Kris,
Where on earth do get all that energy!!!!!!! It makes me tired just reading all that you do. Yes we had rain last night about 1 1/2 inches and it is cloudy to day. My garder is just about done except the carrots and sweet potatoes. I was going to pull up on the vine yesterday but didn't get home in time. I was helping my dd finish moving. I tried to take up a lot of what she was going to do with the since she is prego. Her dh is great I think if he could he would have had her carried around Cleopatra style. We foun out yesterday that she is having another boy that makes 3 boys. Thye are He.. on wheels. My dh said they are just boys. I guess God knoew what he was doing when he gave me girls. i hope you ladies have a good day. Cherry are you felling better? I hope so.

Cherry- the germs sure are making their rounds! The other day, Nora was down with a fever and last night I was under my nice thick MJ Grange comforter and still shivering. I didn't feel too good. I slept well once I finally got to sleep though!

I feel some better today. My throat's still hot and tight, but it's not hurting nearly as bad, so that's a very good sign. I slept most all day yesterday, woke up when Brian and La got home and had some chicken noodle soup and deliciously cold cantalope. Really hot things and really cold things make my throat feel better. Alee, my doctor said that it's getting really strange, the things he's seeing, especially the viruses. He said that not so long ago, if he had a patient come in with certain symptoms, he knew just from the symptoms what they had and the test would confirm it. Now, though, the test doesn't always confirm what should be a straight-forward diagnosis and that this is just scary. He mentioned the swine flu and how he believes it's gonna hit harder this year and sooner than the CDC is prepared for it. I don't know, ya'll. I'm very much an optimist, but all of these mutating viruses are a bad sign in my opinion. With all of the medical technology and knowledge out there, you'd think things would be under control and easily eradicated. But nature continues to survive and evolve (or mutate) to do so. Ugh, I can't think about it too much!

We've had some rain, too. It's cloudy now and the cicadas are singing up a storm! I need to get out there and pick more tomatoes. That's the only thing I have left. And I'm hoping Brian can get out there and plow this week-end. I'm gonna try pumpkins, too, Kelly. I have a little volunteer pumpkin vine growing by the pool, mixed up with a passion flower vine. And of course some turnip greens later on. Kris, I know I couldn't keep up with you! Aren't you thrilled that your garden's given you so much? I seem to recall you were somewhat worried you might not harvest as much this year with our crazy weather we've had.

Tina, how old are your grandsons? When's your daughter due? I agree with you about boys. And I know that's why God gave me a girl! She has more friend-boys than girls and I tell the mama's of those boys often that I don't know how their nerves stand it! La's always been a tomboy, but at 17, she's settled into her girliness and lets those friend-boys of hers do all the daredevil stuff.

Kris, is Kansas still enjoying school? Kelly, how's Abby doing?

Alee, I hope you and Nora feel better, too!

Cherry- Nora seems to be doing better, I on the other hand am miserable. I would give just about anything for someone to come watch Nora for me so I could rest and sleep the day away. Good thing she is a good little monkey most of the time! ;D

Cherry- There is some strang virius out there. kind od makes you want to stay home, but then you would catch everthing when you do go out. My grandsons are 3 and 2 so the new one will be here on DEC 30th. C-section. My dd asked if I was just going to be her slave in Jan. I told her that I would if she promised me that it would be the last time.lol Between my dh and myself we have 7 grandchildren with 2 more on the way. CRAZY!!!!!! I am glad the your dh and dd are taking care of you. Sounds like you will be on the mend soon.

Alee- if I was closer I would come and get Nora and she could hang out with me and the boys for a while. I hope you are getting plenty of rest!!

LOL, Kris, about wanting the guineas gone "but not that way". Are they edible?

Oh, gosh, y'all! I'm sorry to read that so many of y'all and your kids are sick. I hope y'all bounce back soon. Oh, I am praying for y'all. Alee, I hope that you will somehow be able to get enough rest!

