Happy birthday to Tina!

HI GALS! Am hoping that things will settle down here at HTF. I'm still running around like achicken with its head cut off. I've been purging my house and am on the 3rd car load to take to charity. So far I haven't missed a thing. I woke up one day last week and realized I gotta whole lotta crap around here and I'm sick of it. I think I will be posting some more Longaberger to trade as well. I'm tired of it.

The farmgirl food drive is going great. We are so close to 5000 lbs. And I've been off to a good start with The Mitten Tree thread as well. I haven't had any time to finish my story on County Fairs. It's started, but I kinda just tapered off of it. In 2 weeks June and I will be at craft shows...big ones...wish us luck. Jerry and I bought a new sofa ( ihate it, he loves it. But then, I liked the old one and he didn't). And I got a new dishwasher. Man, I didn't know what I was missing!!! I LOVE that thing!
My carpal tunnel is acting up bad again. I wonder if I'll ever be able to be an esthetcian again. That really bums me out.

Well time for me to hit the road. Gotta empty this carload and go to the bank.

Sept/Oct are turning out ot be busy months for me. I am looking forward to spending Saturday working on a local farmgirls henhouse, garden and planting a play yard for her girls. Farmgirl Emily recently dontated a kidney to her young daughter who was very ill. Now with winter coming, seems Emily could use some help getting ready for winter... My garden is moving right a long. Keeping my family and neighbors stalked. We are still having 90 degree days here and about 70 degree nights, so no frost yet. Although with the sunsets coming earlier I have been thinking I should get some additional lighting on the "girls", but so far they are still laying really well. Currently I am harvesting grapes and drying them for raisins.

oh hey there..I just now noticed the birthday wishes..thank you gals. I haven't been around the forums very much as of late. life gets busy, but I do appreciate the birthday wishes.
I wanted to say that if anyone here is up for a seed swap just shoot me an email... I am ALWAYS interested in swapping seeds..even if I get quiet here on the forums. Busy getting ready for the Holidays..and have gotten back to sewing a little now..got a sewing machine for my birthday thanks to my sweet husband... and am putting it to use after having not owned a sewing machine or sewn in 9 yrs.Keeping busy with home schooling and other mom type/family type things...otherwise known as Life. :0)
take care and if anyone would like to keep in touch via email just drop me a line.I don't always know what to say here on the forums very much anymore, but I am and have always been committed to gardening, researching about plants and heirlooms, saving seeds, and learning all I can about plants, horticulture, botany..that is who I am and who I have always been even before the Heirloom Mavens and even before I came across the MJforum ..but I just sometimes don't know what to talk about on here... but I am extending the invitation to any of you that would like to continue to swap seeds..if that is something you'd like to do..just shoot me an email and I'll always swap seeeds with you.
Again..thanks for the birthday wishes..appreciate them.

Happy belated Birthday, Tina!! Sorry I missed your day. Glad you had a good one.

Hello! ladies!! School's in full session and we are busy here. I am hoping to get some more things done for an upcoming craft show I am in.

Dawn~thanks so much for the link. That's where I found it. I hope to get some around Christmas, too. I haven't forgotten your owl hats and will get them to you soon.

Hope everyone is doing well. We are all so busy. My garden is still going. It's been chilly here at night but not near frost yet, thankfully.

Happy belated birthday Tina.

Just got back from a week on the Oregon coast. Finally had great weather the whole time. Did lots of quad riding up and down the dunes and coast. Ate a bunch and drank a lot of Mikes. Boy, good thing that is only once a year. Now after two days of cleaning out the motorhome and all the laundry, its time to get back out to the garden which I'll check on come Monday morning.

Our weather here has been nice and warm during the day but nights have definetly cooled down. Have been collecting and saving seeds. Found another seed book while shopping on the coast. Went yard saleing and found some nice things. Just reading up on all things about how to collect and save seed. Planning already for next years garden.

Time to prune back roses and iris and just put things to bed for the winter ahead. Just maybe I can get in a little more fishing time..hmmm.

thank you Gail for the birthday wishes.
well, I had a busy, but super fun day yesterday ..spent the day hitting garage sales in our area. I scored some pretty good finds. If you'd care to see them swing by my blog. I still have to get photos of the two vintage cameras I found though, but it was a fun "vintage finds" day.

Very Happy Belated Birthday Tina - (see your birthday lasts longer than one day)!

I have been busy also. I am not working still and probably will not return at all, but I seem busier than ever!

I am working on the mini aprons, they are just the cutest things.

Hugs, to all Mavens

I just got the garden ripped out last weekend, my youngest had a grand time destroying corn stalks and slicing the bad tomatoes in the air with a scythe!! What a mess the yard was. I canned peaches and jam last night and need to do another batch of tomatoes.

I wish I could say that I've been doing gardening things, but I haven't. My garden is grown over with weeds until I can pick all the pumpkins rambling throughout. I still need to go out and do cornstalks, but haven't had the energy. Out of 36 jars of tomatoes I probably lost 14 jars. they exploded in my cupboards so I've been cleaning those. I have NO IDEA what I did wrong. All I can think of is that I got bad jars. They were new.
I've been up in my studio trying to create but I feel as if I'm hitting a block. I have the idea's in my head but without a pattern I am lost.
All is well here. I haven't seen my kid since the first part of September so I am missing her. I do see June a lot but she is with sick children...wish her well.
Jerry has been farming more and more lately now that the trucking has dropped off. I am LOVING being a stay at home wife... I am keeping my fingers crossed that I dont ever have to get another job again. I'm really too busy for it anyhow!

