Oh, Kris! So glad that you had such a successful trip to the market! That makes it all worthwhile! I'm glad that your garden is starting to really kick in on the harvesting front! - You are right about Tybee. It was so crowded that I was irritable by the time we got to see the water. It is definitely not the place to just pop in a bit and then leave. You have to commit to staying there, rent a place and ride a bike if you want to soak it in and enjoy it. We didn't get to go to the lighthouse. Weird about the fort. There must be two. We drove by Fort Pulaski but didn't stop.

Hey, Alee, I am going right now to check out your beautiful Tala!

Last night I ate a turkey, provolone and MY TOMATO sandwich. AMV watch out!

I went to the market this morning and sold out!! I was late getting there and was in the sun the whole time. I got down to 4 little baskets of peas and I said I would take them home and shell them and out them in the freezer. But one of the other vendors bought them all! So I did good again. And one lady wants a bushel of beans Monday at the town market. And a guy might want goat milk. And lots of people want corn. One of the ladies that got corn Wed. wanted more. She said it was so good. But if we don't get rain it's all going to just dry up. I went out last night to pick and even the okra was wilted. That's bad when okra wilts. We are supposed to have scattered showers all week, so I am praying we get some. We need it so bad. My corn looks awful. My squassh and zuc do too. This is bad, girls.

My kids helped pick beans while I picked the peas. They kept saying how their back hurt. Every time Heather would get up she'd say that. And she only picked about a half row, too. I was out there picking 5 hours Wed. She be dead if she had to do that. I was so very grateful for their help. I offered to pay them both but they said they wouldn't take it. Thay're both going to help me again tomorrow. What good girls I have.

Hope ya'll are having a great weekend!

Oh my goodness, Kris! That is wonderful! I am so glad that you are being monetarily rewarded for all of your hard work and that people are coming back specifically for your tasty produce!

We can't wait to see you this week! I just shot an email off to Cherry! I can't believe that we will get a meet! How fun and you happen to have some beans that need picking. How cool is that! I am going to my Mom's today and I hope that she will have her BIG pink straw hat handy as I would like to borrow it!

I bought you a bag of Chilton County peaches, Kris! And they are so yummy, juicy, deliciously-dripping good that you have to hold them over the sink to eat them!

Y'all, I had the yummiest dinner last night! I bought some lady peas (didn't even know about them and my need for them until I read Frank Stitt's Southern Table book) and I cooked them last night and made my cousin Ash's famous grits with some stoneground, blue grits by McEwen and Sons. Oh My Gosh, I ate so many helpings that I actually made myself a little nauseous. Ha! Those grits are out of this world good and no one else in my family will eat them. What is wrong with these people?

Cook 1 cup grits in two cups of chicken broth
use canned tomatoes or some fresh out of the garden, toss as much as you want in
one can of chiles
two slices of bacon, cooked and crumbles and pour a little of the grease into the grits
any kind of cheese (I like sharp cheddar, but have tried others, too), however much you want
You may have to add a little water. You know, just make it how you want.

I ended up adding the sauteed garlic, olive oil,and tomato mixture that I had made to go over pasta for lunch and then some extra tomatoes. Yum, y'all. Yum, yum, yum. I had it for breakfast this morning, but I limited myself to one helping.

Alee, I am sorry if it sounds like I am bragging, but I am in tomato heaven! A friend of mine sent several bags of different tomatoes over and Oakley and I had a tomato taste test right by the sink. We were dripping and munching and gorging ourselves on their luscious, tart, acidic goodness. It was pure summer.

Nikki, that does sound really good. I love grits any way. A friend had a grits cassarole that is too good. I'll have to try yours. Do you bake it or just add all that and eat from the pot? And those lady peas sound really good too. I am loving my field peas. I want some for the freezer.

I am so exited to meet ya'll! We're trying to get this place a little presentable. I will probably clean the house tomorrow night after the market. I work better under pressure!

We are picking beans tonight for the market Monday. And anything else that's ready, too. I am making feta cheese now. I am on my second batch. I will make ricotta with the whey when I'm done with this next batch. I can't seem to find my other big stock pot. That's annoying. I usually make 2 batches at one time. I hope we can have honey ricotta when ya'll come.

See ya soon! Kris

Oh my gosh! Honey ricotta. That sounds heavenly!

Please don't go to any trouble cause we are coming! Seriously. I mean it!

With the grits just cook it in the pot and eat it right out of it! LOL!

