Hi Tina!

The weather is excellent! Yesterday was just beautiful and today is much the same! A perfect 73 degrees outside. I woke up cold this morning though and expected to see frost on the window. Crazy, right?! I started thinging "Maybe the animals aren't nuts and the early winter coats were a good idea (both horse and dog have been shedding like crazy!). I also am thinking I might be buying that winter horse blanket a bit earlier than I thought!

Oh to be in Montana. Did you know that my brother was born in Montana. I think Great Falls. You know Air Force brat. Can't remember all the cities. It is 89 to day. I am so ready for Fall. You know trips to the mountais, leaf peeping, apple picking, fall festivals, etc. My favortie time of the year. How is Nora? She is such a cute little muffin. How does she like day care? My 2 grandsons started pre-school today. I am taking care of them this evening. I think we will bake cookies. I made 2 quilt tops today. I am trying to build up my inventory. I think I will be working on my business all week. my goal is to have everthing in plce by October 1st. How is the job? And how is Tala? I think she is a beauty. Got to get back to work.

It feels like winter in my house right now. It started raining and is dark and cloudy, real wintry feeling. I love it. I am going to go sit in my chair and read. I did get some farmgirl mail, too! I have a quilt I need to finish but my sewing machine's tension is giving me a problem and I have no idea how to fix it. I've tried every which way but it's still loose. And I need it to make the mini aprons and the pot holders.

I went to Mrs. T's today and her whole dining room table is COVERED with all the JUNK mail she's been getting for the last several months. She was mailing some but I told her she did not have to send any more money. So she didn't in the 2 she was mailing. But there's no telling how many she's sent since last week. And her daughters are both going to be coming up in the next few weeks. I will be talking to them. I think she needs someone there with her all the time now.

I was going to til my garden today and plant turnip greens and collards but the rain beat me to it. Supposed to have showers all week. That's fine with me. I am tired of gardening right now. My heart just ain't in it. But I know I will and we will have good ole greens soon!

Tina, you sound really busy. What do you do? Sounds like you work for yourself? And you are going to keep the grands you're allergic to? Nice. Have fun! Make lots of cookies.

Hey Guys, Kris the rain beat me to the garden today too, I wanted to get my brocolli and spinach in! Oh, well we do need the rain, Glad you got your hay up, I have about 30 bales in my barn, enough for the 2 horses. I plan on canning the peppers Wed. I hope I don't get side tracked like I did today, I went curtain shopping. And of course I was successful. I also had to swing by the fabric store and I actually found fabric to make kitchen curtains YEAH. I felt like winter here too, my roast we had for supper was a perfect choice. I want you to come visit soon!

Kelly, I saw some pretty brocolli and cabbage plants and lots of herbs at Greenlife today. It made me want to plant broc, too. I love the taste of just picked fresh brocolli. And I would love to come see your place. Just let me know when! I love making curtains. I need to make some cafe type for my dining room window. I always feel like people across the road can look right in here at night. I'd leave them open during the day, though, so I can see the critters. There was one lone guinea baby doing what the Dumb White Guinea does. I thought no, not another dumb guinea!

I smell cookies in S. Ga.! And I think I can hear a few boys running through the house, too! I hope Tina's having fun.

Y'all, I love to come on here and see what y'all have been up to. The variety! And the shear volume of it! I am amazed. Y'all are amazing women! I'm so glad to have you as friends!

Oh, Kris! I can't believe that Bubba was so inhospitable to that dog the other day. He seems to be such a good ole boy; he is so sweet-tempered with the kids. - Wow! I am so glad that you were able to harvest that much corn. Things really do fall into place with a garden, even after all the worrying that it won't!

Kelly, that plum jelly sounds YUM! So glad that you got some pretty material for curtains!

Alee, you seem to be better! I'm sorry that your family is so far away. But at least that is not too far of a drive to make for a day trip when you need to.

Oh, Tina, I am sorry that happened to your Dad. About A. I have a friend who's mother has it. That is a huge thing to go through with a parent. I am praying for you!

Cherry, I hope that you are in the middle of writing that next great Southern American novel!

We did have fun at the beach and Lovin' Man got a respectable amount of snapper. Oakley and I had to most awesome day at the beach that I have ever had. The water was perfect and we spent most of our time face down with our masks on looking for shells, then we would feel like we were getting stung by jellyfish bits and have to go to the pool. Then we would get tired of that and go back to the beach and end up in the water again. It was lot so fun.

