Brenda, I'm glad you like the pattern as much as I do. No it can be made in both knits and woven fabrics. If you go right to www.simplicity.com and look at the pattern you can look at the suggested fabrics as well as all the needed yardages and everything as if you had the pattern envelope in your hand. At least for most patterns you can. I do most of my looking at patterns on line now. Then when I go to the store, I know what I want and don't have to struggle with everyone wanting the same book at the same time. Of course with the price of patterns these days I wait until they are on sale to buy them also. I try to be organized enough to keep a list of what I want in my purse so that if I come across a sale I didn't expect I can pick up what I want.

After hearing about everyones projects I got motivated. I decieded it had to be UFOs first. So in 2 days I completed 4 pillowcases. a sundress, and 2 skirts and a curtain for the laundry room. I started a new scrub(nurse) top for work and it just needs hemmed. I have never finished so many @ once. I do still have one or two more to do yet. It was really insiring to finish these.

Thanks for the motivation. Teddie

Teddie - congratulations!!! I have a couple of skirts and aprons cut out that need to be sewn together, and now I'm inspired to keep up the momentum of finishing the UFO's, too. There's something so nice about finding new material and starting a new project when you know that it's not "backed" by 50 things that need to be finished!

XOXO, Libbie

I stayed up until 1 a.m. last night pinning and basting several projects that were started, but never finished. Today I'm going to pull the sewing machine out and sew them together and I'll end up with an outfit (top and capri pants) for my daughter, a cute "Easter" sundress for her (the kind with the printed pieces that you just cut out, I came across it last night and some yellow gingham to use for the skirt), I cut out two aprons that I want to make to sell....those should all be finished today. Then I can pull out the fabric and pattern for my daughter's "real" Easter dress. The one that I'm sewing today will be for the Easter Egg hunt with our church on Friday evening.

I'm so excited to be on Spring Break!!! :)

Last night I laid in bed counting the projects that I need to finish. I figured out it is a lifetime of work even if I never start another thing. I am 56.

I am doing a baby quilt for our new little Hannah. That one will definitely get finished pronto.

I am finishing an antique sampler reproduction in cross-stitch. It is a large one.

I am finishing the last quilt top my grandmother did. It is a double/queen.

And I still need to finish quilting a throw quilt I made for my hubby last year. I do all work by hand, so this is years of work, for sure, at the pace I seem to go! Ah well, life is good. I am glad I can still sew and enjoy it.

Peace

One thing at a time, and of course little Hannah wins, they always do. Then you can pick the next one. Of course that counting thing at night could be helpful at our age. HA.

I just finished my daughter's top/capri pants outfit late last night! She looks so cute in it, I went and took some pics of it and posted in my blog to share with family far away!

Now, to finish the Easter theme sundress and get started on the "real" Easter dress!!!

On the way home from the doctor's this morning, I found a new wool rug hooking shop. The lady was really sweet and when I have time in summer, she said I could come by and she'll teach me enough to get me started...classes are in the Fall. I'm so excited! My original destination was the quilt shop down the way from the rug shop...I'm totally inspired to do a quilt (maybe a throw?) for my daughter's room. They had the perfect quilt top hanging on the wall!!!

So many projects, so little time...."sigh"

Katee - isn't that the truth? I never want to run out of projects and I know I never will. So glad you found a great new shop! We are going to be in Daytona next week, and I like to find new shops along the way. I looked up Wesley Chapel location, and it is too far south for this trip.....:(

Bummer! We're really close to Tampa, so if you're this way, let me know!!! Check out DeLand, it's a quaint, smallish (not really, but compared to urban it is) town. It has a really neat downtown area and some neat shops there, it's about 20 minutes from Daytona. (We lived there for 3 months....long story! LOL)

WIth some ladies from church, we just made a "Quilt Of Honor" for a wounded soldier. It is a nation wide project, attempting to get a quilt to all our wounded soliders. It was really fun to do, and gave us a real sense of patriotism.

My cousin Mike Burgess lives in Deland. He was run over last year by a fed x truck and lost a leg. Do you remember anything about that? Anyway he is doing good now, long road but his outlook has got him through, he just says he misses dancing.Thought maybe it was in the news down there.
Sounds like you will be very busy over your Easter vacation.

I'm almost finished with a little Easter themed sundress for my daughter (she's wearing it to the egg hunt tonight). I had one of those pre-printed panels for the bodice. I have to put a button hole and button on it and maybe the pockets. (She wants them, so I'll probably put them on.) I still haven't started on the Easter dress for her, but it's a fairly easy pattern...."sigh" LOL

Nancy, we only lived there for 3 months, June through August. I don't recall hearing anything like that.

Yep, Easter break has been VERY busy! I haven't gotten anywhere near everything I wanted to have done. I have a table and 4 chairs I want to refinish, and just can't seem to get to them. I guess they'll have to be a weekend project.

Yay! I'm finished with the dress except for the button! I decided to do velcro because I didn't find a button I like and will just stop by and get a really cute bunny or sunshine button to put on it this afternoon. My daughter was so happy when she woke up this morning to see it!!! (She'd better be happy, I was up until 4 a.m.! LOL I'm a nightowl when it comes to doing stuff like this, and can't stop until I'm finished for fear of never finishing it! hehe)

I've belonged to a couple of different quilt groups that have UFO challenges from time to time. We're in the middle of one right now. So I counted my UFO's...just quilt related I have about 50. That doesn't count any of the other things I do like sew, knit, counted cross stitch, etc. I'm trying to stick to finishing things right now for a while. But......you know I'll get bored and just have to start something new.

OK, I bought fabric and patterns to make 4 skirts and tops, have pre-shrunk and ironed it and have to have it done in 5 DAYS!!! There's so much to do in the garden I hate to spend time in the basement sewing! (AND pinning patterns on the fabric is my least favorite part...) and I have to go to work, too!!!! How am I going to get this all done?????

Good luck Brenda! I couldn't get it done that quickly, I too hate the pinning/cutting part of making stuff. LOL I work full-time and hardly have the time/energy to sew in the evenings. It's usually a weekend or school break project around here. Let us know how it goes.

Here is a link to my latest creation:

http://homepage.mac.com/mandle/PhotoAlbum24.html

I don't think that my little Easter Bunny liked it much, but it sure was adorable! (Fun to do too, pattern from Stitch-n-[bleep] Nation.) Now I'm working on knitting a little sweater vest for the same kid...just finished booties for him too with self-striping sock yarn (yum!). Good thing I finished sweaters for my mom, husband, and me before the baby was born, 'cause now it's all about him!

I used to really dislike pinning and cutting the pattern also. One time as a challenge to myself I decided that I would really take my time and take all the steps suggested by the pattern. I was really surprised at how much easier the sewing actually went and how much more professional my garment looked when finished. I think I always was in a hurry to get the pinning and cutting done and out of the way but I realize now that the pinning, marking and cutting are just as much a part of the handicraft of sewing as the actual sewing and I do it with a lot more attention to detail and with less rush to just get it done and get sewing.

One other thing is that it is really worth the money to buy a decent cutting table.

OK, I've finished the first skirt, except for the hem... And I don't really like it. Now I'm thinking of adding a ruffle at the bottom. Is there a rule of thumb for how much wider the ruffle fabric needs to be than the skirt width? Is it 1/3 again as much fabric, or 1/2?
