is being stubborn and fighting your control for certain, LOL!! Maybe with time it will do what you want??? Hope everyone has a great day!!! Blessings, Linda

Hi Everyone, Ohh, someone else with FM who's an FG! I have been wrestling with this for the last 10 years. The good things is it can be backed up! I am now able to make the bed and do the laundry - all in one day! I'm on Efexor, but that's all besides vitamins and a really efficient diet. NO junk food or boxed food [except BIG Cheezits - there's no junk in them, if you can believe it]. I mop the floors in my house now JUST BECAUSE I CAN! Used to have to pay someone to clean for me. My problem is aging and deteriorating ligaments and arthritis along with the FM. I was layed off "workforce reduction." Have had two temp jobs and found out on the UPS job that my legs are too far gone to do any of these warehouse/heavy lifting jobs. I've made it through most of school so that I won't be 65 and living on minimum wage, but I can't seem to get a job right now! This scares me because I know others with FM who have ended up homeless and I also ended up that way about five years ago. Really stinks! Momma had Ray nods and Sclaraderma and survived that by 21 years, but she got cardio-pulmonary hypertension later on. That got her at 56 years old. I miss her much, but watching her taught me to keep moving forward, even if I have to crawl. Must be working, because I am able to do more than one thing a day now! Have to sleep more than eight hours a night or am useless the whole next day. Still have days where brain fog compromises all activities. But I'm able to sit and stand for lengths of time now. I want to get of the last of the pills, but the situation is just too stressful right now, the Doc and psychologists think I could have a relapse [FM attacks are triggered by extreme stress, as far as they know]. For those that are taking care of others, you rest as much as you need to to keep that good attitude. Remember your working for two people now, and you want to be in the best mental health you can during this time because the memories you want to have of the time with your mother are what you will have left when she is gone. Don't worry about what the rest of the world thinks about how your are using your energy and time. You'll never be able to explain the situation to them -we can't share what the pain or emotional burden is like unless others have been there.
Keep on Truckin!
And Remember - You have to be present to win!

Greetings Farm Girls! Happy to be here and so glad we're all holding on real tight to life as we get through each day. Hurray! Connie so glad you are doing well now. Keep up the good work to a full recovery.
Hoping the other dear ladies are all well and keeping your spirits high. Next week is a busy week for me with SS doctor appts. and my regular doctor appt. and then the gift shop appt. finally.
So, here's hoping all goes well at all three and I'll let you know how they all turn out. They are Mon-Wed. so don't worry if I don't get on again until the following week. Just have to rest up after all that excitment out of the house. lol
Blessing to you all and looking ahead to a better life to come!

I had gallbladder surgery on Friday. I am doing okay, just a little sore. I didn't have any nausea and very little bloating. And my blood sugar was only 109 this morning. It's been a long time since I was that low in the morning. I didn't have to get out and drive today in the snow since I am at home healing.

Take care Katherine and just rest. So happy all went well and no after surgery problems! Yeah!
It's a rainy cool day here in Florida. My SS appt. went well and back home safely. I'm a stubborn patient these days and the dr. was just supposed to evaluate me and not get off track. Well, he insisted I take off my sunglasses so he could do the interview. I told him it was because of my sensitivity to light that I have to wear them or I get a headache and start shaking. Well, we argued back and forth until I said well then let me sit where the light is not in my eyes, so he finally said well just turn off the light. I said Thank You! and then he got a phone call. Talk about saved by the bell. LOL When he came back into the room he forgot the argument and was nice again. Whew!!! I said a quick prayer to help me be cooperative and not get him mad at me. I'm just so tired of these Dr.'s forcing me to do stuff that always winds up making me suffer just to please them or because they "think" they know better than the patient about their own bodies!!!
So I'll be good for the next appt. with the Head Dr. on the 29th. lol Hope all of you are doing well and having a great Monday!
Hugs, Marsha

Katherine, I'm so glad you are on the mend, but if you have to be house bound better in the ice and snow than when the weather is terrific. I'll put you on my prayer list. I continue to get better day by day and I'll be glad when I can drive again and do things on my own. I really appreciate all of the help my family has given me. My DH is turning into a fairly good cook, he made some beef stew the other day.