Kelly, I'm glad that Justin had fun on vacation and that y'all are staying connected. That's a good thing! Hope you get to do some fun MaryJane projects now that the kids are back in school!

Wow, Tina, three grandsons! I have often heard that there is a special place in heaven for moms of three boys! But comparing raising a son to a daughter, myself; I think that a daughter is more labor intensive. LOL!

Cherry, that is scary what your doctor said. I guess we need to arm ourselves with germ-x and anti-bacterial wipes!

Can't wait to see photos of y'alls pumpkins! I hope someone grows "the great pumpkin".

Oh goodness, ya'll. I am not usually afraid of germs and hardly ever get sick, but all this talk about viruses and flu bugs is scaring me! Mrs. T. is leaving for the V.I. the middle of Nov. so I won't have to go anywhere then. I think I will just hibernate here. But then there's the grandkids. And aren't they the best carriers of germs when they are around all the kids at school and sick all the time? I think I'll invest in those little face masks. I hope they make millions of them. It just seems like every year there are more and newer strains of bugs to deal with.

I am glad you're feeling better, Cherry. It is no fun being sick. And with all those tomatoes that need picking, too. What are you thinking, girl!

Alee, I know it's hard with a little one when you're not feeling good. Hopefully when she takes a nap you can crawl in bed, too.

Yes, Kansas is liking school so far. She rides the bus in the afternoons now. She's the last kid on the route. She fell asleep yesterday! But she is liking it. I hope Abby likes her school and teacher, too.

Tina, I have 5 grands and only 1 is a boy. I thank the good Lord that boy lives in Indiana!! He is all boy through and through. He wears me out the few times I see him every year. So I know what ya mean.

People eat guinea all the time. It's a darker meat than chicken. But like a delicacy in a lot of countries. It was the secret ingrediant on Iron Chef once. I wish I remembered how it was done now.

Ya'll, next year all I'm growing to sell at the market is CORN! That's all people want right now. I'll plant like 5 rows then every 2 weeks plant 5 more.Silver Queen and Hickory King. That's it. Well, maybe beans, too. I always sell lots of beans. I just need to have 100' rows of 4' tall raised beds. Then it would be perfect. But I picked 19 dozen ears of corn today. Really more because I always put 13 in a bag. There have been these 2 people that call all the time wanting to know if the corn is ready yet. So they were both there today and bought every single ear I had! I already had it all bagged up and ready. But I can make more money selling corn than I do anything else. So next year, mostly corn here.

I am so worn out. It's been way too hot. And I am tired. I hope every one has a great restful night.

Kris

Oh, I forgot to say I found an easy soft goat cheese recipe. I might have mentioned it. But I made some this morning. It was really easy to do. It's sitting out for a day til in the morning draining with salt. Then tomorrow I will unmold it and salt it again and let it set out til it cures. Then it says it's good on salads or spread on crackers. I'll let ya'll know how it tastes soon.

I feel like crud again today. I had a bad fever last night. I couldn't get warm so I took a hot bath and ended up falling asleep under my heavy MaryJane comforter still shivering. This morning I woke up with no blanket on and not cold. Normally I would feel half frozen. So I think it is safe to say that I still have some fever burning. I hate to miss work but I think I might have to!

Oh, Alee, I am sorry that you are so sick! You must get rest. Can your mom or a relative take care of Nora for a while? I wish that I could help you out. I really do! I am praying for you!

LOL! Tina! Having to wear shoes during winter. It is a bummer! I made a friend on the playground the other day and she is from New Orleans. She was complaining about our winter here! I was like, "LSU girl say wha?" I had to tell her about South Dakota winters. That scared her straight!

Cherry, I hope that you are on the mend now! Oakley was just telling me today in the car how much she enjoyed the interesting stories that you told on our way to and from Kris'. She was like, "I couldn't go to sleep. I didn't want to miss ANY of it!"

Anyway, we are about to go to the beach! This is the last two days of snapper season. Y'all have a great weekend!