Nikki, apparently ricotta can't be made with whey from feta. I have made mozarella and used the whey to make ricotta and it did fine. But this didn't make any. So a whole gallon and 1 1/2 quarts of milk wasted. I am not happy about that. The chickens will be, though. I guess I could make some mozarella and then use that whey. But I will not have time now.

My daughters helped pick the beans for Monday market. I am so glad they helped. It makes it go by so much faster. And it's funner to have help! Kansas got lost in the corn maze. She's so silly. We kept talking to her and she'd get turned around. I think she was just goofing off, silly kid. And Bubba likes beans and peas. Jeff, the SIL, kept giving him beans and he finally just picked them off himself. It was fun having them all out there. I started picking peas but it got dark and I still had to milk. SO I will be back out there in the morning.

Alee, are people allowed to mail produce? I could mail you some!

Kris, many hands make light work and make it a whole lot more fun! Sorry that your cheese didn't make. I know that was disappointing! But the chickens will eat it and lay eggs and it will just boost that circle of life!

Nikki, I just picked 2 5 gallon buckets of field peas, several ears of corn, squash and zuc and another 5 gallon bucket of beans. We picked a bushel plus 2 big baskets of beans last night. I was so hot and stanky sweaty and it was just 10:30 when I got done. I took a cold shower and now I am all cool and clean. But will get all hot and sweaty soon. I have to be at the market by a little after 2. I have to stop at the dollar stores along the way and buy all the moth balls I can find. So when ya'll get here and it smells like a big huge moth ball don't turn around and leave. There's a good reason for it. And I think ya'll will be ok with it.

Wish me luck. I hope I sell everything I bring today.

Maybe we could all send poor Alee a big ole care box full of produce. I think it would be good. It would only take a few days to get there. We could send almost ripe tomatoes. And wrap them up really good so they wouldn't get smooshed.

Moth balls! No, say it isn't so! Are you going to be using them to keep the snakes away?

Dang, that is a lot of produce to have picked! Oakley came in with two tomatoes that had gaping holes in them. I wonder if birds could have done that! I'm mad. I may have to get my gun back out!

Yes, I think that I need to send Alee some of my tomatoes so she can have taste of Alabama summer.

Kelly, yay! Can't wait to see you and Abby.

Nikki, yes, I bought 4 big boxes and put 2 in the milk roon just now. I stink. And I just threw them in and was only there a few seconds. But I will be there for about 30 minutes milking.

Maybe the smell won't be so bad tomorrow.

Kris! Thank you, thank you, thank you for having us out at your farm yesterday! I cannot put into words how much I enjoyed it! Getting to meet you and Kansas, Kelly and Abby, and Cherry just filled my little heart with joy! Your farm is a wonderland, so full of love and fun. It is literally a kid's paradise and Kansas is such a lucky girl to grow up there! Oakley DID NOT want to leave. I think she would have let y'all adopt her and raise her so that she could continue with the fun! I especially loved getting to watch Farmgirl TV out of your picture window!

I have been downloading the photos from yesterday and laughing. Oh my gosh, there are some really good ones! I have to resize them and put them in an album for you to view. Here is the one of us all together.

From left to right, Kris, Bubba the dog, Kelly, Abby, Cherry, Nikki, Oakley, and Kansas on the tricycle. And we don't have black eyes. It just looks like that. HA!

Oh, Kelly and Cherry! That was awesome meeting y'all! What fun to get to talk in person! I enjoyed every minute of it. I wonder if we are all going to have yards full of guinea hens by next summer!

I am so glad ya'll got to come, too. I had a great time. But boy was I pooped after! I should have went out and picked the garden clean for today but I just couldn't. So I will go pick okra this morning through the sprinkles! I'mm making rolls this morning so I'll have something to take to the market. Ya'll forgot the goat milk. I forgot all about even letting ya'll taste it. Maybe next time.

It rained or really just sprinkled all night here and is again this morning!!! I am so glad it is. Everything looks happy again. Not all sad and droopy. It's great.

I am so glad ya'll had fun. I do want to do that again. Maybe in Alabama next time?

Ditto, everything Nikki said, Kris!! I really enjoyed myself and can't wait for you to make a trip down here to visit us so we can return your hospitality!

Alee, I sure do wish you and Nora could have been there, too! Nora would have had so much fun with Oakley, Kansas, and Abby, feeding the goat kids and playing in the pool!

