Oh no, Cherry, I will be praying for La. That is so scary, but hopefully, it will just be some sort of temporary thing that will resolve itself without intervention from the doctors. - Okay, I just went and read about head injuries on the 'net. They said that post concussion symptoms can last for a prolonged period of time, but they didn't say for how long. - That is really scary about her blacking out, especially since she has been driving. I am so thankful that y'all will be getting to the doctor first thing in the morning. I would hate every slowly ticking minute until I could get there and have assurance by a doctor that things will be okay. - LOL about La practically admitting that she is going to be just like you when she grows up. I can't imagine a better fate!
Kelly, Abby is such a little darling. Oakley had so much fun playing with her and with Kansas. That was more fun for her than a trip to the Alabama Adventure theme park! I think it was because they had what I would call "real fun". Just set 'em free and let make the fun for themselves, instead of handing it to them all packaged and labeled "fun".
Alee, we talked about you and other farmgirls while we were there! So y'all were with us in spirit! I realized that I don't know how to pronounce your name AND that I had never said it out loud, but when I read it to myself I say it like Al-ee, like from the TV show Kate and Allie. Is that right?
Kris, your zuc muffins were out of this world good! They were so moist and tasty. I've got to have the recipe. And Cherry your lemon bars were so good with their perfect blend of tanginess and sweet, I've gotta have the recipe. And Karen, oh, you know that grape salad will be a favorite now. I got such a kick out of Kansas trying over and over and over, ever so patiently, to stab that grape with her fork. I've gotta have the recipe!
Kris, I am so glad that you are doing well at the market and selling all of your goods. I know it makes your heart sing to be appreciated for your efforts!
Hey, I forgot some of the names of the animals. I remember was it Summer the chicken? And I remember Cowboy to bull. What was the name of your favorite mama goat and what is the cow's name? Can I put some of them on my blog?

Cherry, I'm sure ya'll will be at the doc right now. I bet she'll have to go for an MRI or some type of scan of her head. I would be the same way, worried sick. It is probably wreck related. I am thinking about ya'll and you're all in my prayers. Please let us know what ya'll find out.
Nikki, the heifer is Mazie Mae Belle and the goat is Sadie Mae Belle. Most of them are Belle's for the last name. I think it's because the people who built this house and lived here for over 50 years were Bell's. I just added an e to make it more femenin. How do you spell femenin? That sure doesn't look right at all. Yes you are welcome to put pictures of my babies on your blog. I would be honored. I can't wait to see them. I feel like I had a professional photographer here taking pictures.
I am having a rest day today. No gardening. Well, I might have to clean out the goat yards and put it all on the garden spot I'm getting ready for fall planting soon. Other than that, nothing. The grands are all here for the rest of the week. We have a family reunion in Spring City this weekend. My parents will be here tomorrow. We go to my SIL's on the river in Spring City. The kids love it there. They swim all day in that nasty water, but have the best time jumping off the dock. They get to see all their cousins they only see once a year. They go boating and tubing, too. They just have a ball there. They are all so exited. And all the adults sit around and eat like pigs. What fun!!
I'll check back later on La's doctor visit.
Kris

It is so funny how now that I have met you guys that I can read you posts and almost read them like you talk. I can just picture Nikki saying " that's so scary" It weird, anyway I will email you the grape salad recipe if youu still want it. Kris I'm so glad to hear you had another succesful trip to the farmers market, so you were able to sell the rolls? They sound so good! I need to bake more, you are an inspiration to me, all your hard work and energy. Love ya'll like family already, have fun at the lake! I know the kids will, eat extra for us! Kelly |

It looks like a storm coming from Alabama. The sky is full of big bad black swirly clouds. A little rain but not much yet. It looks scary.
I hope we hear from Cherry soon. I am like a nervous grandmother having to wait on news.
There are 2 people coming tomorrow to look at goats. I put an ad on Craig's list and had a boy call. He called again today and said they wanted to come see the 2 year old doe. They seem interested in her doe kid, too! They're coming from Elijay. Then I was at a friend's house today and she said she saw an ad on CL from someone looking for a doe in milk. So I called her and she's coming tomorrow, too! Yeah! I hope I sell them. Then next week my friend Jenny is going to come get her 2 wethers! Yeah! That will leave me with only 4 bucks and 1 wether and 4 does. I will take my friend's doe back to her tomorrow. I do not need all this milk right now. Then if I sell one more doe I will just have 3 does to milk. A much more resonable amount to milk. So I am very exited. Keep your fingers crossed for me, ya'll!
Kelly, I know! I feel the same way now. It's great to actually meet all these "imaginary" friends and put faces to names. I love it. I feel like my family has just grown.