On the first morning I watched a pod of about 5 dolphins feeding and then swimming and playing. They were so pretty and really close to shore. We rode bikes to where there were alligator signs but we didn't see any. We did see hog tracks, coyote scat, and one really tiny, angry snake. We didn't even bother to kill him, but man, he acted ferocious.

We shopped for a place, but dang, Lovin' Man is so cheap. Really. He will hold out for the best deal until there are no deals left to be had. We drove by the house that I was so in love with and someone bought it out from under us by paying what they were asking for it. Oh, Lovin' Man can't get over that one. They could have had it for $15,000 less. I hope that he won't ever tell them that. It would make them sick.

Anyway, I hope y'all have a great day of gardening, sewing curtains, putting up preserves and cooking luscious meals! All that industriousness has lit a fire under me. I'm going to go for it full steam ahead and maybe the house will be a little more presentable by the end of the day!

Hi Nikki- Yes I am feeling a bit better. I am still very tired though. Sometimes I think it takes your body a while to really get better after being sick. I could crawl into bed and sleep for hours right now! LOL

Good morning ya'll! I hope this is a great day for everyone.

It rained last night! Looks cloudy this morning. I might not get greens planted til next week. That's fine with me. I think I have no desire to garden at the moment. I went out yesterday and pulled all the Siver Queen corn. I think I got about 10 dozen. Something had beaten me to most of it. Something pretty hefty. too. Pulled down the whole stalk. Maybe a racoon. So I got all I could find. I sold 2 dozen to a friend. Another wanted some but she went on vacation with her hubby and son. So I was going to go ahead and freeze hers for her. So I cut off 4 dozen ears and had them ready to put on the stove after dinner. Well, I just found the pot this morning on the counter. I plum forgot about it. I am so bummed. I went ahead and put it on the stove but it's a little soured. I let it cook for awhile and it tastes a little better now. Even Abby said so. I might attempt to keep it for us. I just hate to throw all that out. What do ya'll think??

Well, the hubby is home. He got here yesterday til maybe Thurs. or Fri. It's weird him being here in the middle of the week. I had to cook last night. I had laid out some pork chops so had those and I had picked the rest of the Hickory King corn and fried that. The rest of the squash went into a casserole. And some fried okra and cornbread. That cornbread was so yellow from the one egg I put in it. I use white meal but it was so pretty and yellow. So we had a good dinner. Fed everyone. Kansas is so funny. She loves the fat off anything. She begs to have everyone's fat from whatever meat we have. I used to do that when I was a kid, too. Isn't that strange?

I am so glad ya'll had a good time at the beach, Nikki. I would love to see real dolphins. I just want to touch one. They look so sleek and soft.

Kristin-the fat used to be my favorite part of meat too- especially if it was nice and browned. Yum! I still can taste that rim of fat that used to be on my mom's pork chops. Yummy! I know kids need a little more fat in their diets than adults do- especially babies and toddlers for proper brain development.

Well, I hope to have some fat on that darned ole steer soon. He's getting bigger every day. He and Mazie Mae got out again today. My hubby was out back weed eating around the electric fence and he said Mazie was right there with him. Then I saw Cowboy, too. So we had to have a cattle round up. Which ain't so easy, ya'll. Especially when one wants to stay out and they get separated. Cowboy didn't want to cooperate and went the other way. I found the gigantic hole they went through. Not really a hole but a doorway into the barn. Then right out into the field. Thank goodness it was just mowed. We finally got him back in and the hole plugged back up.

Now we're working on the garden fencing for the goat boys. I am done with that garden and want to put the boys out there. My hubby's home and we got all the fence posts out and the fence ready. We're just waiting on the sun to go behind the trees now. It's plum HOT out there! And the DD's to get back home. And the SIL, too.

Hi gals,
Whats up?

Kris- sorry about your corn. I hate when I do something like that. Which happens alot. Do you read Life on a Southern Farm? On her blog yesterday they found and had a video of a 14 button Timber ratler. That makes my little one we found in the garden yesterday a worm. Boy do I have fall fever!! I think it is all the stuff in the stores. They put stuff out soooo early. I know whenn I was Manager of our Sam's Club we put stuff out because we had no place to store it. But give me a break. Some of these stores have a great place for storage. Ok off my soap box.

Niki- Thanks for the kind words, but my Dad passed away on Feb 14, 2008. Which is my birthday. And to make matters worse it was my 50th! Just wait till I see him again he is so going to get a poke in the nose.lol

Well got to go and walk the dog. she is getting to be a porky yorkie.

