We are having really nasty weather today thanks to Ike, so I have been in the kitchen most of the day. I decided to try and make a few things from scratch that I don't usually do. So far I have made graham crackers (awesome!), wheat thin crackers (not so awesome), and have a big pot of bolognese sauce simmering on the stove.

So, has the weather kept anyone else in the kitchen today? It just really seemed like a good day for baking! I think I may make some muffins from some shredded squash I have thawing in the refrigerator as soon as I find a good recipe.

It could be a little cooler here today, we are having a heat wave of sorts which is somewhat unusual for this time of year. So what did I do yesterday? Picked the last flush of blueberries and today I have the oven on baking a double batch of blueberry/lemon muffins for the freezer!
I bought three 12lb tuna from the boat in the harbor on Friday, but they are frozen for now until the weather gets a little cooler and then I'll jar them. On the other hand it might be a good idea to have the doors and windows open while I bake them first!!

Today I made pumpkin bread- made the kitchen warm and smell heavenly. And the traditional Sunday crock pot veggie soup- this time with some leftover sausage. Not overly creative, but HAD to get some veggies cooking! Michgirl

I made cookies yesterday and we made our big crockpot of corn/potato chowder. Today we are just making spaghetti- kinda relaxing today.

I have a big old honkin roast beef cooking in the crock pot. It will be supper tonight with roasted red potatoes, carrots and peas and later in the week I will use the leftover beef in burritos..yum. I LOVE how the house smells right now.
I will be making some homemade bisquits to go with supper tonight.

Pumpkin bread sounds yummy!

I just made a bundt cake with butterfingers and am trying to paitently wait for it to cool SO is hubby.
Wanted to make cookies and muffins but I think my energy is lagging. I'm having hubby grill steaks and I'll bake a squash and potatoes. I'll leave the rest of the baking till tomorrow.

I'll be over! To everyone's house! I am getting so hungry! My DH and son went to a motorcycle race today, so I stayed home and worked on our grandson's birthday cake for tomorrow. (Some pictures on my blog) I think supper will be catch as catch can around here.

Well nothing but Sis cooked a squirrel today, yep it taste just like chicken. Also cooked up a couple of turkey legs, it tasted like ham. Its all upside down I know but we got full. The only cooking today I'm going to do is a pot of coffee at the camp and pop some popcorn in the firepit.

Oh have you all ever tried applesauce bread? Oh my is it good. I kind of went like this :P when my sis told me she was making applesauce bread, little did I know. I love pumpkin, squash breads but this applesause is some kind of yum good.

This cooler weather sure brings on some good cookings

caramel apple butter bublin now. Earlier today i baked a 7 lb (!!!) butternut squash, and made sour cream. not sure what's for dinner!

Today I chopped onions and put in the freezer. Cleaned and put 2 one gallon bags of bellpeppers in the freezer. Baked an apple crisp/crunch just to eat. Made tomato juice. Didn't have enough to fill the canner so I froze it. I have never froze tomato juice so we'll see. Picked tomatoes and jalapenos to work up tomorrow. To tired to fix dinner so I opened a couple of cans and put some tater tots in the oven. Now I am talking to you'all.

It's been hot here all day. I had a turkey in the freezer since around last Thanksgiving, so I invited kids and grandkids and a few extras to come help eat it. We had turkey, dressing, garlicky red potatoes, turnip green fresh from the garden, pinto beans, rolls and an apple crisp from our apple trees with vanilla ice cream of course. It was a great success and there were no leftovers except a little turkey. I fixed my husband a plate to take with him on the road, my daughters took some home and had some to take to a neighbor. I love big dinners with family. It makes everything taste so much better!
And now it rains.

It is really nice here so we are taking advantage of the sunshine to grill one last time - bbq spareribs and chicken thighs. Also garlic spuds and salad. I made cinnamon rolls earlier, was going to make cake but we have ice cream and I want to make some caramel pear butter tonight when the bees calm down - Maggie sounds like we were reading the same cookbook.
I must say it's making my mouth water reading what y'all are cooking up, I hope the ribs are done soon......

Chili Relleno's, whole grain cornbread, cucumber & tomato salad, salsa, sauteed zucchini.

I hope the kids stay out of the leftover chili relleno's so I can have one for breakfast. But cornbread and milk for breakfast is so good too.

Yesterday I made chinese dumplings from scratch and eggrolls. I also made 8 pairs of earrings to "sell" for our Relay for Life. I have a sweet pie pumpkin waiting to be bread or a pie. I'm thinking chilli and cornbread for tomorrow. (so I can crockpot it) and maybe pizza tonight cause I'm busy after school right up till supper. It's nippy, windy, rainy here. Perfect pot-o-something weather!

Whoo! I made MaryJanes Crackly Pear Cake today, boy is it ever the best! If you've never made it, the recipe is in the Ideabook. You'll get lots of bowls dirty making it, but it's worth it.

Yesterday I canned jars and jars of apple slices and applesauce (successfully this time). I juiced all my cherry plums (dd calls them cherums) for jelly and syrup and made 6 loaves of banana bread. One of our little grocery stores put bananas on sale for 10 cents/lb because they were a little overripe. Couldn't pass up a deal like that and bought all they had! I took one to work this morning and I'm trading another for a dozen jelly jars which I desperately need to can the cherum jelly.

Wow, the stuff everyone is making sounds so delicious! How did everything turn out? I got three quarts into the freezer from my spaghetti sauce, but after I put it in, I realized I never even tasted it!

Tonight we are having Kielbasa, Cabbage, and Potatoes (all thrown together in a big pot, kinda stew-ish) and homemade bread with peach butter. I am trying a new bread recipe, and am very excited to sample it. It smells so good right now!

i agree! all your meals sound delicious! i'm having leftovers from yesterday....
pork roast slow cooked in the crock pot, with some carrots, celery, onions and rosemary, salt and pepper thrown in. plus homeade mashed potatoes! it sure was yummy! there's nothing better than coming home to the wonderful smells eminating from a crock pot!

I love to crock pot cook when DH is in off the road It drives him crazy with the smells. I usually do some sort of game meat as it usually needs to cook longer and just add what I think will make it good. Then A pile of Mashed potatoes (we are in Idaho) and some kind of veg and the man is so happy.

Last night the charity I work for had a fundraising dinner. Not our usual routine to eat out on a Tuesday, so I'm glad to have homecooked tonight. We're having chicken baked in white wine, garlic and herbs, roasted squash, salad and fruit. Not fancy, just yummy. If DD dosen't eat all the chicken I'll make a pot pie later in the week. Her volleyball matches have started, so I feel like I'm feeding a longshoreman, she eats so much.

Maggie, I have never had caramel apple butter. Is it made the same way as regular apple butter? I am going to the orchard this weekend to get apples. We usually can apple pie filling, applesauce and apple butter. My 4 kids and husband all have an extra sweet tooth and caramel apple butter sounds wonderful.