Yes, I am concerned about La. Head injuries are scary things! But y'all we have some of the best doctors in the country right here is Birmingham, so I know that she is going to get great care and that they will be able to get to the bottom of these headaches and black-outs fast. I just emailed Cherry, but I know that if Oakley were in this situation the computer would be the last thing that I would think about. I hope she will update us soon!
Kris, I know that you have had you some storm last night. They actually woke me up this morning and I rarely wake for a storm. But praise the Lord! The gardens won't be dry and dusty now! Oh, I hope that you will be able to sell more of your goats today. That will lighten your load a little. Have you seen anymore of that snake or did your moth balls do the trick? - I really like that your animals have a last name and Belle is so cute. Do you have a dvd-rom player on your computer? I'm going to burn y'all some discs of the photos that I took while I was there and send them to you. - Oh, I hope y'all have a wonderful time at the family reunion. It sounds like a blast!
Kelly, that is so cute "feeding the goats trees"! Yes, I do really want that grape salad recipe! It was so tasty and fun to watch others eating it. Food and entertainment wrapped all into one! And that would be so neat to get to make a farmgirl trek to your neck of the woods! I would really like to get to see the houses that y'all build. They sound so pretty and original. Not many being built like that these days, I can tell you!

Nikki, Dumb White Guinea has a new name. He's been outside the fence in the garden ALL night and now so far today running back and forth. It's been pouring rain the whole time, too. So Chloe has been reading about jellyfish, how they have no brains or hearts or bones. So we named him Jellyfish the guinea. I just want to go wring his dumb neck!
Oh, this rain has been so good! It didn't storm but just a nice steady rain. A little thunder now and then. We needed this SO much.
Cherry, I have been thinking about La all night. I hope they didn't have to put her in the hospital for tests. I know this is the last thing on her mind right now. But I hope she can feel all the prayers and good thoughts being sent her way.
No more snake sightings. I smell like a gig huge mothball Bubba won't go in the milk room! Strange. I did sweep up about half of them but I can still smell it a mile away. I could probably throw them all away but the smell will linger for years now.
I sure hope these people show up now. I milked them all except Ocho and Faith. They are bawling out there. I'll go ahead and milk if they don't show up by noon.
Kris

Oh, girls, sorry to keep you in suspense!! Yesterday was, well, WHAT a day! But first, La's okay!!! We were there for hours so they could check and re-check her blood pressure, which I thought was really low because the highest it ever got was 112/66, but Dr. Dietlein said that was okay for her size and age. Doc suggested we go see a plastic surgeon because she believes that the pain in La's head is superficial and has nothing to do with her brain. WHEW!! She thinks that there may be some left-over glue in there that got sewed in that's pulling on things and that maybe there might be some tiny pieces of glass left in there. La said she'd just deal with it because no one was cutting on her head! So now we're butting heads (ha!) because if there is glass in there, it needs to come out! Pretty much the doc said La needs to eat better and drink more fluids and that if she passes out while sitting down or running or walking, to get her to the ER. So thank you, thank you for your prayers and I am so, so sorry for not letting ya'll know sooner! The doctor visit threw the rest of my day in a tailspin and I was late for everything else. I was in bed and asleep around 9ish. I think the worrying about La wore me out. Now it's back to the usual worrying!
Kris, I really hope those goats get gone for you! And Jellyfish is a most appropriate name for that silly guinea! Chloe did good!
I hate to be short when ya'll have been such good friends, worrying and praying right along with me for my baby girl, but I've got to get going. I have to catch up on what I didn't get to yesterday. Thank you so much, girls! I appreciate you!

I had to check back in to see if Cherry showed up yet and she did. Thanks for the update. So it's not her brain? Ya'll must be so relieved. Wrecks like this can stick with a person for a long time. We were picking glass out of Abby's arm for months after her wreck. It would just work it's way to the surface and she'd take it out. She may still have some glass still in her arm now but it doesn't bother her anymore. It's been 9 years ago. Thanks Cherry. I hope ya'll got some rest. Please tell La to eat right and drink plenty of water and to be careful. She's too precious to be sick.
The one lady from Whitwell, Tn. came and she got Ocho! It was so sad to see her go away. I've had her 3 years and she was just a few months old then. The guys from Elijay just called and said they will be here more like almost 4:00. One down, 3 to go.