Hey Tina. I see you survived the kids! And did you say you had a rattle snake in your yard? I was going to ask for the link to the Southern Farm but not now.

And I am so wanting fall right now. It was so hot and humid today. My hubby has taken 2 showers already. He has worked today, though. That'll teach the man to come home in the middle of the week! We started the fence up front but it got dark and was sprinkling. We got the posts in the ground and the fence up to the posts. All we need to do is the clips. Then the goaties can have at it!

I got 5 bags of corn in the freezer. But my freezer is still full! I don't know where I'll put that cow.

Good morning ya'll! I planted my veggies Tuesday evening, it was so nice out, last night we put in some bases for the benches around our fire ring, it was so humid in between the rain storms. the garden is so muddy, no weeding for me today :) I am working on my craft room curtains, they are coming along nicely. I am heading to the antique stores today with my sister, I enjoy spending time with her. Wish me luck, I need some stuff for my 1/2 bath.
Have a great day! Kelly

I am still very nervous about this, but it a start for my Quilt store that I want to have. You know bolts of material, classes, patterns, sewing bees etc.... hopfuly in 2 years I will be up and running. My husband makes all things wooden and he wants to have a space for that stuff.

This is a thread that absolutely must be checked on a daily basis! Ya'll are amazing!

Alee, I am so happy you're feeling better. You're right about it taking longer to recover. That's been a big reason for my absence. I'm so darn tired! And my sleep routine was all jacked-up and still not straightened out. For three days there, I slept through out the day and woke when Brian and La got home and couldn't get back asleep till 1 or 2 in the morning. So now I have insomnia and have been dragging myself out of bed earlier and earlier to try to get back into a routine. But old H1N1 is rearing it's ugly head here in Bama. The news announced this morning that one county school system is closing down today until Monday because of the number of infected students. They're going to Lysol every school in that county. Whew! I'm a homebody by nature, but now I have a good excuse! When Brian and I stopped at Walmart this past Friday, we saw two different people walking around with those masks on. And one of his delivery guys was wearing one last week. Is it really going to come to that? It's like a bad sci-fi movie!

Kelly, I looked at your pics of your new house on Facebook and LOVE it! I love the stonework and different textures. Brian wants to use a lot of stone on our next house. I am so itching to build another one! Whether our own or a spec house. Preferably our own, though! I want to get into that decorating mode, choosing colors and tile and countertops and light fixtures! Anyone know someone in the market for a log cabin?

Tina, I can't wait to visit your on-line store! I think a quilt store is a fabulous idea, too. We really need a store like that in my little town. It's a 45 mile trip from here to the nearest store with good fabric, patterns, notions and stuff. There's a Walmart that's closer, but they don't have a very good selection of fabric. I have a friend with a monogramming shop in town and I've put a bug in her ear that she should expand it to include these things. I believe she'd do really well and it ties right in with the monogramming. And, Tina, my great-aunt who raised my mama had the big A before she passed. She never had any children of her own and the last year or so of her life, she had a baby doll that she tended to. She had to go back into the hospital to have her leg amputated due to diabetes and she rationalized that she was there to have a baby. Much more pleasant and easier to deal with emotionally and mentally if you're there to have a baby. It was so bittersweet. I understand.

Kris, I'm so happy your hubs was able to come home and help you out! I hope he can keep up with you! And if you still need freezer room, I'll offer up mine! :) And I really hope you're able to talk to Mrs. T's daughters and they'll hear you out and take your concerns seriously. Brian got the hornet's kilt dead. That was a funny sight! I wish it didn't have to be done after dark so I could have gotten some pics of him in action! He had his jeans tucked into his boots, a sweatshirt, a workshirt over the sweatshirt, his hunting mask that only has eye holes, and his big thick hunting gloves. He looked like he was about to rob a convenience store! I was watching him from the window and he ran away only once! He said he thought he heard one flying around his head as he squatted about 5 feet from the nest, right in front of the in-ground bbq grill, and as he jumped up, he almost got tangled up with that grill and started stumbling around and almost fell twice and was 'bout nearly crab-walking to get away! It was too funny! I couldn't help but laugh as he came flying in the back door, huffing and puffing and trying to snatch that mask off his head but being so impatient about it, the mask wouldn't cooperate, thus adding frustration to his embarrassment. He growled at me that if I thought it was so funny, I could go kill them myself. So I hushed up. But after two nights of this, he finally got them all killed and cut the nest out of the azalea. I'm gonna take more pics of it later to share. It's pretty neat. I've never seen a hornet's nest up close.