Nikki, I hope ya'll catch a bunch of snappers. That sounds so good. And I think I am ready for some winter here!I am so not liking all the sweat and having to peel clothes off and just being wet all the time. I just walk outside and start sweating. I seem to recall me saying last winter I would not complain about the heat. Ooopppss! Just did. Sorry.

2 down, 5 to go. I looked outside earlier and all the boy goats were out in the field. They'd gotten through the gate in between the barn and the shed. I need to wait for the SIL to get home to help me put some chicken wire on the gate. I am scared of my cows, ya'll. I have to whack Mazie Mae on the head to keep her from head butting me. And she has a BIG ole head, ya'll. I am too old to be getting hurt anymore. I can't turn my back on the cow. But I don't want to go through the snakey overgrown hay field.

So anyway, I called my friend who had bought 2 of the boys and told her she has got to come get them now. So she came out with 5 of her 6 kids and one of her very expensive registered Australian show pups. I had no idea she brought that dog. And Bubba was out. All the kids piled out of the truck and then there was this dog, then all of a sudden there's Bubba all over the poor dog about to kill it! He came out of nowhere and attacked her. So we all jsut went crazy trying to get him off her. She ran in the garage with Bubba in how persuit. He got her again. I had a basket of corn shucks I was going to use to catch the boys with and threw that at Bubba. He took off. Jennie got the dog back in the truck. She was ok but shook up. I was very shook up. I just had no idea they brought that dog out here. Bubba hates other dogs. He tries to kill them. Abby can't bring her dog out here and it's a girl, too.Bubba's just crazy. I can't even take him to the vet. I have to keep him in the car and slip him in the side door real quick so he won't see another dog. I just called and she said the dog's ok.

So I have 5 more boys left. My SIL called and wanted to know how much I was selling them for. And the roosters, too. So maybe he'll get the rest of them sold for me. That would be nice. And it's not the old hay field that's making Sadie's milk taste bad. She's been in over 2 days now and it's still awful. I might have to just dry her up soon. Or keep giving it to the chickens.

I know what you mean, Tina. I probably will go overboard again next year. I always do. I would not know what to do if I could only plant a little garden.

I haven't done much but snapped a bunch of beans and shelled a bunch of peas. My parents are coming up again tomorrow so I'll have to cook food. I have plenty to cook, thank goodness. I picked some corn yesterday and cut it off the cobs and it's waiting in the fridge now.

I hope Alee and Cherry's feeling better.

Kris

Hi Nikki and Kris- Still feeling crummy, but coping. Unfortunatly my family is 2 hours away so I don't have anyone that can spell me in regards to taking care of Nora. But she is doing great today. She has been finger painting with her watercolor set and watching movies. She even took a nap for a while :D

Hey guys, Sorry to hear about all the sickness, I wish you all a speedy recovery.
My mom and I canned 24 jars of plum jelly yesterday. I was a sticky mess, but boy was it good. I bought a case of plums at a fruit and veg. distributer down town, noe of the local markets had any. They were yummy and made great jelly. I love plum jelly. I would like to know how you processed your jalenpenos Kris, I have a bunch that I have picked and want to can them, to put on nachos and stuff. Let me know if you don't mind. Abby is loving school, and I am settling into a routine. It was nice to sleep in this morning. My pumpkins are growing good, I put some chicken poop soup on them the other day and they put on a few inches of growth, I can't wait for them to bloom. Chicken poop soup: chicken litter and water, let stand overnight, pour to fertilize. Yes it is gross and smells but my aunt swears by it. Never put it on anything I eat, but a lot of people do. I hope this will grow the best pumpkin ever! Have a great weekend, I was outside this morning washing the dogs, the humidity was low and there was a breeze. Love the weekends!!