Well, Kris, I am so happy we were able to "meet" Ocho before she went to her new home! I'm sure it was bittersweet for you to watch her go. Let us know about the rest.
And yes, I am so relieved! After the appointment, La and I were talking and turns out she was pretty worried herself about her brain. She was afraid she'd be sent to the hospital for more scans. But she was more afraid she'd have to have an i.v. They pricked her finger to do the bloodwork, and ya'll, I have never seen someone get so worked up over a finger prick! I had to take deep breaths and tap into my own irrational fears so I wouldn't snap at her to quit being such a baby! But that's why I was so bothered by her blood pressure. She was so anxious about the finger prick, you'd think her bp would be sky-high. And it wasn't. I was thinking about it later, and I really hope the doctor realized that. I need to get on the web and see what the dangers of too low bp are, but I'm almost too afraid to. Well, no sense borrowing trouble. She and her daddy are out clothes shopping, which I think is a HOOT! and I'm just gonna rest in the doctor's word that she's just fine.
I think I'm gonna be sad to see the rain go. I like it when there are showers through-out the day and there are breaks of sunshine between them! And the clouds have been absolutely beautiful! Gives me something to admire while I'm at subdivision duty!
Kris, I want your recipe for those muffins, too, and the rolls! They sound so yummy and wholesome! Kelly, pass along the recipe to me, too, for the grape salad. And for the lemon bars, Nikki, here she is:
1 cup butter, softened 1/2 cup white sugar 2 cups all-purpose flour 6 eggs 2 1/4 cups white sugar 1/2 c all-purpose flour 1/2 c juiced lemons
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a medium bowl, blend together softened butter, 2 cups flour and 1/2 cup sugar. Press into the bottom of an ungreased 9x13 inch pan. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until firm and golden.
In another bowl, whisk together the remaining sugar and flour. Whisk in the eggs and lemon juice. Pour over the baked crust. Bake for an additional 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until center is set.
I also add a bit of lemon zest to the crust part and the filling part to give a bit more tanginess. I like this recipe because usually I have everything on hand to whip it up. The fresh-squeezed lemon juice can be substituted for the bottled.
Kelly, I agree, now that I've met ya'll, I can "hear" you when I read your posts! Ya'll, we women are truly unique creations. I firmly believe that now. And when I think about when God created Adam and Eve, she wasn't last, she was the dessert! The best part of the meal!
Nikki, I hope we get to do more things together since we live so close to one another.
Kris, please enjoy your time with your family and get some relaxin' time in. And I can't wait until you and Kelly both can make a trip down here!

Ya'll, I sold Holly Berry and Baby Bella today, too. It was really weird to milk tonight and only have 5 goats. Then tomorrow I will take Jessie back to her home up the road and there will just be 4 then. I hope I can sell Faith she's so ornery. It's my SIL's fault. He picks on her all the time. The guy who bought Holly is just about 13. He has saved money to buy fence and goats and has researched about goats. He seems like a very responsible guy. He tried to milk her but she was being horrible for him. Poor guy. I told him to just grab on and don't let go or she'd the winner. He has to be the winner or he'll never get it. But she has her doe kid still on her so it's not such a big thing right now. He can just be practicing.
I am so sorry I'm just going on and on about my goats. I have just had them so long. They're like family. I know they all went to 2 good homes so I'm not really worried. I'll just miss them. I know I will be alot better off, too. Much less on me now.
Cherry, that's so neat La and her dad are clothes shopping together. She'll come home with bags full of everything! Men are such pushovers when it comes to their daughters.
Thanks for the recipe. I will post the muffin recipe later.

