Oh My! I feel I am naked without my lipstick and I wear jeans my apron & go barefoot a lot! I do keep myself together & have my hair cut regularly * a wash & go Bob style... I also wear funky colored readers!` HA! (which I constantly forget where i left them, so now I have several pair! I even try to coordinate them with what I am wearing.. Ya never know when the UPS man or postman will drive up.. My husband likes to see me this way and I often have to throw on a baseball cap when he says lets go to town!

I used to wear makeup until I grew up and realized that it just isn't worth it if you're only going to sweat it off! I'm with Aunt Jenny on the lipstick thing. I also have fairly full lips and never liked the attention lipstick gave my mouth and not so straight teeth. I usually have my hair in a braid or braids and a hat of some kind just to keep it out of my face. I can't stand having it touch my face. I used to have it really short back when I was going to school, raising a family and working part time. Now, it's pretty long and I'm keeping it that way because I need the hair to look more feminine with a ball cap.

I don't know how you gals can stay looking nice all day with chores. Weekdays don't count, because I have to dress up for work. I still don't bother with makeup because I guess I just figure that everybody has already seen me without and like me just fine anyway! Ha! On the weekends, I'll start out clean in a pair of jeans (more durable than a skirt) and cotton shirt. By the middle of the day, I'm usually pretty filthy, sweaty and often have torn my shirt somewhere. If I actually gussied up, I'd end up wasting time trying not to get dirty (or torn) and not get anything done. How do you stay looking nice after weeding, shoveling, moving rocks, playing with dogs, mowing, weed whacking, etc? Even shoveling snow, I get all sweaty!

I truly admire anyone who can look ready for a night out while doing chores all day. Other than MaryJane, I don't personally know anybody like that. MJ how do you do that?!

I'm a jeans & t-shirt gal, but I generally make sure the clothes and colors look good on my body. Makeup is maybe some tinted lip gloss or subtle lipstick, and I shape the unruly brows, but that's about it for the daily routine. My hair is super short - I get it cut at the barber shop - but I'm lucky that the style suits me. Wash & wear is all I have time for nowadays.

EDIT: computer crash -- I also like hoop earrings to soften the short haircut (sometimes the geese will make a grab for one, *lol*). I probably look better now than when the Spouse & I were first dating!

I love to look nice and one of the things I love is all the girly and pretty things in MJF magazine. I love to fix my hair and wear lipstick. I think I looked washed out without it. Now if only I could get rid of this acne. I'm almost 37 for goodness sakes.

First thing I do when I get up at 5:30a is turn the curling iron on, wash my face, apply moisturizer, blush, mascara and lipstick. I have a nice healthy light olive complexion and when I wear a little rose blush people always ask me where I get my tan from! And, it does make me feel better about myself, too. I take care of two boys for six or seven hours and then clean houses and I really don't want people to think I look tired! I also spritz a tiny bit of perfume on my wrists in the morning. Susan

This is a great topic Celeste and I can't wait until we meet on Monday!

I would have to say that I am surely am a lipstick farmgirl. I don't leave the house without undereye concealor, mascara, blush and lipstick or gloss on. Ususally I wear Burt's Bees shimmer lip gloss because it is tinted and my hubby hates lipstick. Of course he didn't tell me that for about 4 years. I can't even go camping without wearing all my "gear". I think it is because I was raised that way. My grandmother always says that a lady should look her best. Not for her man but for herself. Because if you think you look good you feel good about yourself in return. I think this is true for me.

Gosh ladies this has been an interesting thread. This reminds me of my Aunt Dot who always kept a tube of lipstick and a compact in the pocket of her apron. When the lipstick got wore down to just nothing she would give them to my sister and I to play with. We always looked forward to her tubes.I bought my daughter a tube of lipstick this summer (she only wore gloss or balm) and she told me it changed her life! It made her feel so grown up, I never realized but it does change my attitude when I am wearing make-up.

