I'M TRYING NOT TO PANIC . . . .
As many of you know, my husband had knee surgery in October and we had been asking for prayer for this and the $$$ end of it as we don't have insurance. The bill we got in the mail today from the orthopedic surgeon was NOT what they told us it would be . . . I made a phone call and got some resolution on it.
BUT, my sister's hubby says they will be in Denver longer probably because the surgeon there doesn't want to cut her lose until he can monitor her some and they are talking about some rehab time there.
So-o-o-o, my near panic is, of course, money related. While I'm grateful for the time off to be doing Christmas stuff, be at home, get a break, etc., etc., I CANNOT afford to be off work!!!! We plan to go to Arizona for Christmas which means some lost time there. We are going there because we need to see my hubby's mom, who is elderly and just out of the hospital. See my brother-in-law and family, but also to see my daughter!!! GOTTA SEE ROBIN!!!!!
I told my hubby tonight I need to THINK through the situation and the money that it will take to do what we need, consider the stash I have and all that. I don't get any kind of paid time off through the agency that pays caregivers for my sister.
So, please pray for me to have peace about this, for provision for the need, for me NOT to panic but to savor the time . . . and, of course, for my sister's recovery!!!

Praying that you get to go to Arizona and the $$$ issue is resolved. Most hospitals are willing to work with you on payments. Try not to panic, tis the season for peace and joy. Hoping this Christmas season brings you happiness.

I am not sure but I heard a long time ago that hospital bills can not charge late fee's or any other fee's than the orginal bill, even if you pay $10 dollars a month they can not charge you any more than the orginal. I hope that helps, your in my prayers.

Actually, the bill I'm referring to is from the orthopedic surgeon, not the hospital. When we went in for Bill's first consult visit we . . . I thought . . . "struck a deal". But it has turned out not to be so. We did come to some resolution on that however in a phone call yesterday.
The hospital bill is another issue entirely. We qualified for the SELF-PAY DISCOUNT which gave us a very significant discount. However, on that program we cannot set up payments . . . we have a time frame in which to pay the remaining balance. If we miss that deadline, then the discounted amount goes back onto the account.
You learn a lot about medical charges when you don't have insurance!!!!
Anyway . . .I've settled down some about that. I'm just not sure if I have any work for the rest of December.
I know we'll survive . . . we always have!!! And, I'm pretty darned good at pinching pennies . . .been doing it so long. I'm just weary of that being the way of life. . . but so many others are in worse straights. I'm trying to keep my perspective!!

Talked to sis's hubby tonight. . . there IS a culture of hip aspiration fluid that shows a staph infection. She has had blood tests indicating something but tests have been inconclusive as to source. So-o-o-o, looks like they have an answer. She will be getting MORE IV antibiotics before discharge. Then will be going into rehab for who knows how long and having followup with the surgeon.
It is "up in the air" as to when she will be well and healed enough to make the trip home. That means I'm on a vacation of indefinite length. While I REALLY needed the break and am enjoying the time off, it has HUGE, HUGE financial implications.
Anyway, sis is doing good, but needing more hospital stay time than anticipated and to be CLEARED, CLEARED of infection and able to get up and around more.
That's the latest for now . . . please continue to pray for all the parts and pieces of this situation.

Ceejay wished you lived her my MIL and FIL need about 3 weeks of in home care and nobody is able to give up their jobs and so we are looking to hire someone for that time.

My sis has been moved to a nursing home rehab facility as of Sunday night. She is doing okay, but the staff there didn't really understand that she needs 24 hr. care/supervision. So, her hubby is staying in her room with her. He had to spend Sunday night in a recliner, then brought in the foam mattress he had in their van for last night. Said they hadn't come up with a bed for him yet.
She is still getting treatment for the staph infection. She would not cooperate with physical therapy . . . and that has been an issue all along in every situation for years.
He didn't know when the orthopedic surgeon was going to want to see her again, but would be finding that out. So, it is still indefinite as to time frame, but I guess that is to be expected in a situation such as this.
Our older sister lives nearby and is able to do laundry for them, check in on them, etc., etc. She has a tendency to interfere when she shouldn't so I'm hoping that she minds her business and is just as helpful as she can be.
I'm still on "vacation" . . . but getting ready for Christmas and getting a break from all the "muscle" work with my sister. I did receive a monetary gift check yesterday that was a REAL ANSWER TO PRAYER and will help a bit on the income loss.
Anyway, that's it for today . . . again I can't express to all of you how much your support, encouragement and prayers mean!!!

Yes, Diane . . . she has a terrific hubby!! If you ever wanted an example of TRUE, COMMITTED LOVE . . . this would be it!!! He has been ABSOLUTELY THERE!!!!
I talked to Joe (her hubby) tonight. She is doing okay, standing for a few minutes in the standing frame. They have an appt. with an infectious disease specialist on Friday to discuss the issue of the staph infection. Apparently that was something that has been latent for some time, identified only with surgery and scrapings taken from the hip area. So, she is still getting IV antibiotics, they are checking blood values daily.
Her follow-up appt. with the surgeon is not until the 30th . . . so they will be up there the rest of the month and not home for Christmas. Our older sister and her daughter and family all live nearby, so I guess that they will be taking care of sis and hubby this year for Christmas. That is good . . . they need to be more involved.
I will be on my unpaid "vacation" until . . . who knows when . . . hopefully not much longer than the end of December. We will go to Arizona for Christmas, and because of my not having to get right back to work, will probably stay down there at my daughter's a couple more days. Why not??
Anyway, that's the story today . . . I celebrate my birthday tomorrow . . . mercy me!!!