Kris, I love the name Jellyfish for the white guinea! How cute and appropriate! HA! Oh, they are so much fun to watch. I'm sad that Cherry can't have any because of the coyotes, and I can't either because my dog would never leave them alone. Glad that you are lightening your milking load! I know that is a relief for you even though it feels weird right now.
Cherry, I was so relieved to find out that La was okay! And what a great way to celebrate by shopping for clothes! HA! Like Kris said, I hope they came home with bags full to the brim with clothes. Lovin' Man likes to take Selena to Plato's Closet in Trussville. Have y'all ever been there? - Thanks for the lemon bar recipe! I will add that to my collection of great desserts!
Alee, I'm serious. I want to send you some tomatoes. Please email me your address. I am NOT kidding!
Kelly, I hope that you can get you a photobucket account and start posting photos. I would love to see your "girls" and their house again. Maybe your husband could draw up the plans and sell themo on ebay. It is such a cute design!
My son is leaving for the Air Force tomorrow and yesterday I spent time putting together boxes and talking with him about what he is going to take and what he will leave behind. His stuff won't be shipped to him until after tech school, but we need to do this now. Anyway, he wants to leave all of his books and I did pretty good about keeping my emotions bottled until I looked at them. We read a bunch of them together and when I looked at them, I realized that every moment that I have spent not being with him has been such a waste. They grow up so fast! I've had a lump in my throat that I can't swallow down and I'm just praying that I won't sob like a crazy woman when I drop him off. But I am comforting myself by planning a trip to San Antonio to see him graduate and hoping that he will be stationed in a really cool place where we can visit him often!

Oh Nikki- You are so sweet! The shipping would be astronomical! Next time I go to my parent's house I will binge on her garden tomatoes. My one remaining tomato plant seems to think it can still grow into something worthwhile this year. It has doubled in size the past month, but that isn't saying much. It still is half the size it needs to be to produce! LOL
Cherry- Glad La's brain is okay. Low blood pressure can cause dizziness and fainting. I would suggest taking her to a pharmacy and having one of those machines check her so its a more neutral environment. (less stress, more natural BP). And you did say the Doc said she needs to take better care of herself and eat more? Is she dieting really hard? I know this sounds weird, but when I was about 11 or 12 I had a bout with anorexia. I was eating about 1 meal a day in front of my parents. I would take a lunch to school and ditch it, I would skip breakfast but grab and apple on the way out of the house to eat on the way but I never at more than a bite or two. So my parents thought I was eating but I wasn't really. Then one day I passed out in the hallway at school. That kindof scared me back to eating again. But I was young and more easily scared if you know what I mean. Could La be dieting too hard and weakening herself? And perhaps she is old enough she is putting up with the dizzy spells? Just an alternate idea. I hope she starts feeling better soon!
Kristin- I am glad you are lightening you milking load. Are you keeping any of the goats? *hugs*

Nikki, I will be thinking about you and your son tomorrow. It will be a sad time for you. He's going to be in Texas for training? How long will he be there? Will you be taking him all the way there or is he flying? We should have talked more about this the other day. I think I'm still not believing you have a son old enough to be leaving home. And I keep forgetting to tell you how GOOD and sweet and juicy those peaches were. I say were because I think they lasted all of one day. The other grands came the next day and they were all devoured in just a few hours. Very good. And the pit fell right out. Chloe is drying a few so we can plant them.
I took Jessie, the horned goat, back to her owner last night. I am so relieved to have her gone. I have just 4 does right now and it's just weird. And really quiet. Sandy the Nubian is the noisy one. But it's very calm now. And I still get over a gallon of milk with the 4. I need to go to once a day soon. I still want to sell Faith. So I will just have 3 and that's all I want. I will eventually dry Abby and Sandy and just keep milking Sadie Mae Belle till February. She by herself will produce enough milk for all of us. She's big for a 2 year old first freshener. Very good goat. And tomorrow my friend Jenny is going to come get her 2 wethers. So then I'll just have 1 wether and 4 bucks. I'll sell 2 of the bucks and the the others will go in the freezer.
It has rained here all day so far and rained all night. The power went out about 8:00 last night and was still out when we went to bed about 11:00. It came back on sometime early this morning. I love it when the power goes out. It's so quiet and peaceful. Just a little candle light. No noise at all. But I was glad the AC came back on!
We had a nice day at the ruenion yesterday. My SIL lives on a lake and the house is up about a few hundred feet from the water. It was like night and day from the house down to the water. I was sweating like crazy up at the house but down by the water was like air conditioning. So I stayed down there and watched the kids swimming and jumping off the dock. They had a ball. My hubby rode his motorcycle up there when he got home. He rode back in the rain the whole way. I had to stay up and wait on him to get home. It was 10:30 when he finally got here.
So I just came to check in here a while. Then I am going to sit in my little corner chair and read my book I started the other day about the Bee Master. It's so good. Hope ya'll have a great Sunday!