Good morning all. My parents were here for the weekend and just left. My step dad is having hip replacement surgery Tuesday so they wanted to come take his mind off of it for awhile. I cooked all weekend. Ate like a pig. But I enjoy it. We went thrift store shopping yesterday in Dayton. Kelly, you should go. There are 2 really big thrift store plus a huge Goodwill, too. We went to all 3 and found some good stuff. I always look for kids clothes and found some really cute things for the girls. At the first store I found 4 really good farm books. One is a collection of farm stories from families back in the 50s up. It's just like readiing people's post on here. The cover has a lady in the garden wearing shorts and she has on white high heels! Too funny! Yep, she's a farmgirl for sure. We had a good time shopping but I was worn out. I don't shop alot but when I do I really do. So I will probably take a Sunday afternoon nap.

Kelly, to can peppers just slice them up and put in hot jars. Have your vinegar boiling and ready to pour into the HOT jars of peppers. Have your lids in almost boiling hot water, too. And just seal them up. That's it. No processing at all. They self-seal when they cool. That's about the easiest thing to can. I made several dozen jars of plum jelly last year. I love it and it's so pretty in the jars, too.

I hope Alee and Cherry are better now. And I hope Nikki had a great time at the beach.

I picked a basket of tomatoes this morning and a few squash. I pickes a bag of peas for my mom to take with them. And okra last night. I think I am done with that garden when the Silver Queen corn is ready. We'll finish fencing and put the bucks out there to fatten up!

Last night when I was out feeding the chickens and ready to milk a van drove up the driveway. It was my friend from up the road. He has Nubians and his very little puny buckling is sick. So he came to get some meds for him. So while he's here another van drove up. I said I bet they came to look at the goats. And they did. But they were looking for does. I said I had one milk doe left. So they came in and the lady tried to milk all 4 of them and could not do it. She fell in love with Sadie Mae and did get alittle milk from her and was so exited. But I really want to keep her. Anyway, she decided she didn't want a milk goat. I took her over to see the boys and she just loved the only wether, Spot. So they are almost done with the little shelter they've been working on for a few goats and will be done by Monday. They have electric fence ready. So they will come back and get him. I said they were all going in the freezer if no one buys them. That gets 'em every time! But they really are. So I have one more sold! He was just loving on her, too. He's a sweet goat. So they will get a little girl goat to be his friend real soon, too. So now I am down to just 4 bucks. I will use 2 of them to breed my does back in Oct.-Nov. Then they have to go.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Kelly, they really are so pretty in the jars. All nice and green. And if you throw a few red ones in it's really pretty. I keep some on the table all the time. My hubby pours the juice over greens. I just pour more vinegar in the jar when it gets a little empty. It never spoils with the vinegar. So it doesn't need refrigerated.

Be sure and wear gloves!!

How is everone feeling? Cherry and Alee are ya'll feeling better? Did anyone else get sick? Seems that When I go and take care of one of the grandkids I come home with a little sniffle. Maybe I am alergic to them.lol Thats all for now.

Tina, I went and got 2 truckloads of hay today. I had help so I took advantage of it. My 2 DD's and a SIL plus a grand. I think I might be allergic to her, too! We got it all laoded and stacked in my friend's barn in about 1 1/2 hours. Not bad. Heather drove, Abby stacked and Kansas turned the bales over while me and the SIL threw them up on the truck. That's a very important job, turning the bales over. She did good. So that's a little over 80 bales more. I'll probably need maybe 40-80 more for the winter. I am having to feed some now.

Yes, the peppers are so easy. It's on the previous page where I told Kelly how. Just make sure ya wear gloves. If ya don't your hands will burn like h...! Or like me you'll forget you just cut up a bunch of hot peppers and your eye will itch and ouch! But very easy and pretty quick, too.

No it's not raining here. I think we were tricked into getting the hay right in the middle of the day, too. She called and said it was all baled in the field and it's supposed to rain in an hour or so and if I wanted it I should come now. So we did and the only clear blue part of the sky had the sun in it the whole entire time. And no, it never rained then and still has not rained.