I am not a lipstick farmgirl. I religiously have a chapstick in my purse, pocket, in my nightstand and so forth but that's so my lips won't get chapped and dry. But colored lipstick to me is grimy feeling when I start sweating or getting dry mouth while outside working. For social events, I will put on some lipstick but that's when I'm town-ready. I find it more important for feeling feminine and "pretty" (not sure I fit into that category lipstick or not!) that keeping my skin moisturized and getting a shower and feeling presentable is more important than cosmetics. Clean clothes is another thing...even if I have on my farm clothes I try to have on a clean shirt and will change after getting messy. I work right alongside DH on the farm and he would rather I be useful than look flashy so he seems to appreciate me made up or natural. Last night we trimmed the rams feet in preparation for breeding time and as we sat and ate dinner, I kept smelling 'ram' and we both laughed...it's hard to even wash off! I did wash up before dinner but kept smelling it. Finally we both went and changed clothes!

One of the things I so love about this thread is this... It is like we are all "flowers" yelling out, "I'm a yellow rose, and "I'm a daisy" and I'm a...... and collectively it works, it creates this amazing portrait of a great farmgirls garden, we need the fancy ones, and we need the more plain ones, the variety of colors and sizes and shapes... So cool, I love just coming back and reading this thread it's my "happy place" :) (Smiling)

I'm not literally a lipstick gal, never have worn lipstick, but do like my lip balms. But I always make sure I have my makeup on before leaving the house. Actually I make sure I have my makeup on even if I don't leave the house! That's how my mom is, and I guess it rubbed off on me.

I usually don't wear nail polish unless I'm going out on the town or to a fancy function. I like to have on clean clothes, even if it's my jeans and t-shirt, but don't get me wrong...I have no problem getting down and dirty working out in the yard and love the feeling of the dirt under my nails.

Not a lipstick farmgirl. I use chapstick, no color. Once in a blue moon and for some special event I will put on a little eyeshadow and eye liner- but I don't use it daily. No foundation, no blush, no mascara... don't even own it anymore. Had the hair cut short and it was a pain, so now it's long and in a pony tail or clipped up. I do wear dresses and skirts and it's funny to see the reaction on some of the new guys' faces at the fire station when I pull off the bunker gear to reveal a skirt tucked inside. I quit fussing about 10 years ago when I joined the fire department, got rid of the acrylic nails and decided not to worry about it anymore. I think I look funny with makeup on now... I like to dress like a girl... but don't like the makeup part anymore.

I am definitely a lipstick farmgirl! I always wear concealer, lipstick, mascara, powder and eyeliner...I also color my hair! What I no longer do is paint my fingernails or toenails (what's the point?), shave my legs or cut my hair in a stylish way. I'm a ponytail or braid type of girl...but I still love my makeup!

And while we're on the subject...I don't wear sexy underwear either...never did, never will...comfortable cotton for me!!

I'm a lipstick girl! I gotta have my make up on. I will however get dirty, and sweaty, I don't care if my mascara runs, I always wear it. I don't polish my nails but must have my toenails done all summer, I am a bar foot girl. I hate shoes, and most of the time I'm bare foot or flip flops. Am dying for a comfortable pair of boots but am afraid I will hate being confined in them. Great topic! Inteesting stories!

I love this thread!! I needed it, too, lol! Really been letting myself go since I started my new jobs when I moved. I went from looking nice for an office job to working at a dog grooming clinic...dirty work! But it seems we all really agree on one thing -- the morning routine not only helps us look our best, but also makes us feel powered up for the day. I call it 'putting on my war paint'!! Can't face the world without my war paint.

I painted my nails last night for the first time since I moved three months ago...and I feel so feminine and pretty and just content! It's kind of a soft 80s pink, but next time I'm going for bright, 50s housewife red!

I'm starting to be more consistant with a touch of eyeliner and mascara again...I love lipstick, but I have a practically non-existant top lip, so I have to avoid dark colors or else my lips look too small and grumpy. Light colors are fun, and it adds confidence to my smile.

My boyfriend can't comprehend how putting on cosmetics enhances a girl's attitude towards life, lol! He prefers when I don't wear any makeup, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

I am all for LIPSTICK!! But when I am home... I tend to wear NO makeup, unless we are having a get together. Sometimes I do not feel like getting all "gussied up". But more times than not I am "fixed up" when I head out the door. I come from a line of Southern women who believe "A barn always looks better with a little red paint!" ha! In fact my NaNa sold AVON when I was little. She would always let me play with the lipstick samples. I was always told to "act like a lady"..lipstick and all, not matter what you are doing. But believe me, there are days that hubby comes home to a very plain faced wife.Poor man- ha!
I think real beauty shines from the inside out, no matter if you wear lipstick or not. If your soul shines, you will too.