Today I had some tomatoes that had ripened in the window so I made 4 pints of salsa. Never made it before for canning so hope it turns out ok. Also packing for Idaho Friday to go and see my son and the rest of my family. They said the weather is a little cooler so I think I'm prepared. The co op garden will just have to wait until I get back. The owners there said they would pick any tomatoes if they still ripen and we don't get a frost. I picked 20 pears off my tree and put them in a cold dark room to finish ripening. I either had to do that or let the darn animals get them again this year. With a lot of the stuff that went bad my chickens have eaten very well this year. Still getting 7 to 8 eggs a day. Sold four dozen since Monday. It helps pay for the seeds I'll be purchasing.
Dawn if you're speaking of creating a mini apron, I found it easier to just cut and sew rather than use the pattern. I think the pattern ones were actually too big. Anyway, a little glue does'nt hurt much. Play and have fun.

HI girls!
I feel like I've completely let ALL farmgirls down. Last year at this time we were posting fools, and now it seems as if it's every once in a great while. I've been going thru some personal things lately. I don't think I've been a very good friend to some of my friends. Sometimes I wonder if I even know how. Life just seems to get complicated sometimes. I really thought that as I got older that things, little things would just iron themselves out. Well they don't.
My garden is officially over. I'm so flippin happy about that. I've canned and had so many disasters that I'm not sure if I'm gonna can anymore until I can take a class. I feel as if I have the King Midas touch in reverse lately. Instead of the things I touch turning into gold, they turn into tin foil! Ha!
Wishing everyone a great Autumn. My first big (I mean BIG) craft show is this coming wknd. I'm scared to death and stressed beyond belief. If I can get through it then I know that the next 2 shows will be easy-peezy. I need to go write. I haven't sat down to finish my fair story or anything else that's come to mind due to getting ready for this show. But stuff is itching to be said!
I miss you all! Trying to scam a way to come back west before Farm Fair next July!

Well I haven't posted as much I usually do either! College is back in session and Nora is growing by leaps and bounds! It's amazing to watch! My garden is over with as well and I have started thinking about breaking ground for a bigger garden next year and starting to haul home some horse manure from Tala's stable each time I go out there. I am thinking of putting it in the garden, working it in, covering with cardboard then newspaper then mulch. By spring it should all be nice and broken down, especially if I start now. It should keep the worms happy at least! I am hoping that all gets hot enough to kill some weeds! I hate bind weed!

I also need to dig out some areas around the house that some idiot poured gravel into sometime in the past. What a waste of space! I don't need gravel up to the foundation! I want to plant sunflowers under my kitchen window next year!

(Taps the Mic...Testing one two three... is this thing on?)

Mavens, don't forget to check out the henhouse! We have a fall swap and a few other things that are relatively new. Also if you can't afford a sisterhood membership purchase or renewal, please let Dawn and/or I know. We do have the Maven Fund through paypal to help out with this.

Dawn- are you still making the Maven jewelry for purchase? Also donations are accepted via paypal. The address you need is mavens (at)awarmheart.com

Hello to all my Maven friends. My very small garden is almost over; except for the fall things.

We have had howling winds, hail and heavy rain all day today; not to mention the thunder and lightening. I am watching my daughters dog whom I adore but she is freaking out at the thunder along with my own dog! To make matter worse my husband and daughter are in Florida!

When they left the only thing I asked for was grapefruits, I am paying $1 to $1.25 here for grapefruits. I asked today about the grapefruits and he said he bought me 6, they were 3/1.oo! Six and he is coming back here with an empty mini-van!

I think I should throw those 6 gragefruits at him!

We are on our 5th day of rain and wind here in Ohio. I'm ready to build an Ark. I think I'm going to bake bread today as it's so cold and damp...a perfect baking kind of day.
Very soon we will be heading into holiday season and time, once again, will be limited. You are all in my heart everyday and I miss being here with you to chat about such & such, but we all have real, farmgirl lives to lead now don't we?
Wishing everyone a Happy Fall. I am getting ready for upcoming shows and festivities so I dont know when I'll be popping back in again. Take her easy!

Did someone mention Maven jewelry? Tell me more.
I haven't been posting much. I know "boo,...hiss" but things just seeme to take off sometimes and busy isn't even the word for it. But the merry go round has slowed a bit. Of course there are the holidays looming ahead so who knows.

Brooke: we have a Maven account that Alee set up for us. It is for those interested in becoming Mavens and are a little hard pressed for money OR it is for seed shopping, or donating. So far its just been collecting and we've not done much with it.

The Maven jewelry is a cha-cha style charm bracelet that I make. It usually has pewter charms like a sewing utensil, rooster, flower, watering can, etc etc on it. Your color choice of beads. I made one for MJ, and Rene, and a couple others. Make sure you ask them if they like them well enough. That money goes directly inot the Maven Account.

I've been a little under the weather. Not too bad. But enough to shy away from posting so much. June backed out of the craft show at the last minute due to unforseen circumstances so I did not get to go to my big show this year. I went to walk around today and it was amazing and so crowed! There is always next year.

My garden is officially over. Hubby and I pulled everything up and mowed her over. Time to plow it all under and see what happens next year. All I know is, that this 1/4 acre that I planted was way too much for me alone. I may do a CSA type thing next year. Need to think on it.

I still have seeds if anyone is interested in a grab bag. Please let me know. Miss and love you all!

Hey Dawn buddy - sorry you missed your big weekend but since you went there you kinda know what to expect next year. And I would certainly be interested in your grab bag of seeds for my next year. My secret sister just sent me some of her pumpkin seeds from her own beloved pumpkin patch this year, I just think that is so cool!

Regards,
Sue