Hey guys, I am finally relaxing reading up on the recent posts, we had the inlaws over and joes brother's family, we served them lunch, it was just sandwiches and lunch stuff, but really easy and good. The kids had fun exploring the barn and all the animals, they even climbed the rock wall we put up in the barn the little one was so lighr his daddy just pulled on the rope and he went up to the top, a little scared but proud of himself, he is 5. Kris, I know you a relieved about selling the goats, but man, I would miss them. Both of Abby's baby mice that we rescued died, one yesterday and the other last night, she was ok with it and glad we nursed them as long as we had, but it was still sad, I miss giving them their bottle. i am so glad to hear La is ok, and will pray for your son Nikki, we are proud to have men like him fighting for our country, the Air Force is something my boys dream of, It must be hard letting go. I dread that day even though it is fast approaching for me. Here is the Grape Salad Recipie: 8oz. cream cheese softened, 8 oz. sourcream, 1 cup sugar, 1tsp. vanilla, beat together until smooth, wash and remove 4 cups grapes(red, green or both from stems, toss into cream cheese mixture, sprinkle brown sugar and top with nuts. (I use walnuts) refridgerate until chilled, serve. So easy and yummy! Kelly |

Alee, I'm tellin' ya. Just say the word and ripe tomatoes will be flying out there, maybe not express, but what about priority? Not so expensive. Although, Barbara Kingsolver would have a fit! LOL!
Kris, I am so glad that y'all had an awesome fun time at the reunion. Oh, I know you miss your goat girls! I'm glad that we got to meet them before they were dispersed! But I know that you will breathe a sigh of relief at the lightened work load. Those peaches were the bomb! I wish that I had bought more of them. Now I know that Petals From the Past has the absolute best ones. Maybe we can make a trek out there when you come down to visit!
About sleeping with the power out. The other night the exact thing happened to us, power out at 8PM, so we went to bed. We usually have a fan going for a little white noise, so I am lying there in the absolute quiet and I can't sleep. I hear this beat, beat, beating. And I am thinking to myself, "Dang those teenagers! Why do they have to freaking play the stereos in their cars so loud?!" Then it hit me. That was not a stereo. The beating of my own heart was what was keeping me awake! It was very annoying. LOL!
Oh, Kelly, the thought of feeding baby mice with a bottle is just so humorous and sweet! I am sorry that they died but glad that Abby has been taking it so well. How neat to have a climbing wall in the barn! I love those! Do y'all go rock climbing and repelling? - Oh, thank you for the recipe! That will be a go-to treat to bring for church potlucks and picnics. I will be famous for Kelly's Grape Salad! (I always refer to the person who gave me the recipe when I tell the name of it; that makes it extra special).
A lady at my church has a grandson who is shipping out to Afghanistan very soon, and it makes me swallow very hard to think that my child might end up there as well. But I believe in what they have the military doing; I just don't know how effective it will end up being. At least they are trying and that is what matters. Oh my God though! Those boys are so young! Anyway, I am really praying that I won't cry when he leaves. I am so happy that he gets to have this adventure and will be given a mission and a purpose. Teenagers are so bored these days. It seems that their lives are put on hold for too long and all they have to fill up the time is video games and movies. His life is going to be exciting; that's for sure!

Good Morning Ladies!
Nikki- Maybe you should get a battery operated fan for those times when the power goes out? It's interesting that you could hear your heartbeat and it would keep you up.
I went to bed last night at 7pm. I was just wiped out. I haven't been sleeping well for a while, but of course it was a bit too hot in the room so I tossed and turned for hours and hours. Then when I was sleeping really well, my husband came to bed at about 1:30am so I got woken up and since I had been in bed for so long, I couldn't get back to sleep. So finished the night on the couch after a couple of hours awake. UGH. I sooo wanted a good 12 hour sleep last night. I think I need it!
Kelley- Sorry to hear the baby mice died. I once had two baby shrews that I nursed and eventually released to the wild. My dog had dug up their nest and ate most of the siblings, but I was able to catch these two. Your grape salad sound good- all except the nuts. I grew up allergic to nuts and even though I can eat them now, I am really not a fan. I never quite acquired a taste for them I guess. But I am sure it is delicious to those who like nuts!
I just got back in touch with an old boyfriend and found out he is in Kuwait with a national guard unit. I really appreciate all of our soldiers, but my heart just aches that he has to be away from his little girl for a whole year. She is just barely turning 6. Another one of my friends had to leave her two children with her mom for a year and a half while she was deployed and her youngest was only 18 months old at the time. I hope and pray that everyone comes home safe.