Nikki, I wish I could say that I've been working on that novel! I've got to develop more self-discipline first though! Darn internet is like crack! But I have decided which of my stories I've started that I want now to finish. Maybe soon! And I do have a finished children's book that I'm just working up the courage to send out. I don't do rejection well. Ugh!

I have been busy, though. I did a listing this week and just closed one. Had a lengthy sales meeting Monday where we were brought up to date on all the new houses the company's about to start on. Been working on my binder of all of our subdivisions that's now being required of us by our broker.

Took La to have her senior drape pic made. (Tear!!) And setting-up a photoshoot for her "real" senior pics. I'm excited about that one, but will probably cry then, too.

And I've been trying to get all my flower beds weeded good before I lay down more newspaper and mulch. I'm still getting tomatoes, so Brian said he'd wait to plow the garden plot until they're finished. I may have to make that decision for them.

I've been meaning to get started stripping Uncle's desk, but keep forgetting to get Brian to bring it from the garage to the house so I don't have to work on it in this humidity. The humidity has been unbearable, but we've had a pretty good breeze.

We didn't get much rain here from Claudette, and they said this morning that it was gonna rain most all day today and into tomorrow morning, but the sun's still shining. I'm almost ready for fall to be here, but I've got one more beach trip in me just dying to get out! I'm off this week-end and it would have been the perfect time to go because our anniversary is Tuesday. But my sister had planned to have Cambree Ray's first birthday party Saturday (her b'day's the 26th) and I couldn't miss that. Then my exasperating sister decides this week that she's been too busy to have it Saturday and put it off 'til next Saturday and so now it's too late for us to get beach reservations unless we want to spend an arm and a leg, which we don't. We could still go if we wanted to stay with the in-laws, which we don't being as how, well, it's our anniversary week-end. So, I'll probably talk Brian into taking me to Pepper Place again so I can get some goodies to put up. All of the talk ya'll've been doing has got me determined to put some stuff up! And did ya'll see the recipe for crockpot apple butter? I can do that one, I know. And wouldn't it make a great hostess or Christmas gift?

Well, I think I'm all caught up. Chat with you girls later!

Hey Tina. Your store sounds so neat. I love quilts. I have one in here that I need to finish. I will when it get cooler. I hope you have good luck with your store. It's just going to be on line?

Cherry, that is so scary! Is that the swine flu? I don't watch news so I am not up on all the latest things. And I don't get out much. I guess when I see people walking around wearing face masks I will just freak out. That's crazy. But I hope they make a lot of those things cuz I want some!

That was hilarious your description of your hubby all decked out in his armor and doing all that. I would have been rolling on the floor laughing at him. I can just see it. Way too funny. You should have recorded that. I am glad it's all taken care of. You do need to post pics here of that nest. I just can't believe ya'll didn't know it was there this whole time. It was huge!

Congrats on the closing!! Money in the pocketbook sure sounds good, huh? I am happy for you. That's a good sign, a house selling.

Well, the fence is finished, the goat boys are in the garden, it's raining, they are all wet and they are happy boys!! They have food to eat! All is well in their little goat world. We finished it in the rain. But I am so glad it's done. It sure took long enuf to put up about 100' of fence. That's all. But it's done. My poor ole hubby is plum worn out. He's ready to get back on the road. I hate to do this to him, but stuff has to be done and I can't afford to hire someone to do it.

I love apple butter. My MIL used to make it all the time. It was so good. I can't make it like her but I do make it. I really did not do any canning at all. I did put some peas and corn in the freezer. But I still have so much from last year. SO next year I'll grow for us and put it all up. I will do apple cider when the apples are ready in Oct.

It's good to hear from you, Cherry. So glad you are improving. Take it slowly and get well.

Kris

Well, so far so good. The goat boys are so fat right now they can hardly walk. I got my hubby back out on the road. Boy, was he glad to go! Poor ole guy. But if he came home and just sat in his recliner, he's not last very long. It's so much better to be busy, right? I keep trying to get this through to him. We had to finish about 20' more of the fence today. It's so hot we're just soaked after a few minutes out there.

