I need to figure out how to organize my sewing and craft stuff, and sometime soon. I have bags or half-boxes of stuff randomly stuffed into empty spots in the basement, but there's no rhyme or reason right now. So show me what you've got to give me ideas!

I need ideas too. I now have the space but getting it organized is another thing all together. I am in the process of making one lg Work table. There will be curtains underneath hiding my plastic tubs full of stuff. I am also making a movable table from a piece of countertop from ikea. I put it on legs so that I could move it. That is where I will have my sewing machine and serger. I need different areas for scrapbooking, picture framing, sewing, jewelry making. I have lots of stuff. I want one of those craft rooms you see in magazines all neat and tidy. In my dreams:P

I put a shoe hanger in my sewing room closet and then I put the plastic shoe boxes with the odds and ends in buttons, trims, ribbons what ever and set them in the holder.

Wow! When you do decide how you want to do it, please send us a pic. I am in a tight space and right now ALL of my sewing & crafting things are in boxes on the dining room bench. When I get into the new house I will a least have room for a sewing table or desk or something.

Heh, well, I'm sure I have the space to put together a decent nook down in the basement. With my mom's old 70's green sewing table to boot. It's just I don't know how to organize the threads and fabrics and needles and yarn and bobbins and all that. One ziploc full of ribbon here and a bag of embroidery thread and more ribbon and fabrics and the sewing machine in the dining room just doesn't quite cut it.

Photos of current haphazard ones are totally welcome, too. If nothing else, to make me feel better, and know what may or may not work...

So far, I havent had much luck with organization, the only thing that i can think of that I have kept with is putting my crochet, sewing, etc patterns in file folders. They are really easy to get to and with each folder labeled I know exactly whats in there. So, my supplies are a mess, but at least if I ever want something to do, Ill have patterns to imagine..lol

I like looking at craft areas, all so different and full of inspiration. I got some last years pic of my sewing area (which is in my workshop and my art room that is upstairs. I find all my stuff on the curb and paint it up, tables, crates even a neat cubby hole shelf that was just laying out for the landfill. It is perfect for my yarns. Hope these links show up, you might have to scroll down a little to see my sewing station

Lanna, I am with Bonne because showing you my craft area would more be a lesson in what not to do! I have 2 large desks in the corner of my front room and one of them is supposed to be for cutting fabric on and it's being taken over with fabric and wool for spinning! I have a sewing machine in a cabinet that I can't even get to because there is stuff piled on it!

Linda, Your pics are beautiful! How organized you are! If you ever make it to Arizona, please stop by and help, okay!

I am going to work on getting stuff organized after the 1st of the year! Maybe I will take before and after pics!

Hey, hey farmgirls hold your sewing needles, those were last years pictures , I will not show this years pic :(. Yep I got a mess to clean up. It will be my New Years job , maybe this New Years ;). But thanks for the comments. My art room does stay neat b/c I haven't played in it for a while :(. Messes means your being creative and working on those projects.

Jessie, thank you. hey I stopped by your blog, its a good one. You got your DH working side by side with you, how cool is that and a super nice gift he made for you.

Marian I love white cabinets/closets and you can't have to many baskets. Great way to store your stash.

Heather ok it looks like you got room for all of us, gather your sewing baskets farmgirls and load on the buss to Heathers. Very nice workroom. I love yellow.

Monica I need help now!!!

Lanna I know you would like to see some bad workroom picture but I just can't bring myself to send one :P

I love seeing everyones craft area. Heather yours is so nice. I don't know how to post here, so I posted a few pictures on my site. I also took a picture of that old trunk I cleaned out the other day. Now I have to go see the other girls craft areas.

Linda ~ I have 3 young kids (5yo, 2.5yo, 6mo). I guarantee anything you've got, even if it's an organized mess, is better than what I have. Or don't have.

They used wallpaper originally, to line those trunks, I believe, so you could scrape off the old and re-wallpaper it if you so desired.
The old stuff gives it a charm all itself though too.

Bonne~The pictures you shared are rooms to die for.

Heather~You have a nice room to work in.

Linda~I loved your rooms!!!

Right now I have a room in the basement but it ends up being a catch all. It is such a mess. No matter how many times I try to organize it it becomes a mess. I am going to try buying organizing cabinets. One at a time won't be so expensive. I need to do something to that room.

Wow Linda you wanna come organize my stuff. I love your studio. Your trash to treasure storage looks great. I love getting freebies and fixing them up. Right now I have to get a lot of them fixed up. They seemed to catch up to me. Ladies why don't we work on our craft spaces and report back here any progress we have made. This might motivate us to get organized. Even if we do not have a designated space find something that works in the space you have to keep the clutter to a minimum. I just got my craft room but it is all in stacks and piles so far. I want to get a wall shelf with cubbies to keep my stuff in so I can see it.
After Christmas I am going to crack down on this room. I want to have space to craft. Right now I am in the kitchen, dining room. Anywhere there is a surface.

Good Luck
Merry Christmas
Becky

Everyone's Welcome

On Mondays I'm holding a light lunch and Sewing group here at my house starting in Jan.
Still trying to work out all the details, should it be once a month or just every week.
You have to walk thru the nasty part of the basement to get to my nice sewing cave though...lol..

Here is one shot of my room. I wish it was this clean right now. But with the Christmas gift making frenzy right now, it is far from this clean :)