Hello, girls! Nikki, you and Nick are in my thoughts and prayers today. He is doing something he believes in and that's the most rewarding thing we can do during our time here. You are so right about this being an adventure and he is going to learn so many life lessons and gain such a perspective on other cultures and the world that so few are fortunate enough to experience! I am so proud, as I know you are! Your entire family occupy my prayers. Oh, speaking of peaches, Brian's still talking about those we bought at Pepper Place. I bet he'll make another trip with me down there just for those peaches!
Kris, I'm wondering just what you're gonna find to fill your empty hours now that you've found all of these other homes for your goats! Tee! hee! I don't know about you, but whenever I think I've freed up some time just for myself, along comes something or somebody to set me straight on that silly notion. But I have to, have to, have to set aside some time to tackle that dratted spare room. It seems I now have a "Honey do" list and that room is at the top of it. Well, it's the only thing on it really. But I'm in total agreement with him, just gotta get to it. Brian's baby brother, Chris, bought the house next door to him when the owner passed away. He also got all of the contents of the house. Ya'll, believe me when I tell you that there are some very disturbed people out there who live in a way that defies imagination! This poor man did not throw out anything. He would haul a trailer around and hit yard sales and buy out everything that was left at the end of the day, no matter what it was. (Funny how he never showed up at any of my yard sales!!!) Chris has found checks that the man never cashed. Bank statements that dated back 40 years. Just stacks and stacks of all kinds of paper stuff, like mail, newspapers, magazines, etc. There was a true pig trail through the house and a couple of rooms you couldn't even get into. AND the man had 5 tractor trailer boxes in the back yard crammed full along with 10 cars with some of them packed full. They have found some "treasures". There was a enough cast iron cookware, some of it not even seasoned yet, that filled three boxes that were about 3' square. And then there were some truly odd things. Like 3 sets of electric rollers when the guy lived alone. Chris and his fiancee' have been working on sorting through and throwing out this stuff for months now, and STILL the place is overflowing! So, after appraising all of this in disbelief, I made a vow that my little spare room WOULD NOT spill over into the rest of the house! That and Brian actually had the nerve to make a comparison between me and this poor, sick man! UGH!
Kelly, please, please post your pics of your chicken coop! I intend to tell Brian that a chicken coop is what I want for Christmas! And oh, so cool about the rock wall! I'm not one for heights, but I think I'd like to try out a good rock wall. And I'm sorry to hear about Abby's mice, too. But it seems she handled it like a trooper!
Alee, is a shrew like a mole? Or more like a field mouse? I'm having a hard time picturing them. About La, this child is so far from being anorexic it's almost funny! She eats constantly. The problem is what she's choosing to eat. Her diet mainly consists of ravioli, pizza rolls, Lucky Charms and easy mac. She's usually out for the evening with her friends before we sit down to supper and they eat Taco Bell or Arby's. But she has a healthy appetite. She happened to be here night before last for supper and ate two grilled porkchops, two spoonfuls of baked beans, two slices of buttered bread and almost two tomatoes. Then a couple of hours later she ate a bowl of cereal. The first thing she asks me when she wakes up is what can she eat. I know that really smart girls are able to hide eating disorders, but I also know this isn't the case with La and was one reason why I was so concerned about her just fainting like that. She is little. She's 5'4" and only weighs 114, but she can "out eat" these boys she runs around with. Now, she doesn't drink a lot through out the day. She has these little 8 oz glasses that she uses and she might not drink more than two of those during the day. She's never been one to drink a whole lot. When she was little, she got several kidney infections because she just wasn't drinking enough to flush her system out. But we're working on that now. I had the idea to tell her friend-boys that she needed to drink more fluids through-out the day so she won't pass out again and now they're all on her back about it! None of them want to be the one dealing with her falling out in the floor! She's out shopping with 4 of them today and I met up with them when I had to run to town. One of them had just bought an icee and asked her if she wanted one. She said she didn't and he started "lecturing" her about needing to drink something! I told him I didn't think an icee was the doc's idea of getting in more fluids and he said that every little bit helps! Geez, you just gotta love 'em!
Well, I should sign-off for now. Brian was so busy at work today, he didn't get a chance to eat lunch. Now that they've made this first round of lay-offs, he's had to be back out in the shop, welding. So I need to get started on supper. I think I'm gonna make my "non-lasagna" lasagna. La and I love lasagna, but for some reason he had it in his head that he didn't like it. So I improvised, using basically the same ingredients except the lasagna noodles, substituting egg noodles instead, and called it a casserole and he'll eat it. Silly man.

