OK Dawn today I am not just lurking here.
Everyone, kudos should all go to Dawn for the total success of this past week-ends Spring Fling! She is the bestest hostess ever! Always making sure you are fed and warm and happy.
She started all the laughter. I swear I never laughed so much as this past week-end!
I had a great time; loved meeting my Maven sisters they are truly wonderful; always willing to lend a hand and an ear!
I can't say enough about this week-end.
Dawn Mc rocks and so does Ohio!
Hugs,
Sue Feely |

Alee, that must've been how everyone was feeling here this wknd cuz I sure got the princess treatment. Sue and Lora did dishes and cooked. Lora's son did chores and rounded up animals... man! I got spoiled real quick.

Well, basically with the tricks that the economy has been doing to us I faced the reality of: We lost one third of our 401K last year, we didn't have that much in there to begin with, a month ago my husband's hours at work went from 40/wk to 16/wk, of course with the assurance that if there was more service work, he would get it. Thankfully, there has been more than 16 hours a week in service work, but my husband has been working 7 days a week picking up odd jobs here and there. With his health tho, I don't see how he can continue that for any length of time. We need our health insurance, so as long as his company continues to provide that, he is going to hang in there. Did I mention that he has worked for these people for almost 15 years? Then there is the very real possibility that in 8 years, when I could have retired, that social security won't be there and that with my husband's health, I could become the main bread winner in our family....................therefore, I decided I more than likely won't be able to retire and if I had to work for the rest of my life, I needed to, A: Find something that was easier on my body. B: Find something I was good at and wouldn't hate going to every day. Last but not least, C. Something that would pay decent and have medical insurance. That's where school entered in the picture. So, I'm going into medical office administration. It fits all the criteria, plus it's weekday work so I can still have my farm life. At least that's the plan, you know how "the best laid plans of mice and men" can go though. At least I have a plan and that makes me feel better. I wish I could make a living selling veggies, etc from a piece of land, but I don't see how I can do that unless I have "townie" job to finance it.
BTW, Dawn, I have always wanted to learn how to belly dance, how did you know?

Rene'
I still cannot believe you got that burnt. I should've known better that the sun might be hotter here. Because Ohio is sooooo southern! lol....
Anyhoo, try soaking a brown lunch bag in vinegar and using it for compress. I dont know why it works but it does. Also yogurt. You'll smell like a smoothie but the lactic acid is good for your skin. You poor thing. I know for next year where to put all the vendors. Right where Sandy was!

AND a bunch of sunblock Rene! You Do look rather lobster-y in the pics and yeah, the yogurt feels really good! I'll have to try the vinegar and brown bag treatment next time I get burnt. Which likely won't be long =P I am coming to SF next year or bust. I think we have slowed down and gone out of crazy mode for lambing and kidding...Wow! what a big year! We have too many kids and lambs to count! life on the farm, as usual, is crazy!
So good to see so many of you and put faces to my sweet and saucy (Dawn!) sisters!

Dawn, After seeing the pics of the weekend and am even more sorry I missed it. Although the Pa wedding was wonderful, looks like if I had stayed in Ohio it would have been great too. Hopefully next time. Tammyb #541 |

Good morning Mavens :^)
It's a beautiful morning on the Palouse today! I'm going to finish my garden today, yea!
This year the lilacs took much longer to bloosom than they usually do. They are being their fabu self, enchanting the entire yard with their essence. Yesterday I went outside and gathered two huge bouquets of them and brought them into the house. They smell sooooooo divine. My daughter gave me two beautiful classical urn type vases one year for mother's day. One is huge, a pearlesent green, the other white, on a smaller scale. They are the perfect lilac vases. Before I had them I used the bottom of an old punch bowl, it had a huge chip out of the rim, but you couldn't see it for the lilacs. So today, there are no goodies to eat with our cup of tea, but, oh, we have the heady fragrance of lilacs. They are certainly one of life's simple pleasures. They only come once a year, enjoy them. :^)

The lilacs did take a long time to come out of winter this year, but they are beautiful for the wait. My Mother's favourite flower and scent was lilac and every time I catch them on the breeze, I think happy thoughts of her. I can smell them now from my neighbour's yard and I'm smiling. Thank you Teresa Sue, for the day's wonderful simple joy and how good it is!
