| I saw the magazine in my local grocery store while looking for the cross stitch magazine I always buy. The first time I saw it, I thought it was some cheesey organic stuff that I wouldn't be interested in so I passed it by. But each trip the cover kept catching my eye. So this month I actully stopped and read a few pages before the kids ran off and liked what I saw. I figured I would chance buying it and have my husband laugh at me. But he hasn't yet, and I have loved reading the magazine this week. I love the pictures and hints and tips and quotes thrown through out the pages, it makes me read every page! |

I am a Librarian and MaryJanes book came as a request from a patron. When it was returned and I had a chance to really look at it, I fell in love. I was raised by my grandmother and it made me feel like she was talking to me. I love everything that MaryJane stands for and in this day and time we all need to take a look back at our heritage. I can not wait to get started on the projects, but just can not decided where to begin.

| My sister picked up the magazine a few months ago for me because she thought I would enjoy it. I fell in love! I immediately looked for a website, and started "lurking". I couldn't believe how much community, love and support I found, so it wasn't long until I joined in. I was immediately captured by the homemade way of doing things as I have always been drawn to doing as much as I can with as little as possible. I have found a group of people I can identify with, that have the same interests as I do. Now my husband accuses me of being obsessed I'm on the computer so much! He keeps asking, what are you doing on that thing all the time? He just doesn't get it!! It's such a wonderful place to be! |

I had been thinking about my style and what I really like in life. I have always known what I love but every once in a while feel lost in the rat race and get caught up with things that don't fit my personality. One day I went to Barnes and Noble just to see if I could find anything to read that fit me. I must have stood looking for an hour feeling like there was no one out there like me. I went to the magazines and looked for one I had seen years ago but nothing was there. For some reason I was determined to find something. Finally I was looking through the "Men's Interests" (of all crazy places) and there was Maryjanes's Farm magazine. I was so excited that I bought the ideabook too and couldn't put it down. Within the next few weeks I purchased Outpost and the Stitching Room and read them all. Maryjanes was just what I was looking for and I knew something had to be out there. Now here I am on the farmgirl connection with new long distance friends and having a great time.

I bought Mary Jane's book and got lost in it. Many of the things she covered are close to my heart (simple living, taking time to make things, a healthier way of life, etc). These are things that speak both to urban and rural dwellers.
I find that I have many kindred spirits on this site.

You know the other thing about her books and magazines is that it inspires those of us who had given up on having that kind of lifestyle. Let's face it, it's easier to shop for convience groceries and appliances that make things quick and easy. It's a slippery slope when getting into that mode of thinking because from there we start spending and wasting and it just escalates. It's when you step away from that lifestyle that you start to take the time to prepare bread, cook meals that aren't prepackaged from the grocery freezer and feel a sense of accomplishment when you are done at the end of the day.Personally, I have made that commitment to try to do these things daily and let me tell you the physical work of it has made it much easier for me to sleep at night! I get tired! LOL But Ohh, the peace of mind and relaxing nature of it is worth more than anything to me and I am here to stay!

I found it while looking at another online forum. They mentioned this site and another one and I took a look. I read everything I could and just fell in love with her ideas and philosophies. MaryJane is living the life I always wanted. I'm going to try my own little "farm" here and that means my own veggie garden and learning to do things the MaryJane way. I've already signed up for a magazine subscription and can't wait to get my first copy! I'm also going to order some of her books, too.

I was just reading back through this thread and noticing how amazingly cool it is that "farmgirls" come in such different "forms" and from such differing backgrounds - with different skills and levels of experience in so many venues. I LOVE that. I truly do. That's the stuff that a true sisterhood is made of.

I first read about MaryJane in Country Living magazine. Then I read her lifebook and found her to be an amazing woman, but her lifestyle was not where I was at. Fast forward to 2009, I picked up her magazine at Tractor Supply, happened to be in a farmgirl frame of mind and stage of life, saw that I could be a part of a community of likeminded farmgirls and here I am. Yay for our team!
I decided to join the farmgirl sisterhood because I wanted to support this website and keep the farmgirl community flowing!

I believe finding MaryJane as an answer to my prayer. While doing a little research online, I made a typing error which brought me directly to the Home Page!
What can I say, I am hooked!! The whole idea of a Sisterhood, everyone sharing and caring about the same things that I do, well, like I said, an answer to my prayer!