Hello ya'll. It seems like forever since I've been here.
Kelly, that's too bad about the mice. But aren't little farmgirls just the best? They might cry for awile but they get over it and on to something else. I think they understand life and death so well living on a farm. And what a neat idea to put a climbing wall in a barn. Nice! And I agree, you need to post pics of your very beautiful chicken house. And thanks for the recipe, too. I am craving it now.
Alee, I hope you can get some sleep tonight. I get so upset if I can't sleep. And that happens to me when I go to bed early and really get into a deep good sleep then here comes the hubby. ANd he doesn't care how much noise he makes or how many lights he turns on. Never fails, he wakes me up and it takes forever to get back to sleep. Then he hits the pillow and is fast asleep and snoring in 2 minutes. Dead to the wprld. He never even knows that I went upstairs to sleep. Men!
Nikki, I hope you got your son off safely today. I know you will miss him awfully. I am also proud of him for what he wants to do. He is truely a man now. You must be very proud of him.
Cherry, I hope you get that room tackled. I also have one of those. This computer room seems to get smaller and smaller every day now. It makes me ill to know there is so much in here but I just don't know where to start. I think I will put this china cabinet on Craig's List. My hubby will never know for a long time. ANd I could use it to make his motorcycle payment! He can't argue with that! And does La go to the bathroom right after she eats? You need to notice if she does. She is a little bitty thing. Sounds like she has a high metabalism. Sure wish I did. She just must burn up calories extra fast.
I went to the FM today. I picked a bushel of beans, a 5-gallon bucket of okra and a bushel of peas. I sold most of the okra and peas but only one basket of beans. So I am meeting my SIL in the morning at Cracer Barrel to give her this basket of beans. Then we'll eat breakfast there! I love CB.
Now I'm off to milk then eat dinner. Peas, fried okra, rice and corn. Yummo! See ya'll.
Kris

Alee, you can leave the nuts out of the recipe since they are just sprinkled on top. Abby is over the mice and begging for a hermit crab! AHHH NO MORE PETS! Cherry, I wish I cold purchase a house with all that junk to sort, I would have a field day in there, I love to dig in other peoples stuff, never know what you might find or learn about. Miss ya Kris. Kelly |

Alee, LOL! about the kamikaze jumps jumps of the voles! - I hope you have been sleeping better! What is it with men and a total lack of consideration for sleeping people? Kris, Lovin' Man does the same thing! Turns on lights. Plops on the bed. Yanks covers. Grrrr!
Cherry, I have a hard time drinking enough water. I just don't like it and you have to go use it so much when you truly start to try to drink at least 64 ounces a day. But at one time I was able to do it and I felt a jillion times better. I don't know why I won't do it anymore because it really does make a difference. - LOL about you having to clean out your spare room now that you have seen what a true pack rat has left behind. How can Brian compare y'all? And you are right. It is a sickness! I do not understand it. My grandfather was like that. He had a barn that was stuffed to the rafters with crap. There were 6 riding lawnmowers in there and none of them worked. It was bad.
Oh, come on, Kelly, a hermit crab won't be too much trouble and they are so cute! They don't smell that bad either unless you leave them out in a bucket in the sun for several days and by then they are dead anyway. One of our favorite things to do at the beach is to collect a bunch of hermit crabs, line them all up at the shoreline and then have a race. We love cheering them on and then we let them go.
Well, Kris, dropping Nick off was very anti-climatic. The van was late to pick them up so we sat around for longer than everyone wanted to, trying to string out the emotion of it all, but just barely masking our impatience to get the show on the road. Either he couldn't wait to go or he was doing the best that he could do to seem brave. I couldn't tell which. Basic training only lasts 6 weeks, last night he spent the night in Montgomery and today he will fly to Lackland Air Force Base. - So afterward we went to the library and the librarian was telling us that her son just went to Iraq last week and during that time their barracks were bombed and her son got so sick that his temp went way above 104. Anyway, just puts things in perspective for me. It could be worse. God is so good and Nick is in His hands and I don't have to worry. That is what I repeat to myself, but you know how emotions are, they can sweep over you like waves and overwhelm you and you could drown in them in you let them.

