Ohhhhhhh ceejay, my heart breaks for you~~you are so strong, loving, patient, giving, I could go on and on, but to have just your immediate family to lean on, I can't even imagine. Thank God you have them. Are your siblings, and other relatives close by, or are they so removed from the situation they don't know how to react to your sister, or what!!! I cannot even imagine, I would be so guilt ridden I couldn't stand myself. You can be so proud of what you are doing and who you are doing it for, you have all the support here and more than a whole "family of families"....we all care about you and worry about you my friend!! Should we send the prayer warriors out again this week????? Please take care of yourself.

CJ, I used to work as an aide in a head trauma unit. I totally understand what you are going thru, never mind that this is your sister! Why is it in families that the caregiving falls on one person? Oh CeeJay you really pulled my heart strings today. Taking care of your sister I am sure is a very hard job and at times I'm sure being short tempered and tired is easy but when some one finds fault or has a problem with your child has be the worst. I believe Down S. kids are Gods gift to us. they teach us patience, they love you no matter what. Some people can't handle the happiest people on earth. For the life of me I will never know why. Some day they will understand and when their eyes open I hope they realize how their actions made one feel.
You are a wonderful person and I believe God knows that and he sent you his special angel knowing you would be the one to keep him safe and happy.
I am so sad that you were torn to shredds by family no less for telling the truth. Give me a break have any of these people helped you out, really helped you out? I so wish you were my neighbor.
You and your family are always in my prayers. Tonight I will say an extra one just for you.
Hang in there and remember you are a real farmgirl and loved by all of us.

Suzie . . to answer your question. None of our siblings live here, they are scattered from British Columbia to North Carolina. So, for them to be here to heft, heave and clean up messes . . they can't. But they KNOW I am and I've told them plenty about the challenges and the wear and tear. But, I know that unless they have actually EXPERIENCED it they will have NO CLUE!!!!! That does NOT excuse them for the lack of communication and lack of encouragement and support.
One of our neighbors just recently lost her husband. He had been very ill for a long time with cancer, going through treatments, etc. She told me that she knew from experience how it felt. She also reassured me that, as I said, unless you EXPERIENCE it then you can't understand. I know that if any of these nay-sayers and criticiz-ers were to actually DO what is done for my sis on a daily basis . . .they'd be shocked!!! They'd also run screaming out of the house . . that has happened with her so-called friends. She isn't the person they knew and her behavior is very unpleasant . . so they run. And they don't come back!!
When it comes to my son . . well, I just make sure he is taken care of the way he needs to be, I fight for him . . . oh, I fight for him!!! And, I talk to him like he is a REAL person . . . and I enjoy him immensely!!! He is an incredible person!!! It's been a while since some of the rejecting family members have been around him, but I remember the last time we had a family gathering I made sure that he was included and acknowledged and spoken to. BUT, WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO DO THAT??? That's what just makes me angry, hurts my heart and .. . when I get past the anger I pray and I ask forgiveness for the anger and then I try to be an even better educator of those who need to be educated.
But I sure get tired of that!!! These people need to grow up and deal with it!!!!

ceejay I love it when you get on your soapbox!!! You go girl. I guess that was what I was trying to say, unless they go through the experience, they will never, never know, nor will they ever understand. My neighbors were here for a bit this afternoon, and of course we were remembering my late dh, one of them made a comment about "I know exactly what you went through", boy did I have to bite my tongue, lip, etc. to keep still, even though they were here for both of us, they do not know what went on "behind the scenes". You are such a strong, wonderful woman, and god did send you on this mission, knowing you would know just how to handle it.

CJ I'm so sorry that you are going though all of this with your family. It seems that many times they are the ones that can hurt you the most. You are the loving and caring one of them, therefor it all falls on you. You know your right with the Lord and he right there beside you. He'll guide you through all this and bless you. I love you for who you are! If only the world had more "CJ's" to show us the way. You are continually in my prayers girlfriend and I wish I was there so I could give you a big HUG, caregiver's need the love also.

Cee-Jay, I was remembering a party I went to. My girlfriend Lani invited her whole family and friends to a nice picnic in the park. Everyone was playing games, eating or exploring the park. Some of us started playing croquet. Michael,who is blind and developementally slow wanted to play so we let him..Some of his family said oh you don't have to play with him he can't see the ball and he enjoys just listening to his music. Everyone playing said he's not getting out that easy. Everyone helped him, evryone played at their best but no one cared about winning, we just wanted to play & have fun and I think Michael made it an extra fun game...He didn't even come in last.

My sis has to go back to Denver for repeat followup visits this coming Monday, the 12th. Followups to be with orthopedic surgeon and infectious disease specialists.
Please pray for safe journeys . . they will be leaving on Sunday.
Returning home on Tuesday.
Please pray for all things to be clear and healthy. There is a bit of concern with a recent xray of that hip replacement repair . . . PRAY THAT THIS WILL PROVE TO BE OF NO CONCERN!!!!!!
My belief is that there are still issues for some of knowing what are REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS . . . and HOPED FOR DREAMS that may or may not come about.
Soooooooooooooooo your continued prayers are cherished and all your prayer support in the past . . .WELL, THANK YOU more than I can express!!

Well, they leave tomorrow morning for Denver . . again!
Orthopedic surgeon followup appt. on Monday at 10 AM, followup with infection disease specialist at 1:30 PM
They need safe smooth travels both ways . . . CLEAR AND GOOD checkups with doctors!!
Need to be back home Tuesday evening!!!
Things are sorta the same . . .

They are back home again, trip went well with no problems.
Followup doctor visits went well, things look good.
There are issues of why she is not "rehabbing properly" . . . I have my own take on this but won't get into that.
I was "on duty" last evening when they got home, getting her settled back into her home, helping unpack, etc., etc. Eventually getting her ready for bed. We were goofing off together . . . I do that often to get her to laugh and distract her from her obsessive, repetitive "chair beating" and noticed some responses that were indicative, further, of her brain injury.
I believe that a miracle is possible . . . that is my hope! But I also have learned that one must live in the reality of the situation and prepare for that and not focus your day on the miracle that is not reality.
I'm off for the next two days and then will be back there working with her in the ways I know best.
Thanks for your prayers . . . and for the continued prayers for all of us as we deal with the reality.

Sis is doing fairly well so far. Still trying to assess the issues with PT and OT and direction for that.
She had to have some dental work done and because of her brain injury had to have it done under general anesthesia. So that is where she was yesterday . . did good. But she has a sore mouth now!!!
Anyway . . . physical things are healing up. Issues with brain injury and related behavior . . well, not much change there.
I have return of neck pain in the left side of my neck . . . a recurring thing and very frustrating!!!!!

CJ, I still feel like I've only scratched the surface of this forum. Just found this thread and am adding you, your sister and family to my prayer list.