Ya'll, I went to sleep thinking about those guineas and woke up thinking about them! I got up and put my tea on and was standing at the back door, brushing my teeth and deciding what I might need to tackle today, when a dang coyote came out of the woods and across the back yard! And the first thing that popped in my head as I went running for the shotgun, toothpaste running down my chin, was that if I had guineas that ol' coyote could have picked him up a nice breakfast! Ugh! I just don't know if I'm supposed to have chickens, of any kind! But I sure did enjoy watching those silly guineas! I was telling La and her friend-boy, Carter, about the one that kept running up and down the fence and I tried to make that hoarse croaking it'd make everytime it stretched it's head through the chainlink and La looks over at Carter and says dryly, "See what I'm gonna be like when I get old. (long sigh)"

I was a nice day! I am laughing at the thought of that guinea! I bet he is still pacing wondering how to get across that fence! Kris I wanted to try the goat milk, totally forgot, I guess because we were all so stuffed from the food we didn't even think about milk! Abby had lots of fun getting to know Kansas ans Oakley. She had a blast jumping in the pool and feeding the goats "Trees". So tell all Cherry did you get the coyote? You are so brave, I would have shot and missed for sure, one better not come around my place and get my chickens. If puppies are due, I better leave abby home she will cry for one for sure LOL! Can't wait to do it again, perhaps in Ala. then back up here to TN.

Cherry, a coyote was in your yard? I don't think I have ever seen one up close like that. I hear them out back running really fast and then they're gone. I have never seen them, though. That's cute what La said. Little does she know, right?

I bet ya'll were tired after such a long drive. That would have been a 5 hour trip. I get tired driving to town and back.

No, the guinea finally got over the fence. The mom and white guinea were in the yard just now with all the babes. There are 12 now. One must of gotten lost in the weeds.

I didn't even look at beans today. I just picked peas and okra. It's pretty fast to do. Sold out again. I made 9 dozen wheat rolls and 3 1/2 dozen zuc muffins too.

Dang, I wish ya'll hadn't mentioned that we forgot the goat milk taste test! Now, you just have to come down, Kris, and bring us some milk! And I'm so happy you sold out again! I understand fully why you are. You have very lush, beautiful gardens!

And the coyote...Kelly, I made the mistake of going out the back door instead of the front. I didn't figure on the silly thing stopping and was hoping to come up behind it, but it did stop and as soon as I cracked the door, it looked over at me and then took off like a shot! By the time I'd ran across the porch and down the steps and braced myself against a tree, it'd ran over the rocks, out of sight. I don't mind them so much, but it kind of weirds me out to see one by itself. Always makes me think it might have rabies.

Battery in my 'puter's about to die. Talk to ya'll tomorrow!

Ok, maybe I can keep it going for a few more minutes. There's a short in my adapter cable and I have to wiggle it around and hold my mouth just so and type "lightly" so it'll keep the connection!

I have to take La to the doctor first thing in the morning. Ya'll, she passed out yesterday. Fortunately she wasn't driving and was with someone and not home alone. Since her wreck, she's been having headaches just on the spot where she took such a lick on her head. And then yesterday, she was with her friend-boy Carter at his house, leaning against the kitchen counter, when she told him she felt sick to her stomach, then that she was a bit dizzy, then she just fell out in the floor. Scared the daylights out of Carter. She just finished up her monthly, so I thought maybe it could have been a touch of anemia. I called the gyn this morning and talked to the nurse, telling her that I didn't know if it was related to her period or the wreck. She talked to the doctor and called me back, telling me that Dr. Horne believes it's more related to the wreck. So I called La's pediatrician and talked to the nurse there who then talked to the doc and then called me back and said that they, too, believe it's related to the wreck and to have her there first thing. It's been two months since the wreck, surely if there were a serious problem with her brain, it'd have shown up before now? Well, maybe the headaches have been a sign. That's what got the ped's nurse a tad "excited", when I told her that La said her head had been hurting before she fainted, but wasn't after she came to. I don't know. I'm not very at peace about this and know I'm gonna have a hard time sleeping tonight. Especially when Brian said he's going with us to the doctor. And he reasoned with me that given La's fear of going to the doctor, her headaches could be worse than she's letting on. She's also worried that maybe she's blacked-out before and didn't remember it. Now that's an attention-getter! She mentioned it so casually that it made me look at her real sharp, trying to read her mind for the truth. I told her that surely she'd know if she'd passed out and she said that there have been times this summer when she's been here alone and had the same sick to her stomach feeling and dizziness, so it is possible. I don't know. I try really hard to not borrow trouble, but I am truly troubled tonight about this. Please say a prayer for us tomorrow. I'd greatly appreciate it. Her appointment is at 8:45.
