Hey, Melody! - When I first met my husband, I went to his mom's for Thanksgiving dinner - they had HAM! I'm a descendant of New Englanders, so I'm used to all the traditional dishes with all the old-fashioned trimmings. I couldn't believe it! My in-laws are from South America, so I think whey put their own spin on the Holiday. My mother-in-law told me something I'll never forget: "You be thankful for what you want to be thankful for, and I'll be thankful for what I want to be thankful for." I guess they were thankful for ham. ---lisalisa

We are making homemade turkey pot pies for our dinner. And we'll have the usual, candied sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. We decided that since there will only be the two of us, we aren't going to any trouble.

The main things we are having: Turkey, stuffing; sweetpotato pie; corn; mashed potatos; and Dinner rolls with a carmalized topping. My husbands nephew refuses to eat any type of potato other than french fries, so he brings those. For desert, we always have pies. Sammy Ann |

This is what will be on my table this year for Thanksgiving. I make a new menu for the holidays every autumn, choosing a few things from a bunch of recipes that I've gathered all year. I spend all year looking forward to the coming holiday, never quite knowing what will make the final menu.
We usually like light flavored or plain sparkling water to drink Roast turkey ~ I may try to brine soak it this year or I will cider baste it. Tea basted is yummy as well...I can't decide! Homemade turkey and mushroom gravy Homemade whole berry cranberry sauce (so easy-so good!) Roast golden potatoes instead of dressing Salad of mixed baby romaine, walnuts and pomegranate seeds in balsamic-fig dressing Homemade almond crust pumpkin pie and hand whipped vanilla creme "Turkish" coffee

Has anybody ever tried beer basting a turkey? We've done it with ham and it comes out so tender and juicy, so I'm wondering how it would come out with turkey.

Two of my favorite things to eat at Thanksgiving are my Mother's mashed potatoes which are swimming in butter that the potatoes are yellow and the dressing/stuffing made with giblets.

Does anyone have a recipe for a brine? I would love to try it this year.
We will be having:
Turkey, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, broccoli casserole, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, brown n serve rolls. Pumplin pie, apple pie, cheesecake.
and topping it all off with a nap...

i am working on tweaking the "regular" Thanksgiving menu to be more heart healthy. found a yummy sounding recipe for wild rice dressing i am going to try, as well as a remake of green bean casserole.