I am really enjoying this forum and getting to know all of you. So glad I joined.

Oh, I definitely shave under my arms!! That would just be cruel to everyone around me if I didn't...but I don't bother with the legs...I don't spend alot of time looking at them so don't really care if anyone else does either...LOL

Kim, you crack me up! LOL.
After reading this I am definatly going to try a little lipstick. As a make up artist. I have a ton, but never wear it. I like the saying about the barn door!!
I remember visiting a "boyfriend" in Tennessee and there wasnt ONE woman who was out and about without a full face on! Those of you that do are amazing....

Lipstick is good for a girl! I like wearing makeup and although I'm not opposed to going out in public without it, I prefer to have it.

Just a tip for you...if it's a windy, dry day...don't wear sticky lipgloss and drag the manure in the pastures!! Been there, done that...yuck,yuck and double yuck!LOL

I am so NOT a lipstick farmgirl! I grew up in Vermont and makeup just wasn't a thing. I do wear eyeliner and eyeshadow now but that is it! I wore lipstick for my wedding and my sisters wedding and I can honestly say that is the only time I have. I teach so I have "professional" type clothes for work but the moment I walk through the door after school it is jeans and a t-shirt! I almost always wear a ponytail. I always have horse poop on my shoes and have dog hair and bits of hay stuck to me. But it is me. I too have wondered if it bothered my hubby but I don't think it does. I have always been this way and he "picked me" knowing this. I don't plan to change.

Yay for toenail polish! I agree, flip-flops or bare feet are the best (tho I do wear shoes for cleaning the geese/chicken pens - gotta avoid catching worms). I have tan lines from the straps on my feet. Try men's light hikers if you're looking for boots. They're a bit wider in the toebox, and I find they're much more comfortable.

Something about looking down, and seeing gaily painted toenails just makes me smile. WRT fingernails - I'm just too rough on my hands. Nail polish doesn't last more than a few days.

Some of these posts are so hysterical, my eyes are watering! It's also funny too because this very subject came up in my house. Since leaving the corporate spa world three years ago, I basically quit the whole makeup thing. I kept up colouring my hair just because I like it that way. Back in August, my daughters wanted to "teach" me the "right way" to look like a "girl for a change! (Sheesh!) We went to the drug store and picked out my new face, then they did the makeover. I had to admit, it looked pretty decent and I felt a bit fresher (?)
Side note: I found my lips!!! Someone else mentioned the thin top lip thing, and I though my lips were thinning because of aging. But they really aren't, the colour at the lip line is just faded (gotta love the amazing things age does to ya!) So, I found a perfect colour lip liner and Voila, instant lips.
I thought people would think I looked ridiculous though, considering they've rarely seen me like this. My friend summed it up perfectly for a FarmGirl topic. He said,

"You look fine. Just because you want to live on a farm, doesn't mean you have to look like a goat." (which as back~handed as it sounded, I'm trying to take as a compliment! LOL!)

I notice on the days I put myself together, I feel better about my self, feel more self-confident and seem to get more accomplished. My look is very simple . . . I am lucky enough to have finally (at 45!) grown into nice skin, so I only do foundation when needed. Mostly I just use a touch of blush on the cheekbone and across the brow bone, mascara on my top lashes only and a neutral, natural looking lipstick (nothing with sparkles! LOL!) When my hair was long, it was usually just a quick ponytail. After the "perm from hell" I got it chopped and am trying my best to re-grow it. I think long hair is far easier to keep looking nice than short (or at least for me!). I can usually have hair and make up done in less than 10 minutes! I used to do silk nails (just the short french manicured ones), but stopped due to the expense. I tried doing it myself, which was disasterous! I am still contemplating whether to do it again or not. They do hold up well and I wear gloves when I am "farmgirling." Just hate spending the $25.00 . . .

Hugs & blessings,

Brenda

That reminds...I have lost my pocket knife and I cannot find that sucker and it's driving me nuts--I too like that in my pocket...been relying on DH when I need twine cut or something.

I got tickled reading through more of these threads. Shaving...I have shaved every day since I got married (except when camping of course)and I could never go back to not shaving. I like putting on lotion to smooth skin. Love the barn comment!