I found MaryJanes through my Mom (Levisgrammy) She came to help out when I was having my son (Levi) and when I brought him home from the hospital she stayed that week and she showed me the website and how to get on and of course her favorite posting places. I signed in thinking it'd be one of those places Id go to read what everyone said and then forget my password and ..........
and so here I am...lol

When I layed my eyes on MaryJanes Farm magazine "Farm Kitchen" I felt so at home, that I finally had a connection with someone like me. Little did I know where that one magazine, than another, than her book than another. Well you get my point, but the most important thing I happened upon was that there were many women like me. I haven't really meet anyone around where I live that enjoy all the things I do. So I felt connected, even if it is long distance, to what I have always longed for, and that is ideas, many ideas and creativity. Enjoying the old fashioned ways along with saving the planet and being organic and just enjoying the simplier things in life. Not forgetting where we are from and how we started.

A friend told me about MJF. She said I HAD to 'get into the MJF thing' because she thought of me when she first picked up a magazine. She was right on. I don't relate to just a few MJF concepts and ideals, I live it in so many ways. Upon opening up my friend's books and magazines, I felt like my spirit had finally come home after having been on walkabout for several years.
I was deeply involved with the craft publishing business in the 80s-90s, having freelance designed for Better Homes & Gardens, other magazine and book publishers, and I self published also. It was a time when 'Country' was ten kinds of HOT. Mary Emmerling was a big influence in decor. I still have and love her books. I lived in Ohio at the time, a hot bed for country culture. I moved back west and to my family roots in ranching. I happily got lost in the isolated lifestyle, having gotten burned out creatively. I needed a rest.
In the meantime, the crafting world was in flux. Trends come & go. Martha was big but there was still a lack of identity and leadership in the creative sector (in my opinion). Special edition magazines died on the vine, very few new ideas blossoming. There was a very real shift afoot...but it was yet to happen. My own creative energy returned but an outlet for what I do was yet to make itself obvious and available. I did get involved in gemstone jewelry (who didn't?) and did very well, but publishing is my calling - specificall design and concept work. This is where the good Lord once again stepped into to guide me on the right path. Mary Jane's Farm is just where I have been hankering to hang out personally and professionally. It is a healthy, art appreciative, kind world. All the things I've loved over the years are here in the here & now again...Tasha Tudor, Mary Emmerling, Martha Stewart...Gardening, people with names and homes in business instead of glass buildings and corporate colors being the face of American business. Creativity is the home of all great ideas whether it is ion science or art. The blending of both is what I see in Mary Jane's Farm. It to me is full circle thinking made of people holding hands...making that circle. I can't fully express the epiphany I'm experiancing. | As a person who loves home, I gravitate toward that section in any bookstore. Several years ago Mary Jane's first book caught my eye at Barnes and Noble. It was a little expensive for me, so I didn't buy it the first few times I looked at it. Finally I had an inspiration. I could justify buying the book if I shared it with my mom, who is in her eighties and somewhat confined to her home. I knew if I bought it she would love it as much as I did. So I did and she did. In fact she bought copies for several of her nieces who love it too. We bought the magazine as the issues came out. This past Christmas, my sister-in-law, who had just discovered Mary Jane's Farm, gave me a subscription. I still share each issue with my mom, and now my daughters as well. |

+*+*I was facinated with MaryJanes living environment that is an exciting mix of personal style, fantasy and just old fashioned real life goodness. Her romantic way of life and easy style from home to fashion interest me. I would LOVE to see MaryJane make her own clothing line. I collect vintage white dresses and hats and I would purchase..."MaryJane" Bonnets.....aprons....dresses.....nightgowns....even boots and work gloves if she made them. I had actually been given the books by my daughter when they had first come out. I didn'nt come onto the forum until Cheryl introduced me to the site. Have been hooked ever since. The books are on my nightstand as I find myself looking through them each evening, reading and finding something else I want to do next.

I came to Mary Jane's because it is my heritage . . . the way I was raised . . .it's in my blood!!! I have enjoyed the forum so much because there is a kindred spirit that cannot be found anywhere else!
In the "OUTPOST" book on page 55, there is a WONDERFUL picture of a little barefoot girl . . . she has had a busy day!!!
That picture is a reminder of me and my life on a farm . . . dirty bare feet! I LOVE IT!!!
