Lori, what is gohsting? I noticed you used that term on the Christmas Cookie thread.

It's kind of like May baskets- we take a trick or treat bucket and put some candy, tattoos, pencils, and other Autumn treats in it- I always put a small loaf of Pumpkin-Cranberry bread in it- that way the people know where it came from. My daughter doesn't like me to add the loaf of bread , because she likes it to be a surprise and then have our friends try to figure it. We have a copy of a Halloween poem and a picture of a ghost that we photo copy. We drop the bucket at the door, ring the bell and run like the wind and try not to be caught. On the poem it says to have a Happy Halloween and to ghost 3 more neighbors and friends- so we just try to keep it going. My family has had so much fun doing this- we have been doing this for at least 10 years! |

That sounds like sooooo much fun!!! I have never done that before. I smell a new tradition coming on. :)

For years my Mom and I would make about 100 cookie plates every December. Then we'd deliver them anonymously to shut-ins, folks who worked at places that brightened our day...the post man, garbage man, dr.'s, etc. It was always so much fun to try and slip them the treats without them figuring out who they were from. I like the term "ghosting" for it! Makes it sound mysterious.

Here is the poem that we use:
You've Been ghosted!!
Late last night, we left you a treat. The tradition is fun, one we hope you'll repeat.
Take the ghost and pin it on your door, to let others know, you need ghosted no more.
Now it's your duty to pass on the surprise, to three more families, we must advise.
Gather some treats and deliver them soon, within two nights, under the light of the moon.
Include a ghost with each package you give, along with this poem for the tradition to live.
Enjoy!! |

What a great idea!I have been ribboned , which is on the same idea, but you have to purchase the ribbons from the Relay For Life team who sponsors the activity. I will definitely do this...it will be so random, no one will ever guess who started it!Thanks for sharing.

That is a wonderful idea, told my D-in-Law and grandsons and they want to start doing it here. We will have to go by ATV thou, cause no body is close enough to run to and from. Thank you so much for sharing.

Lori: That sure sounds like lots of fun. I think I'll become a ghoster. Fun! Marly

Ohhh haha, I work at the UPS Store and someone came in last weekend and made copies of a ghost and a poem thing. I asked if it was for a party or something and they said it was for putting on your friends/neighbors doors or something. That's a cute idea :) |

Really cute! I'll have to try this with my neighbors. They definitely won't know it is from me - our neighborhood isn't all that chatty.

This is so much fun, my daughter does so many families. One year we did older friends and we made soup and bread and fruit in the Halloween buckets- we had to try and be careful of what some neighbors can eat. I always call after to let them know who it came from, because I don't want the hard work going to waste. Natalie is doing all the kids she babysits for this year- and has been watching for special things to put in the buckets- we are going to do our ghosting on the 16th.

I think I'll do a "ghosting" again this year. Lori, I had never heard of this, but it was so much fun. I didn't call the person we ghosted to, but I watched to see when they got home. Marly

Lori - that is such a neat idea! We actually do something similary by "playing Santa" at Christmas and "playing the Easter Bunny" at Easter for our elderly neighbors... but I like your "ghosting" idea, too! I really love the idea of doing special, unexpected things for our neighbors... maybe we'll incorporate "ghosting" into our fall celebrations as well! Thank you for sharing - and for the poem, too! :) Hugs, Nini
