Poor little Violet spent the majority of last night at the ER after being referred by our pediatrician. Justin called yesterday to say she was very lethargic, and seemed to have a fever, so I ran home at lunch and found she was very warm. Changed her clothes to something cooler, gave her some tylenol and we both decided that we would call the doc, if necessary, when I got home from work. When I got home, she was sitting in her high chair eating, but her lips, hands, and feet were bluish/purple and cold. Despite her cool extremities, she was VERY hot, so I called the pediatrician, who said, "go to the ER, she needs oxygen."...
Her pulse-oxygen rate was 94 when we arrived, and fluctuated between 94 and 96 which, to the ER head doc was "unacceptable", along with a fever of 103.2. They did a chest x-ray and found severe congestion in her lungs, and gave her Motrin to lower her fever. We were unable to leave with her until her pulse-ox was 99-100%, which took about 3 hours after a strong dose of amoxycillin. At about 10:00, we were allowed to go home with a laundry list of "to do's" and an immediate follow up with her pediatrician.
Poor little thing, even while she was crying and feeling so poorly in the er room, she still managed to "patty cake" and "rooooolll it!" to make her momma smile.
Think of our little Violet this week as she makes her way to recovery. Thanks

Awe...poor baby. Will continue in prayer for her till I hear she's better.
Father God, I just lift up little Violet to you and ask that you will touch her with Your powerful hands and take away all sickness and symptoms of sickness so this little girl can be her happy self again. Let the antibiotics that the doctor prescribed work well and let her get plenty of rest. I pray that you will also give Jonni peace and strength as she cares for her. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN!

Oh Jonni! We just got done with some of that with Nora! It is sooo scary- but it is amazing how fast they react to the antibiotics... Good antibiotics are one of the few reasons that makes me happy to live in this day and age! :D Most of the time I feel like I should have been born in a different Century- but then something will happen and we need antibiotics and that just makes me so glad we have them!
I hope little Miss Violet feels much better today and continues to improve!

Thank you ever so much, Siobhan, Alee and Annika. I wouldn't have come to work today if she hadn't slept through the night. It's VERY difficult to be here, but at this point, I'm the only income, so I have to be. Siobhan, that was lovely. Thank you very, very much. She is such a sweet, happy, little girl and I'm having difficulty watching her struggle...
Alee, did Nora also have the blue extremities? Did they happen to test her for RSV?

Jonni...
So sorry to hear that your precious little one is feeling so badly. I hate when little children are sick. My 12 year old had a bout with bronchitis a few weeks ago. It took him over a month with numerous meds and two trips to the doctor to finally get on the mend. Your sweet little one is definetely in all of our thoughts and prayers and so are you and your DH.
Hugs...

Thanks so much, girls. This has been an especially difficult day for little Violet. She is normally such a boundlessly happy baby, and listening to her whimper when I call home is just too difficult. Can't keep my mind on much work, that's for sure. My husband says that she is mostly sleeping, but does wake up to play with her bunny puppet now and again, so that's a good sign.
Judy, she's been experiencing this "cold" since about Christmas, off and on, and each time the doctor said, "just let it work through" and each time, she's progressively gotten worse and the "cold" comes round more often. I'm wondering if she will now be prone to aggressive respiratory infections, much like your son?
I truly appreciate all the prayers and thoughts for this little one. She is, indeed, our world, and our world is just a little upside down, right now :(

Sorry to hear that Violet is so sick. I will keep her in my prayers. I know how hard it is as a parent when a child is sick. I'm sure things will be better soon.

Poor little mite! I know she will be better soon, but it is so harrowing when the small ones are sick. Sounds like you have a good pediatrician and that helps too. I'll be sending healing thoughts Violet's way....

David brought his computer home tonight. Poor Violet. Is there anything we can do for you all? Did the doc say what caused her oxygen level to drop like that? Are you sure about your pediatrician? You said her colds have recurred and gotten worse. I'm sure glad the meds are putting her to rights now. I'll be at the farm tomorrow. Just call if there's anything you need(cell or trailer phone). Or David's cell tomorrow night. Give her a hug and kiss from us.