I went to see Mrs. T. awhile today, too. I stole some more mail from her box. I feel like a theif, waiting for her to go get her hair done and the maillady is gone, then I go get the junk mail out of the box. Today, all junk mail. I'll go again in the morning. I talked to her DD yesterday and told her what I have been doing. She wants me to send her some and she will write and get them to stop. She has power of attorney. Anyway, Mrs. T. said she's tired of getting so much junk mail. I told her I'll get rid of it for her. She is a mess. Her other DD will be here Sunday night for a few days. I'll have a break then.

I had washed clothes and hung them all out yesterday and went to town. While I was gone of course it rained and I had to put them in the dryer anyway. Shoot. And it's been raining today, too. It's trying to storm. It better be all cleared up by 9:00 tonight. The new season of Monk starts!!! I am so exited. But watch the satellite go out right about then. It never fails. I don't watch much tv but when I do we have a little rain and it gets knocked out.

So I will have to wait til it dries out to plant fall stuff. I don't mind as long as it cools off some.

Hey Nikki. Do you know Monk starts all new shows tonight at 9? I'll be there!

Tina, your store sounds fun. I love quilting stores. I want a book store, though. That's always been a dream. A book store with nice comfy seats and a coffee counter and a bigole fluffy cat in the front window. Nice soft music playing in the background. Nothing big. Just a small cozy place with good books. Maybe one day.

Kris

Oh my goodness, Kris! I didn't know that it was starting tonight. And dang it, we don't have cable. I will have to check the website and see if they will play full episodes soon. Those boys are too cute as Monk and Ambrose! I am sure that I will greatly enjoy getting a peek into his childhood. Makes me sad that they want to end the show. Why? Why, God, why?

And Kris, are your apples ripe? I bet they would make really good apple butter! The girls couldn't eat enough of them, could they?

Tina, I sorry about your dad, but you are right. You will get a chance to ask, "What were you thinkin'? Couldn't you have held on for just one more day?" And he will motion for you to look around at all that glory in heaven and be like, "I'm sorry, but I couldn't wait for even one more second for this!" Your quilt store sounds neat. There is so much beautiful, colorful, and funky fabric out there! It makes you want to sew! Have you seen Heather Ross's Mendocino fabric line? Oh, those mermaids and octopi are so fun!

Alee, I hope you bounce back soon. I know that you will be out with Tala and Nora and just kicking up the best time!

Kelly, I haven't looked at your photos. I can't wait to see them! Hope you toted home a load of treasure when you shopped with your sister. I bet that was a fun day!

Cherry, the Internet is crack. See. That is what happens when you start that virtual farming! LOL! Kelly said that your farm was so pretty and I believe her! But, y'all, I am being staunch in my stand against it!

Oops! I wasn't finished. Cherry, how is La doing? Is she still having headaches? Passing out?

Yep, that swine flu has made it into the schools and universities here. Scary stuff. Lovin' Man has a couple of carbon filtered gas masks. I'm thinking about pulling them out and wearing them to the store. Nothing like shopping while looking like a mosquito-headed freak to add a little excitement to life! - Also reminds me of why I planted tomatoes and wanted to can them. Somehow, I figured that if all the food was gone and no deliveries were being made due to the flu, then at least we would have tomatoes. Ah, sweet nectar of life!

My brother and I are planning a kayaking trip down the Locust Fork River this week. We will scout out the land that the Birmingham Water Works just sold for 5 million to a private citizen. And Swann Bridge has been closed for "repairs". Gotta see what all that is about! Maybe we will aquire us a scoop, like we did at the Indian Mound in Oxford.

Hi ladies-

Nikki- I am doing better- and will be much better when I go to bed early tonight! :D I just got back from spending time with Tala. That always re-charges my batteries. I am working on getting Tala to do her flashy trot with me running next to her, so I am getting some exercise! :D

We were supposed to get Chloe and Coryn today for the weekend but Chloe has a fever. They were going to take her to the doctor tomorrow. H.'s x didn't want Kansas to get sick. And 2 weeks ago when we had them Coryn had a fever and was throwing up. Those poor kids are always sick. I think they don't get enuf sleep and everyone up there smokes in the house and there are 7 adults and they all smoke. Plus they don't eat right there. So now I am worried about this swine flu. They go to Dade Co. elementary. This is only the end of the 2nd week. This whole thing is scary.

I got to watch Monk tonight. Did you say this was the final season? How can they do that? I will not be able to handle no new episodes. I have waited all summer for the new season and I just can't believe this will be the last one. Too sad. And I cannot get the web show. It looks good. I love them as kids.

My house is cold. It feels like fall in here. I love it.

Nikki, I hope ya'll have fun and be careful out there. Wear that mask!
