Just finished The Diva Runs Out of Thyme by Krista Davis and LOVED it! Cute, fun, quick read and there are lots of decorating tips and recipes woven through-out the story with a recipe section at the back of book! I highly recommend it.

Now I've started Michael Crichton, State of Fear. Glen Beck recommended it on his show one day. He claimed that it's pertinent to what's going on in our country today. Hmmmmm......this one might just make me mad. But we'll see!

I just finished Whistling in the Dark and it was so very good!! I loved the little girls who were the main characters. Before that, I read Prayers for Sale which was excellent too. Jenny, I have a few books to send your way this week. Thanks for sharing Prayers with me. Loved it!

I just read Cold Comfort Farm. What a funny book! If you like Jane Austen for her austere and satirical side, you'll like this. I think I've finally got my mil sussed out too...she thinks she's Celie from The Color Purple, but really she's Aunt Ada Doom! I love the line about how "people like Aunt Ada Doom will mess up your stamp collection, or whatever, and then spend the rest of their life atoning for it. But really you'd rather just have your stamp collection."

I'm also reading the Seamus Heaney translation of Beowulf. I found a battered copy in the road on the way to church Sunday.

Amie, look for the film of Cold Comfort Farm, starring Kate Beckinsale. It never fails to make my day better.

I am reading Forgiven by Shelley Shepard Gray, second in the series Sisters of the Heart. It is an Amish story and very good.

Hi gals: If you like to read try this book: "Little Heathens" by Mildred Armstrong Kalish. It's about hard times, high spirits on an Iowa farm during the great depression. It was one of the 10 best books of the year in the New York Times in 2007. It is a great book; funny, sad and rewarding. It is a must read! Enjoy.

Wow. Finished State of Fear by Michael Crichton. And...wow. I understand why Glen Beck recommended it now and I, too, recommend it. And it did kind of make me mad. Crichton really did his research on this one. In a nutshell, it's about global warming. The facts are staggering. The message is frightening. Yet, it's also hopeful. I don't want to give too much away in case anyone wants to read it. I'd hate to spoil it. But it is a very conversation worthy book.

Now...what shall I pick up next?

I am currently reading Julia Child's My Life in France. I love it. She is too funny. I have a couple of other books on my to read list. I also posted a bunch of pics on my blog of what I've been reading and perusing.

Bonnie~that book sounds good. I will have to see if my library has it.

My Bible!!
I am following a read-the-Bible in a year schedule available from the Navigators Ministry. It's great . . . and keeps me reading the Bible.

Right now, with summer and gardening, farmers market, another full-time job, etc., etc. . . . well, I don't find the time to read.

If I sit down with a book at night . . . well, I'm so pooped, I fall asleep??

However, I do manage to read my MJF magazines!!!!

I am reading the Bible again too. Last year I did the Charles Stanley year-long reading. That was good!! Now I am reading another one that you read a little each day and it gets explained with a daily devotional for women. I like reading it a little each day too. Keeps me in there.

Just finished East of Eden too. That was just so good. What a great book. I am thinking about Cannery Row next.

Too Many...I have the bad habit of starting a new book before finishing the old one .
I love book groups and am in a Jane Austin book group right now. We just finished Emma and are starting through Persuasion! I think Pride & Prejudice or Mansfield Park are my favorite.

Has anyone read "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" by Max Shulman? It's a great book for laughs.

I just got a large stack of musty old books from a friend. She just bought a house and it came with a whole book-lined room in the basement. Too bad about the smell, but I'm hoping to get it out. I hear that you can remove musty odor by putting the books in a sealed container (like a storage tub) with baking soda, kitty litter, or charcoal briquets.