The guy that owns the land all around me is finally cutting his hay fields!!!! I am so happy. I know that's why there are so many snakes. He's just now mowing. I don't know if he'll bale or he's just bush hogging it all down. I don't care what he does. He's just making this ole gal happy.

Ya'll, I have had to use my hubby's Dial soap the last 2 nights to shower with. I am not liking that. I am out of all my body wash and keep forgetting to get more. But I have made the home made laundry detergent. Love it. I just made the dishwashing detergent. Used it 3 times so far. Love it. I just made the toothpaste and deodorant today. Brushed my teeth twice. Love it. And just showered and used the deodorant. I'll tell you tomorrow if I love that! I do like that it's a powdery deodorant. But I'll see later. I also use a homemade peppermint lotion that I really love. So now I need a homemade body wash. Anyone know a good recipe for one?? I know I am smellin' pretty darn good at the moment. Oh, and also a homemade moisturizer, too. I really love that.

Are you totaly exhausted? I would realy love to know what kind of vitamins you take!!! we have ceyenne peppers do you put them up the same way? And do you just use vinegar? How about putting green tomatoes in with them? I am so glad that you are my google person.

What is on your agenda for tomorrow? I have to work on my business tomorrow. I would rather be thrifting. Hmmmm... that would make a great bumper sticker.

I don't think you can put tomatoes in without having to hot water bath them. I could be wrong, but tomatoes are acidy and need either hot water bath or pressure. I did do green tomato pickles last year and had to do a hot water bath. Also the okra pickles. So the peppers are just plain vinegar. I need to get my Stocking Up book out and look. Yes, any kind of pickles or tomato anything has to be put in the hot water bath. But not plain old peppers in vinegar.

Are there any good thrift stores in Watkinsville? I have to go see Mrs. T. tomorrow. I haven't seen her since Thursday. I talked to her today and I had to almost holler in the phone. And she's getting so forgetful. And that darn "contest" she entered I think in Feb. is still sending her stuff plus has sold her name to 1000's of other "contests" and she thinks they are all the same thing. Oh I hope I'm not like that at 92. Poor thing. I have to admit I have gotten her mail several times for her and have kept all those stupid things from her. She gets stacks every day. It's awful. The lady at the bank said there's a man that has sent 1000's of $ to these contests. Don't ever enter them. All they want is money. And they know she's old, too. They say it's very important that she replies promptly and she does. It's horrible. I did get her to send them a letter telling them to stop sending her all this trash but she's forgotten and is still sending money. It won't stop for a few more weeks. If at all.

I hope you get all your business taken care of. And have a great day. I'm going night night.

Hey everyone! I had a good day. Much easier that yesterday. The house was nice and mostly clean. Went out to dinner with Mom and Doug at a Chinese place and I think they use MSG. I have the WORST headache right now! Ugh! Just when I was feeling human again too! I am almost glad I will be working tomorrow. A little time in a different environment! :D

Good Morning!
Very pretty morning here today. I think the little rain we had this weekend made everthing clear and very pretty.

Kris- I will try just the vinegar for my dh peppers. Thanks. Poor Mrs. T. I bet she is just confused. She is lucky to have a neighbor like you. Does she have children? It might be time to have someone live with her. I know how confused an older person can get. My Dad had the big A. I cant even spell it it makes me cry. We knew it was time for someone to move in and thelp him when some local church sent people out to witnes to neighbors. They came to my Dads house and told him that his home was not here but in heaven. Now you and I would understand that but, my Dad was just confused enough that when my brother came over to make sure he was ok for the night he found him wondering the street in his subdivision with his dog because that wasn't his house. SAD!!! So that all said I am glad you are checking on her.

We have quit a few thrift stores in Watkinsville and Athens. Sigh!! i wish I could go today.

Alee, glad to hear you are feeling better(except for the MSG headach) that is nasty stuff. Is the weather good there?

Talk again later,
Tina