That IS too funny about the kamikaze voles! And Alee, I know you know this, but it will get easier leaving Nora at daycare. She'll adjust and then you'll be upset because she can't wait to get away from you! Hee! hee!
Well, I've been absent 'cause I did tackle the spare room! And I have about 1000 magazines. Geez! I keep them with the intention of cutting out articles and such that I want to keep, but we all know how good intentions are! So now I have to decide if I really need those articles and recipes and pics as much as I think I do or if I want to just donate all of them to the library. The other problem in that room is the Gold's Gym equipment. It takes up so much space. I bought it after Brian and I got back together to continue my work-outs since me going to the gym was part of what brought about our split and like all good intentions, it's been used maybe a dozen times in the past 5 years. I tell myself I'm gonna get back on it, but......Plus the darn thing is so much trouble to take apart and re-assemble and so heavy. I want to move it and the treadmill out in the garage, but Brian doesn't have the garage finished! I've just about talked myself into listing it on Craig's List. But I have to get it out. I want to refinish my uncle's desk and get it in there and I have a cast iron bed a former client left in a house I sold for him that I want to set-up in there. I can picture it in my head, I just gotta get the mojo to get it done!
Kris, Brian is the same way about being able to fall asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow! Irritates the stew out of me! Are you adjusting to farmlife with less critters? And I love how much you're harvesting! Makes me so jealous! I'm down to just my tomatoes.
And there is nothing quite as pungent as a bucketful of dead hermit crabs. Nasty!! How are you doing, Nikki, with Nick now at Lackland?
Ok, gotta go. Brian's on the phone giving me a list of errands to run! Happy Thursday to all of you!

Hey, y'all! I hope all y'alls gardening dreams are coming true!
Cherry! So glad that you tackled the spare room! Are you going to set it up at your novel writing retreat? I bet that typewriter will look great on your uncle's refurbished desk and with that iron bed it would all be so cozy!
I haven't checked my emails in a few days. I feel like I am going through the stages of grief. What is so bad is not being able to talk to him and find out how he is. You just take it for granted in this communication age that you can talk to anyone at any time, and now I am totally cut off. This has never happened before and it is huge. He left things of his that he wanted his friends to have, packed up his stuff in boxes and Lovin' Man is already tearing a wall out in the basement and making plans to make a den with a pool table. When he does that it will be like Nick was never even here.
But life has to go on, even when you feel like it can't. What tears me up is thinking about all of the things that I could have done better. I just want to encourage all parents and grandparents to be mindful that they grown up so fast.

Oh Nikki. I feel your pain. You tell Lovin' Man he better wait! And you will hear from him soon. I'm sure he has not got a spare second yet. They are kept so busy there. And hardly any sleep, either. He'll be so tired when he does get a minute he'll probably just fall asleep. I'm sure he's fine and misses ya'll awful bad right now, but thank goodness he doesn't have too much time to think about it. I'll be thinking about you and sending you good cheery thoughts.
Cherry, I wish I could get motivated like you. I really need to get this big ole china cabinet out of this room. It seems to get more and more crowded in here. And I don't like it at all. I wish you had taken before and after pics so we can see it. Is it done yet??
The girl that manages the market told me the other day she's going to come around to all the farms and take pictures this week. I said, "You have got to be kidding me. I am so ready to let the goats and cows out in the gardens soon and they're full of weeds and I am the only one that knows what's in them at this point and where it is and have trails to get to stuff and NOW you are wanting to take pictures?! Sorry, but I'll give you some pics I took when it actually looked like a garden." Good grief, doesn't she know this is not a good time to take pictures? The weeds are as big as the Hickory King corn now and that's like 12' tall! She can come look herself but she will not be taking any pictures unless she takes one of the Silver Queen corn or beets. Nothin' else.
I picked over a bushel of beans last night for a lady that said she wanted some way back when I first started getting them and I forgot. So I picked over a bushel for good measure. I will be going to town this morning and she lives on the way so will drop them off to her. I will probably pick more tonight and go to market in the morning again. Another lady wants all the okra I can pick, too.
Kansas starts school today! 1st grade. A few weeks ago H & J went to get her class and teacher info and were met by walls of water. Somehow the water pressure had built up and 8 classrooms plus the media center and gym were under water! In just a few minutes, too. So most of the classrooms are ready but the gym is getting new floors so will be closed for another month now. Kansas was ok with this because she said she can go to school and swim now! Oh what fun would that have been! I hope she's not too dissappointed when there is no water in the classroom.
Ya'll have a great day. And nikki, don't be worrying about your boy.
Kris
