Well, things are status quo for my sister. Has about 2 1/2 weeks of the long-term IV antibiotic therapy to go. Home health makes visits regularly to check on her, draw blood to test levels of the antibiotics so the dosage is right. Speech therapist has been visiting to help make suggested for her eating . . . she chokes A LOT!!!! Unfortunately, that is typical for a brain injured person.
We continue to work at taking care so we don't hurt ourselves because she is still immobile and requires a lot of lifting and transfers. And, we wait for the time to come when the hip repair can be made . . . she is in pain and will NOT attempt any standing or walking. I told her the other day that she really could use her other leg . . . it still works. But she is unable to comprehend this.
So, we are still holding, hoping . . . and waiting!!!

I hope everyone had a lovely Sunday. Mom and Dad were well enough that my husband and I went to see his brother in the hospital. I know that doesn't sound very great, but just to leave the house was so nice. So, I had a good day!

Thanks Diane . . . when I look in the mirror I see a person who just doesn't seem so strong, or wonderful.
But God is faithful and I believe that if I can trust Him and lean on Him He will NOT fail me!!!

Just a quick catch-up on my sister . .
We are about to complete the 6-wk. IV antibiotic regime. She has appt. with neurosurgeon next week for clearance on her shunt for the hip repair surgery.
The last two days she has actually made some attempts to stand, using her right leg which is still healthy. WHAT A DIFFERENCE that makes to us who are trying to work with her with activities of daily living!! I told her this morning that she was doing a really good job with that and it was SO-O-O-O-O helpful!!!!
Yes, "microscopic" . . . but so very important!!!!
Please continue your prayers . . . the road is still LONG and BUMPY!!!

My sis has completed 7 weeks of IV antibiotic therapy, has had aspiration of her brain shunt to determine if there is any infection there. Will have aspiration of the hip joint that needs repair to see if there is infection there. Will have blood panels drawn to check those levels, etc.
Her hip replacement repair surgery is tentatively scheduled (for the 3rd time) for December 7th or 8th in Denver. That is 400 miles from here . . . it is winter . . . holidays are coming.
She is slightly improved on her mobility . . . helping a bit more with standing and transfers. Still is VERY, VERY taxing on my body (and other caregivers).
Please continue to pray for all of this stuff to come together . . that she will be CLEAR of infection and surgery can take place and she will do well and be able to get back home. She IS A HOMEBODY!!!!
Doesn't like to be out and about much.

Well . . . a trip to Farmington, New Mexico today for aspiration of her hip joint to see if there is any infection there. (The hip replacement repair that has to be done). Will also have lab work for further clearance of infection.
Farmington is 1 1/2 hr. (one-way) drive for us . . . hopefully my sis will not be to irritable with that. She is really grouchy today!!!
Scheduled to head for Denver (400 miles away) on Sunday, Dec. 6th for consult with orthopedic specialist on the 7th and the repair surgery on the 8th . . . if cleared of the infection.
So-o-o-o-o, we'll see how it all goes. The trick with her going in for these tests is having to wait . . . and wait. She does NOT wait and starts hollaring, smacking people around and trying to leave.
Thanks for your prayers . . . and thanks for continuing to pray!!

Oh how I've walked in your shoes, just not with my sister as I don't have one. Rose will scream at every bump & turn in the road, scream out in pain before she is even touched. Today she refused her shower so I said good now I can get the turkey and get things done at home. She said but I need you to get me my food. I said sorry if you can't walk into the shower you can't walk to the table to eat so why should I bother, then I said why do you have all this food next to your bed, she said she got a little while ago by herself. So I said good you must be cured I bet you can even shower yourself have a nice day. Then she asked me if I would shower her I said I would love too help and she did everything else but saved the complaining for her grandaughter.
I know your sister has different problems but the grouchy part is just like Rose. Once again my hat is off to you!! You and your sister are in my thoughts & prayers daily.

Trip to Farmington went okay . . . procedures went pretty good. Of course, since no one knows my sis and they see an adult one has to explain to her that she is brain-injured, will not comprehend what's happening, has to be lifted and transferred, is incontinent, etc., etc.
When I go with her for these kinds of things I have to ask the staff to please get moving . . . she DOES NOT WAIT well and just REALLY needs to not have to be put in that position. Fortunately, things went well yesterday. However, she could not get home fast enough . . . an 1 1/2 hr. drive listening to her moan and say "take me home". We are grateful for how things went.
Now we wait on test results . . . and pray that she is clear from infection.
THANKS FOR YOUR PRAYERS!! Now, to get them (she and her hubby) safely to Denver as per the schedule and get them home in a timely manner.
